The Trials HD Official Thread

Picked this up along with the the first DLC pack on Black Friday. Got golds on the first two
difficulties, but Medium seemed to be a pretty steep increase in difficulty. Got bronzes in all of those, and am currently weeping at the thought of trying to get through these hard courses without dozens upon dozens of faults.

I'll be lucky to even get bronzes on the extreme difficulty at this point : (

the true genius of this game starts revealing itself to you when you accomplish the things that once seemed impossible to you.

Yup. I remember when I couldn't beat Inferno 2, now I'm ranked 150 on it, and I'm ranked 3rd on a track.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT!!!

I am ranked 1st place for Mystical Journey :O:O:O:O I never thought I would be ranked 1 on a track, this is fucking crazy. Holy shit. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Awesome DLC...just fucking awesome. Really, though, I'm ready for a major addition or sequel that allows for multiplayer online and/or local. I'm thinking of how insanely fun multiplayer relay races would be in Trials as teams of players of varying skillsets and levels work out which leg of a course they will run prior to the race's start and the tense baton-passing that follows.

More like you'll be lucky to even finish the Extreme tracks. I still haven't beaten a single one.

I don't think 1 and 3 are very difficult (beat them on my first try, admittedly with faults in the hundreds), but I just can't do Goin' Up and Inferno II :O

FUCK YES I cleared Goin' Up and Inferno II :D
All tracks from the original game... cleared! I'm so proud :D It's amazing how you can really see yourself getting better and better, it's almost like Street Fighter IV or something. Things that seemed impossible (like hill climbing, figured out you have to adjust your position in the air and not when touching the ground) are now a cakewalk.

I wish they had a central level database instead of having to be friends with people. It kills the map community. :(

I love this game, though.

Still working on gold medals on the medium tracks on this DLC

Got my ranking into the 7k range. (without DLC it's somewhere around 19k)

Probably the highest I'll ever be ranked in any game :lol

Just finished up my 300/300 achievement score last night.

This DLC is amazing. I actually think it would have been better to roll these new maps into Trials HD 2, as it would have secured more sales than a DLC pack ever could.

Some of the maps are real gems in this pack. Most of the user created stuff feels sub-par compared to the developer's maps. One big exception is the map where you kick the soccer ball at the end. I don't recall the name, but that map was amazing, fun to play, and had a good look to it.

How can you tell which tracks are user ones?

I had the most trouble with the big ramp at the end, for some reason. Nearly 20 minutes on that bit alone!

The problem I had was the single plank jump right near the big ramp and the last jump in the level. Very annoying.

Those 2 parts took me about 20 minutes

Wow going back to the Hard maps after clearing the Extreme ones is :lol I can't believe these would've given me trouble only a few days ago...

edit: well except the one with the fucking air vent at the beginning... it's worse than most extreme jumps damn it >_<

I love that level. Shiny things. Tough platinum, but feels great when you nail it.

Someone beat me yesterday, but then I beta that guy again :lol :D :D

I was rounding up the hard DLC and I went back to the shiny vent one from DLC#1 and I accidentally discovered that when using the 2nd bike if you simply hold RT from the start the rider will bump into the vent, bounce back, and boost forward right onto the vent allowing you to make it to the first checkpoint :o After that the rest of the stage was pretty normal. After a year of that jump dominating me, it was nice to finally finish up all the hard levels. The DLC#2 hard levels weren't too bad, although the flight one and laser robo one were kind of lame, not hard, just lame. I thought Mystical Journey was the best user level of the easy -> hard group.

So with every level from beginner through hard original game -> dlc#2 beaten, I attempted to go back and try extreme again where I had left off 2 years ago when the game first came out.

I was on the 2nd track, "going up" and it was definitely HARD but I kept progressing. Until I got to this spot:

trialshd-1.jpg

I got to that spot with about 100 faults and 10 mins in. I spent 400 tries and 20 mins trying to get over that stupid first crate to no avail. I try to bunny hop while on the incline to land on it but I can't lift the back wheel off the ground high enough to go onto it. I try going slow and walking the thing up, but I just can't pull it off that way. Everything I try doesn't work. Arghh. And thus ends my extreme attempt #2.

What's funny (well funny in a it's 3am and I'm too tired and worn out to rage way) is that if you go back a few pages to the original release 2 years ago you'll find another picture by me of this exact same checkpoint because I realized while playing that the reason I never passed this level and continued onto the rest of the extreme tracks is because 2 years ago I couldn't beat this checkpoint either :\ Ughh.

Still an amazingly fun game and one of my favorites this gen. No other game can keep me playing until 3am when I should be studying for finals. Between easy -> hard there are loads and loads are fair and fun tracks. But extreme is just beyond me. Will work on getting golds for the earlier levels and then I'll go back to waiting for dlc #3 next year.

Don't give up. Took me 2 days to get that jump down. Try this: get your front wheel up in the air so that it's just above the point where it'll go over the box. Now quickly lean your driver forward so that when you land on the box with the front wheel, the wheel and your bike will be on it's way down (towards the box) so to speak. Your back wheel will now bounce hiiiiigh up in the air, making you slide backwards amd probably fall down again. Herein lies the trick. When you're approaching the box and pressing forward to make the front wheel go down towards the box, IMMEDIATELY start holding back. This will make it so that when your back wheel bounces up high into the air from the impact, you'll already be creating an opposing force by leaning back. Your back wheel won't go as far up, and if you're lucky, the front wheel will slide forward a bit and your back wheel will land on the box. From there, you simply have to be very careful to make sure you stay on the box and not fall back down. Good luck! Took me 4-5 days of playing 2-4 hours every day before I could finish all the Extreme tracks.

thats a notorious spot. one of the hardest obstacles in the game for sure. very hard to get consistent with.

it will come to you though.

according to a Redlynx dev at their forum the game sold over 30k when it was on sale last week, and is the highest selling XBLA game behind Castle Crashers (CC obviously sold way too well. yuk).

unreal, it's a game that deserves success.

I'm almost through all the hard levels in the DLC, I have surprisingly little time to play this unfortunately :/

I'm so glad (and frankly shocked) that this sold so well, it deserves all it it's success.

Gotta pick up the Big Thrill pack soon.

Really? You don't remember the craze over Elastomania? Everybody and their mother played that. Seems like people in general love games like this.

been playing a lot the last few days. going back and getting 0 faults on all DLC courses. lots of stuff to improve on in the last pack which i didnt play much of. this new pack is so good though. many really great courses.

got my Donkey Business achievement yesterday too. not too hard, took me a little longer than it should have though.

the game rules.

I just failed at that part by using up all my faults. The entire level to the point was a pain in the ass.

it gets easier. if you play a bunch of other tracks and come back to it, you'll be shocked at how youve improved. keep at it!

I asked this on another forum and nobody was quite sure so GAF, help!

If I set times offline, when I connect to LIVE in a month will my online leaderboards all be updated with my best times, or would I be wasting my time? It seems silly that they wouldn't but the game implies so, and other games have this problem. So, anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

EDIT: Nobody in the world knows? :(

When you're offline and start a track you get the following warning:

"Any scores achieved while offline cannot be saved to Xbox LIVE leaderboards. Consider reconnecting to Xbox LIVE."

I'm pretty sure this is to prevent leaderboard cheating.

This jump is ruining my day :(

DAa4z.jpg

I get what I should be doing... But I just cannot seem to do it.

Any tips on how to bunny hop? I usually just lean forward (before moving) and then lean back+gas and then lean forward again in the air.

edit: this guy must be part wizard or something.

....edit:
I am being trolled by this level... This god dam hill

Fuck that jump. Fuck it in the ass!

Took me about 300 attempts. There's another bullshit jump right before the end of that level too.

I've beaten all of the extreme tracks with less than 10 faults and that level had me ripping my hair out.

So yesterday I played some Trials with a friend. We play alot of Trials, but I don't consider me being spectacular good. That night however, I kicked so much ass I just couldn't believe it. I finished 4 extreme tracks and got a zilver medal in all of them (including Going Up, Inferno II and the last one of the latest expansion). Even the part where Bebpo has so much trouble, I did in like 3 tries. The weird part is, it used to take me around a 200 tries. Later on, I finished Flightschool with a gold medal and got that achievement for entering the secret base of something.

We played on a smaller screen that night with a wired controller. Could that have something to do with it... Too bad life continues, or I would still be playing :lol

Hell yeah, Trials rocks!

Damn it, only one track left to platinum (the frustrating pilgrimage) and I just came up short by a quarter of a second. I am the fastest failure in the world.

I really like this game. The "feel", and the presentation, they are both done so well. However, it kicks my ass so badly that I doubt I'll ever see more than a fraction of the game. I wish the learning curve was about half as steep. At least I'd get to play longer before hitting the I-do-nothing-but-fail stage. (I think I've golded most of the Easy tracks, medaled most of the Medium tracks, but with a lot of Bronzes, and I've only gotten through a few of the Hards.)

I get the feeling I may be Playing It Wrong(tm), however. Judging by the discussion of "faults" here in this thread, I'm thinking that some of you are actually continuing in the middle of tracks, after a crash? See, I don't do that, ever. If I can't do a track start to finish, I consider that track to be un-finish-able, because, you know, it is. Or isn't. Whatever.

I will use the restart-at-checkpoint feature to practice a tricky spot, but I always start at the beginning when I'm ready to try a run "for real".

Is that the way the rest of you are approaching things?

In a related question, what method would you recommend I use to increase my skill? I'd really like to play more of this game, and it annoys me that I can't.

First time, I try to make it through.

Once I have the bronze, I try for silver.

Once I have the silver, I go for gold.

Once I have gold, I try to best my friends' times.

Holy shit. I just finished the extreme track set. This is a fucking milestone for me. I'm not someone who is accustomed or enjoys hard/demanding games, so even beating that last set on bronze feels like the accomplishment of the year, gaming-wise.

I'm so happy right now. :')

Man I love this game. I've put at least 150-175 hours into it. I'm in the top 5 % on just about every track.

Love it.

More DLC please.

Where are those jumps, I take it it's one of the final tournaments, or maybe DLC? I'm just asking because I don't want to jump into them, lol. The extreme tracks tried my patience and capacity to withstand abuse to limits even I wasn't aware of.

Not even close. I'd tire of the game within minutes if I did that. I just try to make it through the stages before failing 500 times or whatever the limit is.
