The Trials HD Official Thread

It saddens me that I watch other peoples replays and still having major trouble getting over this section of tires (Technique track / Hard)

Anybody have any tips on how to actually get past this thing?

Well I bought it, I really like this game and had a decent amount of people on my friends list buying it.

I like it and man some of the levels are so frustrating but it feels so good to come back and beat them.

I have not played this since I ran out of time in Inferno II. Man fuck that level! :lol

The worst is when I finally landed on that damn platform after the 2 ramps about half way through to the big ramp, and instead of pressing B i fucking pressed back. :lol (I may have been laughing but I was crying on the inside.)

It's quite easy if you're willing to take it slow. Start in normal position and using very slight acceleration, roll up the bottom part of the pipe going up. When your bike is at about a 45 degree angle to the pipe, switch to leaning forward and continue slow acceleration until your bike is flat against the pipe. With your bike flat against the pipe keep leaning towards it and you can use slow (very, very slow) acceleration all the way up to the top of it.

It's not the best way (not even close), but it will get you past it quite easily.

goddam I have done this so many times without thinking it's not even funny.

Oh man, I've done this a bunch of times too. It's the only way to actually stop playing actually, b/c I get so mad and frustrated I laugh and put the controller down. Then I pick it up again usually though. :lol

I've done the same thing, I wish there was a way to change the mapping because pressing restart button when I finally get past any given obstacle kills me!

They really need to change this, so that you have to HOLD select, or even have a "Are you sure?" screen.

No way, that would be like the Skate 2 fiasco all over again with the "are you sure screen". Just being able to press it quick is part of the addictiveness!!

Anyway, just finished Inferno II!!!!!!! Shit yeah, that was fuckin' awesome! The more you practice each individual part, breaking the track into pieces, the faster you get better at it. After multiple full time outs, I finished it in 10:55.616, 106 faults. I didn't even come close to that before. Platinum times are just ridiculous though.....although I thought the extreme levels were impossible at one time too, so who knows.

I disagree. I love how quickly I can restart. I wish just they would implement quick restart in tournaments. It's a pain having to quit out and reselect everything if you crash once.

They should just allow us to change restart to something like X. Or R3 - that'd really have to be intentional.

Do you push the back button accidentally? I don't think I've ever done that before. It's as out of the way as a button can be.

Just once or twice after probably 10 hours of play. I've seen a lot of people mention it though. If it happens at the end of an extreme level...I can only imagine.

When you've been working on beating leaderboard times on the easier levels it becomes reflex.

That would be true no matter what button it's mapped to. I hate the "Are you sure?" crap that rears its head in every game, so I'm quite pleased that Trials doesn't have such nonsense.

Had no idea about this game till Rebel FM, looks amazing! This 500 tries bullshit seems like a pile of crap, though.
If you're hitting 500 faults, you need to practice a lot more before attempting the level you're trying.

At first I thought the time limit/500 tries limit was stupid as well, but it is just good game design. At that point you get stuck in a rut, and starting over fresh is usually what will get you through the part you are stuck on.

When you're going for the 0 fault medals and you continue to press restart rather than load last checkpoint after a while it becomes habit to press restart when it's not necessary. It's especially frustrating when you finally got past that seemingly impossible obstacle and hit the checkpoint and crash, hitting restart rather than B.

when you complete a extreme track I think. just get to the finish

Yep that did it Thanks. (surprisingly I already had platinum times on all but 2 beginner tracks).

For now I'm trying to get Gold on all Hard tracks (need 3 more).

Just made my first run through King of the Hill and was amazed how hard it was to make it over the first stack of crates lol.. but then I tried using the Phoenix Evo and it made things easier.

Ya, I've been on the last level, close to the end, and I pressed select accidentally because I was so used to it on the easier levels. B should be instant, but you should have to hold select.

Extreme Track: Goin' Up!

Seriously? I haven't got past these boxes once yet lol.
I think Satan assembled that level and sometimes sits in that coffin sized box laughing at me as i slam into that box doing a wheelie over and over again ... then once in a while he'll let me pop up onto it where an invisible banana peel sits to make me flip over and land on my ass... then he laughs harder

Technique took 20 minutes and over 230 faults. This game is a lot fun to play 'pass-the-controller' with friends.
"Fuck it, man. That shit is impossible. Your turn!"

Wait 'til you get to the next checkpoint, that's where I got stuck last time. After a shower I'll try again.

Exactly what I thought...

More like Evil Knievel on the GBC, pretty much the same thing only there was a button to change direction. Vid.

After playing the shit out of that years ago seeing Trails HD at e3 was awesome.

I've completed all of the hard levels now and the direction the game has taken is leaving me slightly disappointed. On medium I enjoyed how it was very challenging to get a gold, but it was still a thrill as the stunts weren't so ridiculously hard I had to retry them 20 times before getting them right. I could go fast and fly over the jumps for the most part, with the occasional slow obstacle that I had to judge exactly right.

I'll admit it's satisfying when I complete these harder levels, but the main hook of the game for me was getting gold on every level. That element is completely gone now. :(

well, hard and extreme levels, are what real trial biking is about, the rest are flowing easy jumpy jumpy tracks,

I realise that. I'm not saying the game is bad because of it - I understand exactly why the later levels are designed how they are - I simply don't get nearly as much enjoyment out of them as I did with the first three difficulty levels, is all.

Also you get better the more you play so...

This is true, but the skills I've acquired so far are not nearly enough to perform at a top level with the obstacles that the last few hard levels threw infront of me.

I understand that the problem is totally down to the limitation of my own skills, which is quite depressing. :lol I got a gold on the first hard level which gave me hope, then it all went downhill... :(

God damn, I can not get past the first part on 'King of the Hill' (last Hard level)... My back wheel always gets caught in that gap between the boxes. Grr.

Exactly.

It's not that the game is unfair, it's just that there's a very severe difficulty spike at the third level of hard, and a second one at the last level of hard. I feel like some of the techniques you need should have been gradually introduced. The first time I played Technique, I was like "No f-ing way." The second time, it wasn't so bad (got a silver). But it's just too much all at once.

And the time and fault limits are totally unnecessary and cruel. Let players judge when they've had enough.

Yeah, I've tried it no less than 30 times and still can't do it. :(

What's worse is when you actually get over it but aren't sure how you did it... (Just like that cement column in the pic at the top of the page)

Yeah, fuck that box. That's my current roadblock at the moment. I just can't seem to get my rear wheel on top of it. The rest of the level leading up to that part isn't a cakewalk either, so by the time I get there I feel spent.

I realize it's a design choice and not necessarily a flaw with the game, but I really dislike how long some of the levels are. Especially the more difficult ones. It sucks to accomplish so much only to be stymied by a particularly difficult part and then have to do it all over again. It also makes the game harder to enjoy in small doses. If I don't have that much time to play, I don't want to invest the time in an unbeaten level only to be forced to abandon my efforts.

had a good run.

This game is fantastic btw, never played any of the other Trialseses but was a big Across/Elastomania fan of course. hehe
