The Wii U is the weakest console for me

With all this praise the Wii U has been getting I feel motivated to express a dissenting opinion. To me the Wii U has been even more underwhelming than the Wii. I don't discount that Nintendo has been releasing lots of games in beloved franchises but they haven't been releasing any I have ever cared about. The only games on the system that I love have been New Super Mario 3D World and Wind Waker.

I don't care about Donkey Kong.
I don't care about New Super Mario
I don't care about Smash
I don't care about Mario Kart
and I really don't care about Pikmin.

The games I have always loved have been:

3D Mario
Zelda
Metroid
StarFox

I know these games are coming and its not that I regret the purchase of the system but it hasn't released anything compelling for me as a gamer this whole year and that is despite buying every one of the major new releases. Playing them and realizing none of them clicked with me.

Same. It is the complete antithesis to what I want in a console. I look at the line-up people are heralding as "undeniably the best ever" and I laugh.

You want to play awesome couch multiplayer games ? --> Wii U
You want to play with casual gamers as well as gamers ? --> Wii U
You love Nintendo IPs ? --> Wii U

For all the rest --> PS4 / Xbox One

Seriously though, how could you possibly buy a Wii U without liking games like Smash or Mario Kart ?

So you don't care about Nintendo game pretty much in general, and just wanted to complain that Nintendo is releasing Nintendo games?

I gotta disagree. I fell in love the moment I sat down on my couch, and played Mario Kart 8 for the first time, off-tv, while my Wife is watching some boring Cop Drama.

And I'm usually one that bitches about resolution and such, but DAMN what a cool console. And to think I mainly bought it for my Daughter LOL

Well at least your disappointment makes sense.

That said, I must ask when you brought it. Perhaps it would've been better to wait for Zelda to come out and then catch up on everything you missed out on afterwards.

Not sure why you aren't interested in those series, but it doesn't change that all of their Wii U entries were received extremely well.

For me, I've never played a Donkey Kong and Mario Kart never hooked me outside of Double Dash!!, but I loved those games on Wii U.

If you don't like the system's big names/highest quality games then, yeah, sure, I get that. Not really an earthquake of an announcement though.

I was actually lukewarm on the new Donkey Kong Country and didn't even know what Pikmin really was until I played Pikmin 3 (my free game with Mario Kart) but both grew on me massively after I invested time in them. Fantastic games.

I mean, opinions and all that, but before launch, what expectation did you have for when the franchises you really like would release?

3D Mario- last year
Zelda- you had to know a new Zelda was not going to be soon
Metroid- Not exactly a series with a lot of momentum
StarFox- Even more so.

Seems odd to buy a console for 4 series when there was realistically only 1 that you would expect to arrive by now.

But I gotta agree with you on those games, OP. Once we get a PROPER 3D Mario (Yes, I dont count 3D World) akin to SM64, Sunshine, and Galaxy. Once we get a proper Metroid title, and see Zelda launch, THEN it'll be at it's potential.

And yeah, a new Star Fox game in the vein of SF64 would be amazing.

And yet he never mentioned anything to the contrary.

It's that he isn't interested in them.

I got it short term for Mario and Zelda WW and thought for sure I would have Metroid by now.

Welcome to my life when I see all this praise for a underpowered console. Well at least some games are 60 fps so it has that going for it. This is nintendo milking at its finest.

Thats ok.

I don´t give a flying fuck about all the western AAA games on the PS4/XBone and absolutely love the games you mentioned in your "don´t care for" section, so both are incredibly undesirable for me right now.

Which is absolutely fine.

A video game system doesn't have games I'm interested in, so I don't like it

much revelatory. such insight. wow.

Do you post that in the daily Wii U circle jerk thread?

Seriously, there was no reason you needed to post in here, other than you wanting to lash out at the OP because he doesn't like your new favorite toy as much as you do. Grow up.

There's already a 3D Mario!

And that's a shame, but at least the games you want are on the way. Sounds like it's just not for you right now. Also, Pikmin's great!

This is me except replace all the Nintendo franchises with Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101. I'll pick up a Zelda or a Metroid but that's more because of a lack of anything else to play on a Nintendo system.

3D World is a proper 3D Mario.
3D World is a proper 3D Mario.
3D World is a proper 3D Mario.
3D World is a proper 3D Mario.
3D World is a proper 3D Mario.

Need you hear it a sixth time? You must accept this. It's been over a year.

..Why?

PS4 and XOne don't have the games I like yet, but they're not terrible systems and I don't feel the need to counteract their praise.

There is very little reason to own one if you aren't big on Nintendo games, which is the boat I'm in.

If you do like their games though then they seem to be making some of their best games yet so there is little reason not to get it.

1. Friends grew up and all live in different states and when we do get together it's at a bar to play pool.
2. Don't particularly care about this one way or another.
3. I like some of them! Starfox, Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Metroid are the series I care about though.

I don't particularly care for any racing games so Mario Kart has never been something I liked but Smash is alright not my favorite fighting game but I enjoy it. (I bought mine because Bayonetta 2 was announced for it.)

I haven't really liked any recent 3D/2D Mario since the Gamecube days too so the Mario games don't hold so much water even though I give them a chance.

Saying this precisely to ViewtifulJC is the most hillarious thing...
