The VR-PC Game thread

Understandable and still very very disappointing. Playing with a controller is fine and VR still adds a lot imo but damn if I dont find myself really debating or even passing on games that don't have some sort of roomscale and motion controls.

Rift Touch controllers for devs were sent out a couple of weeks ago. They look near final so hopefully the ball rolls quickly.

Oh, I thought it was a Rift exclusive, good to know.

How long is Vanishing and is it a worthwhile experience for $30?

I hear good stuff about the game itself, and mixed stuff about the VR implementation specifically that there's only traditional movement and no tracked controller support so that should be kept in mind.

Im immune to motion sickness, so traditional movement is fine for me. Sucks that it doesnt support motion controls though.

Yeah, That is what Im hoping. I want to see more games shift to at least standing with motions controls. It just adds so much more than I ever expected.

This is exactly what I was saying in the other VR thread. Game developers will not utilize the Vive exclusive features (room scale, motion controls) because they need to develop for the lowest common denominator. What a shame.
I think VR is in a unique position where the lowest common denominator will rise pretty quickly - or more quickly than for other types of hardware release, at least. The impact of motion controls in particular can't be overstated, and given that all the high-end VR platforms will have their own dedicated motion controllers before the end of the year (following the release of Oculus Touch, PS Move for PSVR, and now Google's Daydream will have a motion controller too), I think most devs will move to make those the default control option in short order. That's certainly where our thinking is at, at least.

FWIW, we just released a second BTS video for The Assembly, this time focusing on the game's visuals and 3D audio, and featuring some areas of the game we haven't shown before.

Software drives the hardware, no one will buy hardware for the sake of hardware. Software needs to sell which means maximizing the available audience. VR developers are already targeting a very small subset of pc gamers who are already a small subset of gamers in general. I owned the HTC VIVE for about 2 weeks and sold it yesterday. Only when a hardware feature is common among all VR products will the majority of developers consider it if they want to make money. And until that happens, I don't think we'll be seeing many serious efforts in developing "meaty" games for the Vive that will take advanatage of its features. Hopefully you are right and we will have a unified control method for all the products in the near future.

I figured this topic is better for what I'm looking for which is recommendations on good games for Rift. In my Steam cart I have Adr1ft and Vanishing of Ethan Carter. Looking at the Oculus Store I see Subnautica which seems kinda cool and Chronos although it doesn't really look like VR adds much to that game so I might pass on that. What else is there that I should get? Also, is there any hope that No Man's Sky will support the Rift? That's one game I'd like to play in VR.

Looking good. Any estimate on length? Don't need a specific number, but a ballpark would be nice.

More like the PC-VR "AAA" Game thread. There are a lot of high quality indie and early release titles, that do in fact feel like full games, and need to be mentioned.

The Gallery - Episode 1: Call of the Starseed <-- one of the best VR experiences I've had to date.
Pool Nation VR
Vanishing Realms
Tabletop Simulator
Audioshield
House of the Dying Sun
Solus
Final Approach

The Assembly is between four and five hours long, depending on your skill level.

Our aim has been to deliver a tight, high-quality game throughout driven by a compelling story, rather than an overly lengthy one. That is to say, we've aimed for an "all killer, no filler" experience, rather than one with a padded middle section.

How's dreadhalls? Looks like a good horror game. Other horror games to consider? I have a few games already but none are horror I believe. I get my headset today so I'm hyped.
