The utter insanity that is the season pass.

When I see a game offering a season pass all I see is, "Wait for the GOTY edition/full collection!" I find them to be, IMO, one of the biggest problems with modern gaming.

Dark Souls 2 did a good job of it because:

1) Dark Souls 2 is a game you might actually want to still play after six weeks.

2) They didn't even reveal the season pass until weeks after the game came out.

With most blockbuster games these days most players would probably have already traded the game in by that point since everything's so front-loaded these days.

I paid $80 for Turok on N64 at release. Zelda was $70 and Donkey Kong Country was $90 because it required a special RAM upgrade. This was back when $20 could fill your gas tank with enough left to buy dinner. I have no problem paying extra for quality.

Of hundreds of games, the only passes I've bought have been Borderlands 2, Battlefield 4, and Skate 3. Skate was decent, but the others each took a year to publish all the DLC content, and have soured me on pre-purchasing DLC ever again. Battlefield 4 was so bad I don't even pre-order or buy games at release anymore.

So I'm looking at the new deals on EU PSN this week and I see the Evil Within season pass 40% off. The thing is that of the 3 DLC missions that the season pass includes NONE HAVE BEEN RELEASED. Essentially to my eyes this is a huge middle finger to anyone who bought the damn thing for full price and has yet to receive any of the content. 8€ off is nothing to sneeze at, you could buy Suikoden 2 and a burger for that or something.

While this is the worst case scenario I feel like nowdays the season passes get huge discounts all the time after like 1 piece of DLC has been released. You don't actually save a damn thing for buying it ASAP.

The thread has no point but I'd just like to remind you to not support this shit unless you are like a diehard fan :(.

Yup same deal with a lot of the Telltale season passes in the past. I remember buying the first ep and then the pass on 360 and ever single time there would be a sale on the season pass before the second episode was released >_<

Season passes always go on sale before all the content comes out so it's best to tell everyone to wait for the first sale!

In the end how does it all add up though ?. With season passes being a bit of a gamble, your going to get some great deals and some not so great deals. Had you saved money on the stuff that turned out crap(if you had waited and known), could you of bought the DLC's individually that turned out good at full price with cash left over ?

"In the end" would require waiting over a year to get the DLC on sale or all bundled up as part of a GOTY edition. I'm fine with paying for a season pass because surprisingly I want to play the new content when it comes out. You guys bitching about season passes only ever look at it from one perspective with money being the only factor, you know maybe I just want to play the new DLC when it comes out instead of waiting half a year to save £10.

Driveclub Season Pass is the GOAT. Worth every penny, everything telegraphed well in advance so you knew what you were getting and when before it was even for sale.

It's more than just $10. By the time all the DLC comes out, the game itself is usually cheaper too. I'd rather wait and get the GOTY version for under $20. To me it's not worth spending an extra $60 ($60 Original price+$20 Season Pass-$20 Final price) for "early access" except for very very few games.

It's like you overlooked the whole point I was making about time being a factor. Perhaps I don't want to wait a year to play a game I want to play now? Amazingly some people have no issue spending their money you know?
