The Witcher 3 vs Skyrim: which did you prefer?

Witcher 3 is like Skyrim but with every single mechanic and aspect upgraded. It's not even close, Bethesda is nowhere near CDPR's level.

The Witcher 3 absolutely shames Bethesda's efforts in Skyrim. Or more simply, The Witcher 3 shames Bethesda's efforts entirely.

Skyrim is an ocean with the depth of a puddle and a million times worse combat then even W3 has with all it's faults.

Story is not even on the same level and the overall world feels worse in Skyrim.

W3 hands down.

When they move on from their shitty engine and invest more into the writing, perhaps Bethesda will make something comparable. Skyrim simply isn't even in the same league.

Bethesda games are more like an empty canvas that you can paint with mods and imagination. If you like roleplaying then Skyrim is a great game. If you like to play with mods, it can become even better.

I do prefer Witcher 3 though. Its world is much more believable and the storytelling and characters are miles better.

But Skyrim is by no means a bad game, so you should definitely play it when you're finish with Witcher.

Witcher 3, and it's not even an argument for me.

Skyrim isn't a bad game but my preference is absolutely Witcher 3, owing greatly to the fantastic stories that Witcher 3 contains within it.

Skyrim is so incredibly shallow, I just found myself asking why I bothered to do anything in a world that pretended to care about my choices. None of them had consequences, but wanted to act like there was.

The thief plotline was cool, but beyond that, the stories it told were just crap.

The witcher 3 on the other hand was an incredible story and the way it unfolded was very personal. You could see real impact on the characters. Believable despite the fantasy.

No contest.

Tough call... Witcher 3 seems a much better game on most fronts in such a comparison, but the combat was actually enjoyable in Skyrim to a degree, so it has that.

For the time?

Skyrim.

Playing that at launch... and going by literally everyones thoughts - it's clearly the winner here.

Now? The Witcher.

Skyrim was still quite enjoyable....but I loved the Witcher 3. Going back to other games hasn't felt the same since. The combat could have used some improvement but it was hardly the shit show folks around here would have you believe. I can't wait for Cyberpunk

If I want a to play in a more realized world with an established character and awesome graphics and music, I'll play Witcher 3. If I want to roleplay any type of character I'll play Skyrim.

Skyrim is great in that the mod community has really changed the core game for me in big ways. Playing with Requiem and Frostfall changes Skyrim into a survival fantasty RPG in all the best ways. It doesn't change the story, which is Skyrims biggest flaw in my opinion. Both are great. Glad we don't have to choose just one.

I've kind of had enough of Bethesda's robot people, robot stories, robot environments.

I personally don't think mods even come close to salvaging those deficits.

I think it honestly depends on what you're after. I'd choose Skyrim because I like creating my own character and story in WRPGS, and the Witcher is much more focused on telling its own story.

The fact that in one game you play as an established character with his own personality and in the other you create your own character is a fundamental difference in the two games, and I think it's a big reason why people always claim Witcher is "better".

Also man, I keep forgetting how angry people are that Skyrim did well.

For as great as I've found TW3, I spent hundreds of hours in Skyrim. The Witcher has better character animations, voice acting, overall storyline/plot. Skyrim had an open world map that was (to me) more fun to explore and less tedious to navigate. I also enjoyed the combat MUCH more in Skyrim.

So is Witcher 3 the better game? In many ways, probably yes. But in the end, Skyrim was the one that I sunk hundreds of hours into. There was something about it that I just couldn't resist, and I will return to it to play it again once the new edition comes out.

Witcher 3 great for Story etc.

Skyrim great for Waifu mods.

Skyrim's modding scene essentially makes it the best porn game ever. One could mod in Triss and Yen from Witcher 3 and have actual threesome with the two ladies instead of a cocktease.

I think most of my time with skyrim was me trying to fix things. I was too distracted to play in the end. Really enjoyed my time with both, but only finished TW3 because it really grabs you despite how long it is.

Witcher 3, not even a contest in my mind. Skyrim is only good on PC with a billion mods.

Once you factor in the DLCs, Witcher 3 laps Skyrim a few hundred times.

To be fair, Bethesda's trademark is their gameplay loop of exploration, dungeon crawling, and loot that I don't think anyone else in the industry has truly cracked yet. The Elder Scrolls are all about creating your own character and making your own story, heading off to a random region on the map and immersing yourself in its subculture, progressing your character through the side quests there.

The Witcher doesn't have that despite its use of an open world but it's still a better game for reasons which have already been stated.

ok, just what is this meme?

Other than both having a big world, I think they go for different things. But to answer the question, Witcher 3. It's top 5 ever for me right now. Skyrim wouldn't make my top 50.

TW3... it's not even close. I've tried to get into Skyrim on 3 different occasions. TW3 hooked me my first time. 100 hours later, and I'm just getting started on HoS.

It's Skyrim for me. The Witcher 3 is simply too good. It makes other AAA RPGs seem unappealing and bland. With Skyrim, I can't wait to stop playing it and go for literally anything else. The Witcher just can't top that.

Skyrim needs a ton of mods to be even passable so the answer is The Witcher 3.

Then again, why would you even play it without a ton of mods.

It's a tough call, I just recently played Skyrim with a ton of mods, and am now playing W3 again. Each has its strengths.

The Witcher 3. Its not even close

Skyrim has wonderful music, a well designed open world, and mediocre everything else.

Skyrim. Just enjoyed it more, dunno why. I feel like exploration wads more of a thing in Skyrim. Granted, a lot of that was due to being able to work the movement system so you could jump up mountains, but I just felt like there was more to explore, and more secrets to find.

I won't make an argument for any specific aspect of Skyrim being better designed than The Witcher, but I just enjoyed it more personally.

Witcher 3.

It's got the world building and exploration down pat, for the most part. It's towns and cities also manage to feel appropriately believable while Skyimr uttery fails on that part and even though I think both have less than excellent combat, Witcher 3's at least feels a little more like I'm living out the fantasy of the character than Skyrim.

I'm looking forward to Skyrim Remastered just for an excuse to play it again though.

Witcher 3 is the "better" game in almost all ways, however I prefer Skyrim. Probably has to do with nostalgia for the previous games.

Overall, TW3. But it does not really have the same sense of actual open world RPG. Skyrim to a much larger extent supports the "do want you want" gameplay.

Definitely The Witcher 3, but I'd prefer a smaller (map size) game to be honest I don't know why so many games need to be bigger than ...
