The Wii U is the weakest console for me

And Steam does not have anything to do with games coming on consoles and not coming to WiiU.

Probably meant to say "Steam...along with Origin and Uplay", could have forgotten that not every 3rd party game is on Steam anymore. Third party wise....yeah just about all those games coming to the other consoles, will be coming to pc either at launch or soon after. First party? sure, but then first party games aren't going to any console but their own either so not sure why you just said WiiU.

With all this praise the Wii U has been getting I feel motivated to express a dissenting opinion.

The dissenting opinion was the prevalent one for the first year and a half of the console's life, fwiw. But I hear where you're coming from -- that was my feeling having played some of the XB1/PS4 titles that have come out, as none of them grabbed me like the first titles I played for the PS3/360 (admittedly in Y2 of each console's life).

I don't like the way their online set up is, it lacks proper account management for a start, from what I have experienced with it I feel it is weak compared to the competition in its design. I would like them to improve.

Aside from acc. management (thanks for being specific there, others should learn from that!), what is the issue there? The lack of cross-game, system-wide voice chat? That's the only other real hurdle I can think of.

Buying a console for a sequel to a poorly-selling game that may not ever exist is the worst thing you can do.

I couldn't disagree more, really. I got a PS4 a couple of months ago in anticipation of Bloodborne (couldn't resist the white console) and I'm still trying to figure out what exclusive game I'm supposed to be playing before that comes out. A remaster of a last gen game?

The Wii U had a way WAY better first year + for me. NSMBU+Luigi, Nintendoland, ZombiU, MH3U, Lego City, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker, Wonderful 101, 3D World, and whatever else I'm forgetting as exclusives. Add this year's exclusive games on top and, to me, the Wii U is miles away the best console out right now.

MiiVerse is decent, there is a good sense of community there and some of the drawings are incredible. It's the best thing about Nintendo online in my opinion.

What I do not like is the design of the OS and how it is structured compared to the likes of Xbox Live and PSN. Whilst I have just praised MiiVerse, I feel the whole "Mii" thing isn't appealing to me personally. I don't like the way they look. Profile pics are limited to them and I would like to see that opened up to people's favourite games and characters.
It is personal preference at the end of day, I would like to see something more appealing to my tastes with a future system.

I had no idea Zelda, and Mario weren't selling well.
Did Metroid perform badly? Surely it couldn't have sold worse than the Donkey Kong series or for gods sake Pikmin.

Depends on what he means by "poorly selling game", because Pime 3 did fairly well....Other M on the other hand...not so much(barely did 1mil to this day). Can guarantee when it comes to another Metroid game, Nintendo looked at the sales of Other M and not the sales of Prime as to what to base the franchise getting another sequel would be.

Lol at the Nintendo fanboys hurling accusations of narcissism and immaturity at OP. The guy said hes underwhelmed with the Wii U so far, not that you shouldn't like the things he doesn't.

Personally, I think this entire console generation has been underwhelming, but the Wii U is the best thus far. The Wii U experience (game pad) and exclusive IPs are only found on Wii U, while Sony and Microsoft have a myriad of games that are on both consoles and give the same general experience with the odd exclusive thrown in. If you have a PC and a 360 controller, there is almost no reason to buy a Xbone or PS4.

That said, I can get a brand new Wii U for 250 dollars...and I'm still hesitating.

DKC Returns outsold the entire Prime Trilogy combined if I'm remembering correctly. If it didn't outsell them all, it was close.

Easily the most disappointing console I have every owned, there are just so many things wrong with it from a design standpoint.

I love watching the kids go to war for any game about who gets to use the tablet controller and then whoever gets the wiimote half the time does not want to play wiith it lol

I recently picked up Disney infinity for my kids and the game plays so badly with the WiiMote due to the lack of dual analogue sticks (and technically looks like ass, but not sure if it is like that on all platforms). I'm at the point where I need to decde to buy the gamepad or just rebuy a starter pack for the PS4

Yeah Returns was a surprise hit. It ended up at between 5 and 6 million sold on the Wii, while I believe Prime 1 was the highest selling of that series with somewhere between 1 and 2 million

The Prime games didn't sell well?
What in the hell seriously? They are some of the best of all time. That is seriously upsetting.

You can display your favorite games (represented by their Miiverse communities) on your profile page, btw. The presentation of the interface won't change, I think that's safe to say. I guess you can cross that off the list then, sadly.

I thought this was more about features and performance, since you used the word "infrastructure." So it really is more of a UI design thing?

Some people think the Wii U has the best games EVEN with third party included on Xbox/PS4, for now.some people find the recent Xbox, Play Station games underwhellming.

Thats good ,considering Nintendo are almost the only ones supporting it.

judging by sales it seems the only people that think this are hardcore nintendo fans on the internet, like patcher said they can be a vocal bunch.

They sold decent. Prime 1 is the best seller of the bunch.

But there definitely not blockbusters like Kart or Smash. Far far from it.

They sold decently well but they had a lot stacked against them. Two came out for the GameCube, and the third got kind of lost in the shuffle of the motion control craze thanks to horrible advertising. They definitely deserved to be smash hits, I agree. But it's tough to blame Nintendo for going with another DKC game, especially when you realize that they started production before the Wii U stumbled out of the gate.

Yes I should of worded it better. I do feel the account management issue should be rectified as soon as possible and a better design of the UI. I don't like it as it is currently.

A video game system doesn't have games I'm interested in, so I don't like it

much revelatory. such insight. wow.

and where done here.. seriously why is this thread so long dont we get one of these like every weak?

anyways Wii U for me anyways is an investment and a lot of the games in seeing definitely recently has been great, and even better they trying new things like splatoon and toad treasure hunt or w.e it called

Yeah brown games like Minecraft, Dragon Age, Diablo 3, Far Cry, GTA5, Trials.

You also forgot "dudebro" games like Transistor, Velocity 2X, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Resogun, Hohokum, Infamous SS/First Light, LBP 3, MGS GZ, OlliOlli, Peggle 2, Dead Nation.

It's crazy that there is a system that actually provides "dudebro" games like Madden, FIFA, CoD, Destiny (I guess) along with options of different type of titles.

Because you know, variety should be mutually exclusive and a console should be priced $300 and give you none of this except a handful of select titles every year.

I can't get behind the Wii U hype because the system is practically finished. It's current lineup is pretty close to it's final lineup.

People go on and on about how great the lineup is but fail to mention there is little else on the horizon. As a owner of the Wii U since launch, the waiting game has made this the worst system in a long time. New Wii U owners will feel the drought pretty soon too. I have 2 games I'm looking forward to for Wii U and the wait is going to be 1-2 years, Zelda and Xeno. :/

This is an irrelevant argument. Are you saying that your top ten favorite games of all time mirrors the list of the ten top selling games of all time?

I was talking about the person dismissing third party games, because they come on the PC as well. As if coming out on the PC means that they won´t come on consoles, except for the WiiU. The WiiU does not have the majority of third parties and these games should not be dismissed because they are coming to the PC.

You're in a topic right now where the OP is regretting a console purchase for buying a system in hopes for games that don't actually exist and have no signs of existing yet... and you're talking about how PS4 should be purchased for "20+ exclusive games", without even the slightest bit of idea to what they even are, let alone if they're worth it.

I just really don't understand gamers' obsession with equating a consoles' present to its future. If a console is gonna have a lot of good games in the future, that just means it's worth buying... in the future. It should definitely be held off until we at least get a clear image of what they are. I don't mean to dismiss early console purchases entirely because if you do know a system will have what you want eventually then yeah go ahead with your purchase, and it can be a nice opportunity to try out games you normally wouldn't care for in the meantime... but it's hard to take console praise seriously when it's hyping up a mysterious unknown quantity of unknown quality games without even the slightest bit of insight as to what they could be.

Looking towards a console's unknown future instead of its actual announced library is what lead OP to this topic right here.

I don't see your point for the sole reason that I don't think it's "unknown" at all. We know what studios work for the big three manufacturers, we have a pretty good idea of what they're doing.

And even if we didn't, I'm not sure a single device by Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo has been released where there wasn't many high quality games you could not play elsewhere or else had to wait an extended period of time to play elsewhere. The Virtual Boy probably. The one in nearly twenty.

A lot of people would agree with the OP.

I ended up getting a Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong, NSMB, and Pikmin for an absurd sub-$300 deal earlier this year. Besides playing Mario Kart with some other GAF members, there just wasn't much coming out that I was interested in, or any of the content I owned had any wild appeal to me any longer. Ended up selling it to another GAF member on here.

Felt like the nail in my Nintendo fandom's coffin.

Captain Toad
Splatoon
Zelda
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Mario Maker
Star Fox
SMT x FE
Yoshi's Wooly World

So little on the horizon!
So much Wii U trolling.

It has taken two years, but I think by the end of 2014 Nintendo has finally solidified a strong foundation of first-party releases. The initial HD troubles, and indecisiveness on their target audience may have delayed it all, but things are finally looking good.

2015 builds on the momentum with EAD delivering Mario Kart DLC Pack 2, Mario Maker, Splatoon, The Legend of Zelda, and a Star Fox.

Those are some big guns if you are a classic Nintendo fan. Hopefully some surprises can add to that (more characters for Smash please), even through eshop and virtual console. (Release Zero Mission already).

Current weakest console for me is PS4. I got it on a deal and aside from spending 60 hours with Destiny I haven't touched it much. I probably won't turn it on again until Bloodborne is out.

Sales don't assess game quality.

That doesn't stop some people.

game quality in reality is all opinion and preference, if people prefer fifa, COD, and GTAV over all nintendo games does that make them wrong.
Absolutely not. I myself play FIFA and GTAV lots on the PS4. But also Nintendo games on the Wii U. I just feel that sometimes people are driven away of games they would otherwise enjoy, because either of stigma, marketing, brand value and whatnot.

I'm honestly confused.

I understand not liking the Wii U, but if you bought and dislike practically half of the Nintendo exclusive franchises that come out for it, why buy it in the first place? I assume you would have known about what was coming to it ahead of time.

This thread just seems weird to me, because I've read those other positive Wii U threads.

The common consensus seems to be that IF you own a good gaming PC (or a PS3/360) and IF you look at the exclusive lineups for each of the new consoles that is out now (so PS4, One, or Wii U only), that Nintendo has the best lineup out of all them right now (in the thread creator's opinion).

Of course, people can disagree, and that's good. You might very well like Knack, Infamous, Sunset Overdrive, Halo MCC, more than Nintendo titles, and that's cool! A lot of people just seem to be getting a Wii U and end up surprisingly pleased with their purchase, because Nintendo does have problems, sure. They use Mario characters in a ton of titles, the third party support for the Wii U is entirely absent, the Wii U is a stupid name, Iwata is too stubborn/why isn't Nintendo on mobile. There are problems Nintendo has, and no sensible person (Nintendo fan or not) would disagree with you.

BUT they don't nickel and dime you to death, their games don't have abhorrent Day 1 DLC, they do not treat their developers like crap (and actually treat their first/second parties rather well from what I've seen), executives would rather take pay cuts than lay people off because people with good job security make good games (direct quote from Iwata). They always care more about 'is it fun?' than 'is it pretty?', and thus their games do not age as quickly as other ones do (or at all, depending on who you ask).

In short, Nintendo games can be best summarized by this picture:
miyamoto-reggie-iwata-pikmin-e3.jpg

Haha... I bet you thought I was going to use the picture of Miyamoto with the two kids at E3, right? That picture works too, but the picture I used I feel best reflects current Nintendo. They care about making good, fun games. The three people in the above picture aren't above having fun, even if they're making fun of themselves a little.

They are a company I can feel 0 guilt about liking, both for appealing to the child in me, and while they are a company that has done some ill advised and stupid things (like cracking down on let's plays, their release schedule being wacky/sparse) I can't recall them doing a single thing of the nature of the Unity post release embargo, the endlessly reused mess that was Dragon Age 2, chopping out story critical content from their game to sell as Day 1 DLC (hello, Mass Effect 3 From Ashes!), or any of the many, many things other companies in the gaming industry do that make me feel guilty about supporting them at all, let alone buying the games they make. They've even done some really nice things (the MK8 DLC actually makes me dislike the word 'DLC' less, which I didn't previously think possible).

I totally support the right of everyone, including the OP, to their own opinions. But this entire thread feels a bit weird, because its stated purpose is:

With all this praise the Wii U has been getting I feel motivated to express a dissenting opinion.

When the people who have gone overboard with the Nintendo praise have been shouted down, and the consensus seems to be that in terms of games that are out now, and exclusive to their respective next gen consoles, Nintendo has the best lineup out of all of them in 2014 if you like Nintendo games.
