The Wii U is the weakest console for me

It is the least interesting console for me too. Not into Nintendo games except Mario Kart, guess my home computer background didn't give me enough nostalgia for them.

The hardware, the features and the services are weak and the missing account system and region lock do the rest.

This is understood, but again I don't see why he still thinking these things should not have made a thread. Unless you're saying making a thread is a cry for attention.

Regardless I still think it's fine and it's not as if he decided "I don't like this expensive console I bought!" because everyone on Gaf likes it.

That is my implication here, yes. And yes, there can be far worse reasons to make a thread like this. :P

If that's the case why isn't every thread regarded as a cry for attention not decried as such?

Well, OTs are OTs.
News pieces are news pieces.
Success or failure articles tend to be focused factual pieces.
Sales threads are sales threads.
But the "I bought X" or "X has more than Y of Z", those are quite the "reddit karma" bait threads that seek attention and confirmation bias.

As per why did I reply to this one in particular? Because I like the WiiU. :P

These type of threads, along with "should I buy X" threads confuse me. It is easier than ever to find all the information you need to make an informed choice. They only seem to exist to devolve into list warz.

Thinking about buying a console? Just follow a few simple rules:

1. Are there enough games out on this console right now that I believe are worth the price of the console?

2. Are the games out now, combined with the *officially announced games in the next 12 months, worth the price of the console.

*Make sure they are officially announced not just "I think this will come out". I made this mistake with PS3 and Kingdom Hearts 3.

If you answer no to both, do not buy the console.

Since ultimately, this is a hobby, your personal enjoyment of it is the most important thing. Who cares if a bunch of other people are having fun with a console you see as boring?

Because I really do love several of their franchises that I thought were coming.
Listen man I really want to love all these games but the couch multiplayer thing does nothing for me. I tried Smash last night with my nephew who is insanely good at that game and walked away thinking about how awesome that Mario stage was and how I would kill for a new Galaxy game.

I want their single player games mostly.

I'd be pretty disappointed if a galaxy 3 were announced, I'm ready for the Mario franchise to reinvent itself again.

I dunno dude, Pikmin and DK are fantastic single player games. Sounds like you are setting your expectations in a very specific way. In gaming, you need to be ready to experiment and try new experiences.

Should I make a thread about how disappointing PS4 is because my fickle tastes don't like shooters or sports or RPGs?

sales are indicator of quality. look at all the great selling franchises in gaming, zelda, mario, metal gear, resident evil, GTAV, batman, uncharted series, last of us and COD there all great games.

So Flappy Bird is of a higher quality than all of those franchises combined.

Cool story bro.

Well of course you do, unless you just like to make a fuss about motivations that someone makes a thread for no reason.

My point is it doesn't matter if it's a cry for attention, hell he could have the reason that his cat started walking upright and in backwards Latin told him to make this thread, who really cares? What he said in this case is more important than why.

That's your decision to make. I mean no one's been stopped from making those kind of threads before.

I would argue that Sony in particular still released some of the big boys the same year that the PS4 debuted, just like they did with the PS3 transition, so it's a bit unfair to say "ZOMG there's nothing out!"
Even then, TLOU, Resogun, Infamous were all great. KZ is simply great to look at. Comparing 1 year of software vs 2 (especially when Wii support went off a cliff) is disingenuous.

And given what around the corner, this won't really be any point at all over the coming months.

The nuance of NG is that it's basically a 1 player fighting game. Ryu's cues are subtle (headturn, etc) but they're there, and really, the only beat em up/action games that's given me the feeling of being a badass where the entire game is at my mercy are this one, DMC:SE and God of War.

The first two do it via gameplay and offering weapons and styles to master, the latter does it through story and mystical power items--really mastering them leads to shit like this.
For me, Bayonetta doesn't accomplish what either of those games do. And as a bonus, all of those series are more popular. It's niche for a reason, and not exactly a minority opinion.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Past the hyperbole in the post, I find it humorous that everything you said can applied to everything, except maybe TI-82 games.

All of the consoles use a form of DRM.
All games have patches/updates
Not all games have a season pass
Most games have DLC (like Mario Kart)
Microtransactions? DOTA 2, LoL, Warframe, Hearthstone, TF2, etc are all great games.
F2P? These are on the WiiU.

I get the feeling of being looked at as basically a wallet; and no one should really feel like that, you spend based on the fun you're having and expect to have; but a lot of those complaints apply to more than one platform or publisher.
Steam is DRM but it's acceptable DRM. It's not gross console DRM like Bionic Commando Rearmed or Final Fight that requires you to be online all the time to play the game even though they're not online games.

DLC is a fucking joke. The only DLC I bought last gen was Artorias of the Abyss for Dark Souls because it was a legitimate expansion that added new meat to the game. Instead of being excluded content for the sole purpose of ripping us off, which is most DLC.

Patches and updates are fine if they're not huge-ass multi GB files that require me to wait all day, which is starting to become the norm nowadays...

I have no interest whatsoever in DOTA 2, LoL, Warframe, Hearthstone, TF2, etc

And I know your going to rebutt with "but what about on PC..."
Different platforms have different expectations. I expect complexity out of the PC, the trade off is I get superior graphics to the console and cheaper games that I can play forever on any future pc. The consoles do not provide any trade-off to their increasing complexity. It's just making play games more inconvenient.

And I couldn't disagree more with your analysis of character action games and Bayonetta. Bayonetta stands toe-to-toe with DMC3:SE and NG:B. I could post advanced combo vids all day of Bayonetta that showcase nuance that is unachievable in the latter games. Dodge Offset alone is a major game changer.

The thread is valid. And I'm huge Wii U fan right now.

Never get why people get defensive when people provide cogent reasons for not finding satisfaction on a product.

This thread is the opposite of valid. His only reason for making it is "Nintendo hasn't made new entries in certain specific franchises I want yet, and other Wii U threads are getting too positive." It provides no real critique on the system or its existing/upcoming games, and thus does little but foster list wars and rile up Nintendo fans.

An indicator, and that's even a maybe. It's definitely not the indicator.

As I said, I'm not advocating for the deletion of this thread, I just thought the reasoning for it to be petty and, arguably, intentionally confrontational.

I would be all for more of this Latin cat, he has much wisdom.

Does the same apply to films?

Going by sales is always a rocky path to travel down. I liked Watch Dogs and Destiny, which are two of the top selling games of 2014, but they did not reach critical acclaim like the aforementioned titles.

I gotta disagree. I fell in love the moment I sat down on my couch, and played Mario Kart 8 for the first time, off-tv, while my Wife is watching some boring Cop Drama.

And I'm usually one that bitches about resolution and such, but DAMN what a cool console. And to think I mainly bought it for my Daughter LOL

I dont even have one yet and I know this is how I'll react too.

It's more valid then some of the other threads made on here. It's very clear he's saying it's in a far weaker position as a console than it's competitors and it should be doing much better than it's doing now and could be if it released maybe some more of "insert franchise". As well maybe it's a complaint that Nintendo is the only one that can make those games and it simply shows no signs of doing so.

There's a lot to be discussed here but everyone immediately upon seeing this thread seems to take up a defensive posture and say little more than "Well that's just like your opinion man!"

OP, WiiU definitely still has undeniable shortcomings regarding offering a well-rounded library, but on the flipside, it's offering games and experiences you're not gonna find elsewhere. And to boot, these games are super high quality, with Nintendo's usual insane level of polish. For that alone, I think the console deserves to be doing way, way better than it actually is.

Given your particular preferences, if this is a companion console for you, it shouldn't hurt too much for the time being. Otherwise, might be a bit of a wait, but with Zelda and other titles to follow, I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy the system more down the line.

All I know is that for me, it's handsdown the contender when it comes to nexgen consoles, and (it's still about games here) blows PS4 and the rest outta the water with its library at the moment. It feels like a "normal" console with actual gamey-games. Not a machine offering mostly shooters, cinematic experiences, or stuff heavily hinged on being connected online to be really enjoyed.

That's why I felt last gen was weak, and this one is looking even weaker.
