The Witcher 3, near 300 hours later

Game of the generation for me...and that's saying something as Bloodborne, Destiny (can't help it), Zelda and Horizon have all come out.

Thinking about starting up a new game so I can get around to playing the expansion but I kinda wanna pick up an Ultrawide monitor before doing so.

What is the best steel sword?
Apparently it's this one:
Belhaven Blade - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gaekX1i6VYs
This one can be arguably the best but it's important to note that Relic items scale to the character level you are when you loot it...

Kinda shows that here...

Messy video but it basically shows how if you loot X relic item at Y level, the Relic item level scales to your character level. Then, if you do it again a different character level, the exact same Relic is now a different level scaled to your character level.

So the best steel sword is mostly the one with the best 'types' of stats...
E.g. the Bellhaven above probably has the best raw damage because of the +100% crit damage, and the same +15% chance to crit as most of the best steel swords.

That said, it has no armor piercing and no +dmg vs an enemy type.
e.g. the Squire's Steel Sword has just +75% crit damage and +10% chance to crit, but +200 armor piercing and +50% attack power vs all humanoids...

Which I think should remain better than Hen Gaidth (just Lv51 in this vid)
https://youtu.be/3-SKzWHpjsY?t=112

Cuz even if you loot it later so it's Lv54 or 55 (like the Squire's), it's damage will scale up but I think the Armor Piercing will remain +150 not +200, and it won't have the +50% attack power vs humanoids.

As for Squire's vs Bellhaven, I actually don't really know which is better, I forget how important crit vs attack power/piercing is. Maybe the much higher armor piercing and far higher attack power is a lot better than marginal more critical output -- probably depends on your build, too (e.g. if you use Whirlwind, maybe go with crit, but if you're mostly a Toxicity build, maybe slightly better crits don't matter because your raw attack power/piercing is so much higher.

And if you're Sign build it's probably just the GM Griffin sword since it has +21% all Signs and some small melee boosts whereas Vitis is just +20%. But it also depends on your build... general Sign build, Griffin I guess, but if you're a focused Sign build, e.g. a Piercing Cold Aard build, that Bellhaven Sword's +30% Aard is probably better than +21% all Signs... I'm not sure though cuz it's -9% Aard but Aard and all builds can benefit from +21% Yrden and its Sign buff.+21% to Yrden's buff may be more than 9% extra to Aard, I forget :O Plus, the 6/6 Griffin bonus is HUGE it's what allows for those double/triple casting of Aard spam in that Aard Piercing Cold video.

Hen Gaidth in New Game would be the strongest simply because you can pick it up at whatever high level and it will scale to your level. The later you pick it up, the stronger it is.

For NG+, it depends on what level you start NG+ at, and that might make other swords better. Toussaint Steel Sword is pretty good in either case.

Well. Credits are rolling.

Probably the best game I've ever played. If not, it's damned close.

I'll do a more detailed write up later. Now onto Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine!!

Hoorah for classic Expansion packs.

I just finished the main story last night. Crossposting my impressions from the OT:

Even with the
bad
ending, my time with this game has been something else. What a freakin ride. I'm still eager to play more because of how fun/interesting these characters and world are. I realize this is that game you think about "if you were stranded on an island what game would you take with you" thing.

Also, I went from Zelda BOTW to this. Probably the two greatest open-world rpgs ever made, I feel blessed. I need to meditate on it more, but right now this game edges out BOTW for me. While the gameplay isn't its strongest suite, the story/characters/world all push this to the top.

Sheeiiiiiit i'm rereading this thread again and now i'm wondering if I should finish HotS DLC then start a NG+ to do Blood&Wine

Once you start the NG+ you'll have to do the/most of the main quest again and gain 35-odd levels to go and do B&W, if I understand the scaling correctly. B&W is definitely a post-game adventure to cap everything off, so I'd recommend doing HoS and them B&W in your current game and try NG+ if you still want more.

Awesome. Didn't really think about multiple endings though. Hadn't considered it I guess? No idea which one I got. Tempted to ask, but now this just motivates me more to do a new game plus once I finish the Expansions.

You'l know if you got the bad ending, believe me. Luckily in my two playthroughs I got the other two endings. One is very bittersweet (and has my preference), the other is what most people consider the 'good' ending.

Yeah I'm only 200hrs in but log on occasionally to wander around and am impressed that I still run into new quests. Top tier game that I don't want to end....I just want more!

Beat the game twice already. Right now in my NG+ run I still encountered two new quests, even after I referred to a list of sidequests at the end of my second playthrough. One's in the Novigrad sewers, and the other at the most northen end of Ard Skellig accessible only by boat.

Apparently it's this one:

Belhaven Blade - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gaekX1i6VYs

I wonder how this compares to Iris. At the time I obtained it I was stunned at how much more powerful it was than weapons of equal stats. Took out an entire group of Novigrad guards like it was nothing. Haven't used it since since though as I wasn't fond of its appearance.

Edit: turns out I've already completed that quest so checked the stats for my level 54 Geralt, less than his 81 level damage for sure but pretty good. Compared to my equipped Viper Steel Sword. Might craft it and give it a whirl.
