The Unofficial Toki Tori Appreciation Thread

Finished hard 1 on bubble world, only have hard 2 and hard 6 left.

Has anybody finished all the levels yet? Do you get any reward or anything?

Wait, so how does the message board play into this?
The game sends you postcards as you progress through the main quest, I think there was 10 total. Kind of a stupid feature if you ask me.

WHY AREN'T MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS GAME?!?! :( :(

I just finished Bubble World Hard 6, and I have to say this may be close to passing Lemmings as the best puzzle game ever. The amount of intricacy needed to solve some of the later levels is just mind-blowing, and when you finally solve a level that you've been stuck on for ages its just such an awesome feeling.

Now I just need to finish Bubble World Hard 2 and I'm all done! Although the PR says that there are over 70 levels to complete and by my count there's only 69, so maybe beating every level unlocks some more? Although I just realized that there are training levels as well, so I guess the PR counted those to the total.

Thanks. Looks very...strange.
See! See! I'm not crazy.
If this were two days ago, I would have said that I don't know how anyone could find Toki Tori to look strange, especially if you see it in motion. But this is not two days ago, and two days ago had brought with it a thread about the animation in the GBA Fire Emblems being not only something other than stupendous, but actually "terrible," so I suppose that not much seems peculiar to me anymore. And yeah, I can at least understand not really appreciating all the hybrid art styles being deployed in Toki Tori. There's no particular consistency, but I like it anyway. :D

Bubble Barrage Hard 2 done, 5 and 6 left. Help please.

Solution for Hard 2 is:

Place a block teetering over the right edge of the small pit. Hop on it and place a block hanging over that block's left edge. Float up to the first egg and let the fish swim into the little ditch you just made (Don't freeze yet). Float to the top of your second block and make a bridge to the right (Half of it should be above the fish). Now freeze the fish and you'll have steps up to the second block. Place a block hanging over its left edge, float on top of that and place a block on its right edge. Float over and refill air, then go to the second block, teleport up to the fourth, build a bridge left, stand on it and float up to the last egg.

Hints for level 5 and 6 (trying to be as vague as possible):

Level 5 -
You need to figure out a way to reach the floating platforms near the start of the level so that you can reach the top of the stairs, since the placement of one of the bricks makes it impossible to climb them from the bottom as is. (By reaching them from the top, you can clear a path that will allow you to traverse the entire level.) While it isn't too difficult to figure out how to reach the floating platforms, you need to be as economical as possible in doing so because you will need extra bridges and blocks in a couple of other locations, namely crossing the spikes in the lower right corner and also reaching the egg on the isolated platform in the center of the level (to the right of the stairs that lead up to the fish).

Level 6 -
Obviously you have to save the eggs on the left half of the screen for the end, since you'll never be able to escape from the lower left corner of the level. So the question becomes how you should go about collecting the eggs on the right side. There are two possibilities, either you drop off the ledge and work your way back up to the top right corner, or you teleport down from the top right corner and work your way around to the ledge. While the latter solution may seem less likely, the former solution is in fact impossible since you can't reach the area underneath the top right part without using your bubbles, so you won't be able to teleport back up. So the difficult part becomes trying to visualize how you can climb up the ledge. You obviously won't make it up using only your bubbles, so try figuring out a way up using some of the other tools at your disposal. Once you get over to the left side the level becomes pretty trivial. You should have one block remaining when you get there, but you can actually complete the entire left side using only the brick switchers and bubble.

I actually think I'm coming around, Toki Tori is pretty damn sweet, and pretty damn hard, too! After you complete a world, 7 new "HARD" levels appear for that world. And they really are hard. I'm on Level 6 of Forest Falls' HARD levels, and it's a damn bitch. Has anyone beaten it?

You need to
freeze all four enemies as they are falling into the pit

Argh. I can't get Forest Falls HARD 7... anyone willing to give vague hints about it?
Particularly the use of the freeze gun. I'm pretty sure I got where the other two need to be used (or maybe i'm pigeonholing myself thatway) but... the Freezegun has totally stumped me.

If you knew where you needed to use the brick then you shouldn't have trouble figuring out where to use the freeze gun. The tricky part of the level is actually using the freeze gun, not figuring out where to use it.

Muchas gracias! Helped me out a lot :P

This game is great! It really is. :D

This and Dr. Mario are the best 2 values for any wiiware game out there so far.

Well worth the money!

I absolutely love it. (loved the GBC version too).
Great puzzles, relaxing to play, but still relatively challenging, great catchy music (tho it seems to be mixed really loud compared to every other game which is annoying), visually pleasing (at least to me).
I can't give this enough praise really.

Just bought this game last night and put 5 1/2 hours into it. Much better than both LostWinds and MLaaK (my previous WiiWare purchases). Toki Tori really reminds me of Lolo from a side view. Great difficulty curve, and with ~70 levels, many of them quite hard, the value is excellent too. So far I'd put it right behind Paper Mario (which I hadn't played before) in my most worthwhile Wii downloads. I highly recommend it.

If anyone is looking for some cheap Wii points, I found a couple 2000 point cards on clearance at WalMart for $10. They were bundled with a useless Classic controller cover.

Been playing it on and off. Clearing a couple of puzzles here and there. Very nice pickup and play for a while game.

It's great when a puzzle your stuck on sticks with you during the day and you work it out while at work. :D

If you're like me you may spend an hour on a single level. And I'm just in the second world. It's pretty damned satisfying figuring the puzzles out. I'm determined not to look up the solutions.

Finally caved into GAF-hype and bought this little bugger. Great game, high level of polish, and I, for one, appreciate the stupid little letters Toki Tori sends me. Also, the music is really great. This and Lost Winds are the gems of the service for me.

On a bad note, I only have 33 blocks left on my Wii.

Good god this game is fucking amazing.

And now I really, really want a Lolo WiiWare game.

I was shocked to find that people had anything negative to say about them. O:

They're a cute little addition. Unnecessary? Sure. But so are the pretty graphics. It could be a black and white game with circles and squares and triangles representing all the objects and the gameplay would remain the same.

(Besides, it's fun to send those pictures to other people like "nyah nyah I'm better than you!")

This game makes me feel like an idiot. To me, it's much, much harder than Zack and Wiki, for a comparison. It's a blast though, and having the ability to skip a single level is nice, gives me two levels at a time to jump back and forth between if I get tired of focusing on a single stage.

Easily. There's more wiggle room in Z&W, where as, once you reach a certain point, Toki Tori feels like you're just trying your darndest to find the developers ONE and ONLY solution to a ridiculously difficult puzzle. It kind of kills the 2 player "help me out" appeal when both of you are stumped and staring at the same puzzle for an hour. I may sound critical, but this is just tough love.

Also, this game really makes me want Portal for WiiWare. They could totally do it, forgoing the story and just making a sweet puzzle game. But these are just my pipe dreams.
