The Virtues of Ancient Rome

It's crazy how old Rome is, then I started looking up the oldest cities in the world. Jericho was believed to be formed at least around 9000-10,000 BC. Absolutely crazy to think about people being in that area for over 11,000 to 12,000 years!

Graham Hancock rightly points out many structures credited in the Roman empire to being built by Romans were actually built upon older structures, so the city itself probably goes back even further.

I thought Damascus was the oldest continually occupied city. But I tried to look it up and now I don't know

And modern human race is 200-300K years old - 95% of that time we were just hunter - gatherers, or maybe not?

Nothing build 100K years ago would still be standing now, there could have been MULTIPLE advanced human civilizations that we have no idea about.

The concept of virtue is pretty interesting. I have occasionally wondered what the exact reason is I don't like some people, and it usually boils down to humility. Even while achieving the greatest feats and recognition, there's something powerful about putting yourself down to everyone else like it never happened.
Humility isn't putting yourself down about what you've accomplished. Humility and humble bragging arent the same thing.

Very interesting video, and honestly reflects a lot of my thoughts on civilization and the past. I've got a feeling we've been running this thing back to back before we destroy ourselves back to the stone age for awhile now 😂

1. You're quoting me from two years ago
2. I didn't necessarily mean performing the act of putting yourself down, but being in that state as though the accomplishments never happened. Staying grounded. And yes, humility fits
The state or character of being humble; freedom from pride and arrogance; lowliness of mind; a low estimate of one's self; self-abasement.

1. I hadn't noticed this thread was 2 years old and in your definition of humility I don't see it saying anything about "being in a state as though accomplisments never happened". I being the most humble person I know can tell youve got a hate boner for humility

Self abasement goes beyond humility it's humiliation.

Ah the history of their currency is interesting and happened repeatedly through civilizations afterwards, including modern day.

The reason why the Eastern Empire(Byzantine) lasted so much longer was due to them using sound money that wasn't debased. Of course after a long time they couldn't resist the allure of debasing their currency which is what led to its downfall.
