The Walking Dead Season 2 SPOILERS Thread!

Negan would be ok if he had a single speech balloon that didn't involve five uses of the word "fuck" or crass metaphors about oral sex.

Yeah. It's not so much what he's doing as it is how he is written, it's like he was meant to be in Kick-Ass and somehow wound up in TWD. The motivations and how he does things fits fine in the story, though.

Negan is what 10-year-old boys who watch age-inappropriate movies think a badass adult sounds like.

Pretty much. I saw this panel and all I can do is wonder what they're hoping to achieve with this

I think the moments in which he's an insufferable stereotype are slightly mitigated by the fact that (graphic novel spoilers)
it's all an act in order to intimidate both his enemies and his own men into compliance. He's not a perfect villain for sure, but he's a lot more intimidating than the cartoonishly over-the-top Comic Governor was.

Hey, guys. What do you think are the chances that the "mystery" character at the end of the preview is Carly? :D

...

:*(

did you play 400 days ? jus saying .. carly made a very brief cameo in it :p

Edit: I'm I the only one who loved that credits song?

Nope, same here. The song is very good, and any song would have been an improvement over S1's weirdly pitched music that played in the credits (except for Ep5, which iirc had a song too).

Really enjoyed it.

It was a lot easier playing a reasonably self serving, untrusting, and rude character knowing what Clem has gone through. Also its great seeing an 11 year old put adults in their place in a believable way. I usually have trouble doing that in a game, it probably comes from the experience of the first game and still being in protect mode.

Nick comes to apologize? "Fuck you, you nearly shot me".

Luke tries to scold me for it and its just, "Hes crazy. Crazy people kill people."

Loved calling people out on their bullshit. You can tell these people havent been through a fraction of what the season 1 group had been through.

My only gripe was that the camp and dead dog were not that far away. They could have reasonably went and checked.

Finally! Glad I waited for the season pass to go up on PSN. After my 10.00 discount I got it for 4.99.

Was kinda meh on the first episode. It started off doing something just as idiotic as something they would have done on the show. You don't let anyone, especially a kid, enter a bathroom on his/her own without first checking it. I did like the part with Christa in the woods and that they didn't explain what happened to her kid.

The part that felt off was how the new group, especially the pregnant woman, were treating Clem so harshly. How is sending her off on her own even an idea when it's essentially a death sentence? And I get being cautious, but the doc could have had her tied up or tied down prior to treating her arm. To just lock her in a shed felt cruel.

Which is why I was in full on fuck these guys mode and got someone for their watch. Now I kinda wish I hadn't, but I made my choice not knowing if I was about to bounce or not and I stick to it....until my next play through.

The ending was kinda silly. The old man gets attacked, Clem's unarmed, I run to the non-bitten guy and he's all upset because I could have helped his uncle? What the hell was a little kid with no gun going to do to help his uncle who was already bitten and surrounded by zombies?

Looking forward to the next episode, but I'm going to try to play though this season without replaying each episode to get the "best results" before the next ep comes out.

It's funny, I first heard of The Walking Dead (tm) The Game when I was listening to that Alela Diane song on YouTube - amazing soulful artist, one of my favorites - and people in the comments were talking something about "Lee" and "Clementine" and "crying." This was about a year back and at the time I wasn't following gaming in the slightest. Needless to say, I was confused.

Now look at me a year later, crying over Lee and Clementine and their perfectly poignant, wrenching ending. I'd best get out of this thread til I start season 2, then, before the spoilers eat me alive.

icarus-heika, please return to me soon!

I feel the same way. Don't know how much I'm gonna like this season after this episode; most of it felt pretty lame. I couldn't have cared less about Omid but the way he was killed off was so fuckin dumb.

Maybe it's because I played the first season after everything was out and could go at my own pace but.. So far season 2 is whatever to me.

My choices:

I didn't kill the dog because it didn't deserve a mercy kill after chomping on my arm.
The dying guy didn't deserve any water, and I thought he might plead and talk if I refused.
And I didn't accept Nick's apology because he's a douche.

Just started playing TWD S1 a few days ago. Been taking it slow, due to the games... heavy handed nature. Finally got around to S2E1 today. I really enjoyed it. Start is a little lacking, with a little lazy writing imo, but it really picks up when you meet the new group. I am convinced that the "thought you were dead" person will be Kenny, because of the choice of either burning the drawing of his family or Lees picture (or the log if you picked it up).

YES !
especially after all whats happened to her in Season 1.
She seems a lot older than her age.

One of my favorite scenes was her talking to Sarah. You could tell from Clems face that she couldn't believe how childish Sarah was. And my favorite scene was when they found her in the shed with the walker. Such a badass child. My cursor disappeared during this scene, and you can't use 1-2-3-4 to pick dialogue any more, so I failed to choose "Still. Not. Bitten.", I just stayed silent. That really pissed me off. Her growth is probably my favorite part of S2 so far.

Anyone else take the watch when looking for bandages? It didn't come up at all for the rest of the ep, I'm wondering if that will have an effect in the next episode.

Also the writers need to start writing "talking-to-an-8-year-old" conversations better. "Sorry for being a dick earlier"? No one would ever say that to a child.

There are definitely issues with the writing. But for what it's worth, I believe Clem is around 11 now. She just turned 9 at the end of S1, and then there was the months it took for Christas stomach to grow to that size, and then another 16 month time skip.

As for the watch, I left it there. I try to play as a good guy as much as it is possible.

I just finished playing through Episode 6, and it seems like it's off to a good start of a very bleak, uncomfortable adventure. The only thing that puzzles me, is where the game takes place. I would assume that Telltale's series takes place within the same universe as the comic book series, but it seems that Season Two is tied more closely to the television show's continuity. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Anyway, here's my impressions on Episode 1:

-Despite that Christa & Clementine's relationship seems strained (after what had happened to her husband 16 months ago & the supposed miscarriage), I felt it was the right thing to go and save her from that group of thugs.

Also, it's depressing that Clementine has a much more bleak, realistic look at the world from the time skip.

-Given that I usually feel uncomfortable around dogs, my gut feeling had told me that things wouldn't go well when Clementine finds some food. Despite it trying to rip Clementine's throat, it would've been cruel to leave the poor bastard to suffer, so I had to put it out of it's misery. I mean, the pup was just as desperate for food as she was.

-It didn't seem right to give the dying man water, though I thought giving him the bottle might tell me something about Christa's whereabouts.

-Given that Nick had lost his mother, it's possible that he wouldn't be able to live with losing another relative, whom acts as the closest thing Nick has to a father figure. With that in mind, I had to go & save Pete.

-I can understand why Rebecca would be sharp around the other members of the group, but I don't understand why she continues to treat Clementine with total hostility. Given what has transpired, it wouldn't surprise me that Rebecca wouldn't be reserved about killing her.

-I find it weird that the doctor couldn't tell the difference between a human-shaped bite mark and that of a canine. However, it's perfectly understandable how the group would be suspicious of a stranger (with an unidentifiable bite on her arm) telling you that it was only a dog bite. In the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse.

-Roman's cameo was a neat surprise, though I'm curious to know what had happened to him between the events of The Walking Dead: 400 Days & Season 2.

-I thought it was a great decision to have Clementine limited to fending off Walkers and Scavengers, along with how certain items & objects are out of her reach. (You know, given that she's a little kid & not an unstable murderer from Season 1.)

I played the first episode yesterday after getting the full season for $15 on PS3 (yay!).

I liked it a lot, way better than the first episode of the first season.

Also, having 6 silver trophies was a surprise.

Initially, Glenn and Lilly were the characters from the comic, so it was the same universe as the comic. But Lilly's story was altered so that she isn't the comic Lilly; I'm not sure if they did this with Glenn as well or not. So afaik, it's the comic universe.

What about season 2 thus far is related to the TV canon? Other than walkers.

unstable murderer from Season 1

You don't mean Lee, do you?

This series is so depressing. So Christa must have lost her baby, right? I hope that when Telltale wraps up this game (by season 3 or 4, maybe?) that they find a cure and life gets back to normal.

I teared up at the dog scene. =(

Huh, I didn't know that. As far as I can tell, both Glenn & Hershel seem identical to their comic book counterparts, especially when Glenn leaves Lee's group to head back to Atlanta, which ties in to his appearance in the comics & television series.

I will admit that I had jumped the gun on my previous comment. As far as I can tell, the only thing that I had picked up during my playthrough of Clementines Not-So-Excellent Adventure, is that the characters call the undead "Walkers," rather than zombies.

On the off chance that happens, it'll happen in the comic, not the game. Or in the game after the comic.

There are no happy endings in The Walking Dead.

They're called "Walkers" in the comics, too. Different groups of people call them different things, but it's usually "Walkers."

The mystery alive person can't be Christa, or I'm sure Clem's response would have been happier.

I can't remember half the cast from the first game, I only played it once. Which one was Lilly? I hope it's Ben. He was such a clueless idiot.

UD-chan, my love! What's your usual haunt at GAF these days? I noticed you weren't hanging round the
chinese cartoons thread
last time I ventured there.

Hah, yeah. I ditched a few months back. The cause is nothing dramatic, mind you, but I simply got tired of it. I've been a ghost on Gaming Side since then. Nothing jaw-dropping, but hey, It's a living!

I hope that your holiday season was a restful one, if not exciting~ I will hopefully read from you here or around other places of your interest (a.k.a. Film threads!).

Lilly is the woman who shot Doug/Carley. Ben is super dead. It's probably Kenny somehow.

Luckily I have a few games to tide me over between episodes because I can't wait for Kenny to show up next episode :3
Kenny with a leashed zombie Lee

I went back and chose to save Pete this time instead of Nick. I think saving Nick may be the negative decision since he doesn't die if you save Pete and Pete might still live if he cuts his leg off in time. It sucks knowing that the amputation method does work sometimes because of the comics and tv show (which is the only reason why I cut Lee's arm off in the first season), but also knowing that Clementine thinks it doesn't work because of what happened with Lee, so if Pete asks you if amputation works in the next episode and you say yes, you'll be telling the truth but Clementine will be lying. Probably better to go into this series with no prior knowledge of the comic or show, although you won't catch as many of the easter eggs.

Just got around to playing it! I didn't even realize the season pass was out until my sister asked me check. Really enjoyed the episode but I was surprised at how skewed some of the results were. The two I'm interested in is 1, giving that guy water and 2, saving Nick or Pete.

What were some of the justifications for giving that guy water? Because he's going to die regardless? I can see saving Pete over Nick a bit more justifiable but is it riding on the idea that chopping off his foot/leg could save him? As a character Nick seems much more useful but I saw him as a lost cause.

To be merciful. Or to see if he'll say something about Christa.

Both of these reasons are why I gave him water. I thought it was the best option to get him to speak, but I probably would have given it to him even if there wasn't something I wanted to know.

As for Nick and Pete, I didn't really see it as choosing between who to save, rather who I would rather be with when facing walkers, and the obvious choice was Pete. The bite didn't really factor much into my decision, because it's not like he is going to turn immediately. Pete is not only the better (in every conceivable way) of the two, he also treated me much better, and much more along the lines of how I like to picture myself behaving in the same situation. It's not like I have a grudge against Nick or anything, I instantly forgave him when given the option too. I just prefer Pete.

Hey guys,

perhaps not spoilerish, but how much of an influence does an old save have on the progression in episode 1?

If you start a fresh save, are you given choices of some sort or does the game default? I kinda wanna start playing on my PS3, but my old save is on my 360. Thanks!

I had to look away from the screen during the dog section. I chose to take away its suffering & felt terrible for it, but it had to be a better decision than having it struggle and have a agonizingly, slow death.

What I liked:

  • Omid
    :(
  • Clementine was a surprisingly good protagonist.
  • The episode built a lot of tension - (e.g., sneaking around the house)
  • Better dog than COD:Ghosts
  • Good pacing

What was disappointing:

  • Dialog was more generic adventure gamey - obvious good and bad responses
  • Plot had no real direction - Season 1 always had something driving the game forward
  • Character were just less believable in their behavior and actions. Come on, let Clementine at least wash her arm before you lock her in the shed. And the Nick/Pete relationship just seemed like an after school special.
  • Gratuitous stitching - Cheap gross out, and given the low fidelity graphics, ended up more silly than shocking
  • Other than the Nick/Pete choice, it was missing the, "shit, there are no good choices here, someone is gonna be pissed" moments that really defined season 1.

I hope we get into a good story arc for the season next episode, and the writing picks up a bit.

Choices are randomized if you start a save without importing one from Season 1. There are some nice nods to choices from season 1 but nothing major so far. That could change though.

I feel like Telltale sometime are going back to that gap between Omid's death and Christas/Clementines separation. Something of big importance must have occurred during that 16-month period, ESPECIALLY considering that Christa was pregnant during Omid's death and then after 16-month no baby.

Maybe that period gap has something to do with the person that Clementine thought was dead in the episode 7 preview, hmm...

Does anyone know if 400 Days will factor in Season 2? I actually enjoyed those characters and want that to have an impact, but it seems like they aren't going to appear at all. Although maybe dead Roman's appearance means all of them moved up?

When they released 400 days, they specifically said it would carry over into season 2. That was pretty much the point.
