The Witness Is Now Available For Xbox One

This is probably a ridiculous statement, but, in my view, if you have good taste in games, you will love this game.

Best game I've played so far this year, and I doubt it will be supplanted.

This game is definitely worth $40.

Especially in Canada. Every AAA game keeps getting released with huge mark-ups because of our terrible dollar. For example, Forza Horizon 3 is $80.

But:

Inside came out at $20 (same as US)
The Turing Test came out at $20 (same as US)
Nightmares from the Deep 2 came out at $9 (same as US)
The Witness came out at $40 (same as US)

Love it. The amount of great puzzle games getting released this gen is phenomenal. And Canadians get a slight discount getting price parity like this.

I really want this game. I heard they added an FoV slider to the PS4 version... I'm assuming the xbox version launched with a slider too. Can anyone confirm?

It does have an FOV slider. But I don't know exactly what it does and I chose to leave it completely alone. The game looks fine to me. Maybe I'll play around with that setting once I come home from work tonight.

Changes the FOV..?

This entire nausea thing with this game was completely made up bullshit IMO.

Somebody started it, it got "popular" and suddenly everybody was like "I think I feel it too!"

Your mind is powerful, plays tricks on you sometimes.

The PS4 version was 900P right? What's this version running at?

It's not made up. It made me sick on PS4. I'm not sure if an update helped, though, since I haven't played since launch.

Word to those that pick this up: Only start playing once you're ready to binge through it. I started the PS4 version then set it down after a few days and when I went back I couldn't remember half of the rules I had figured out and I've not played it since.

Honestly, so glad i bought this back on PS4. One of the best puzzle games ever made IMO.
If you're a puzzle fan, it's MUST BUY.
But i warn you guys, this game get's HARD AF.

That's weird. I haven't played in months and still remember the rules.

It's not bullshit. Lower FoV and not having a reticle for a focal point seem to be the major causes for motion sickness in video games, and The Witness did suffer from both of them at launch.

It did, they added an option for a reticle and an FoV slider up to 100.

bullshit. I noticed it way before it became well-reported. (and it also wasn't related to FOV for me - I'm fairly certain it was related to the odd way the camera accelerates.)

I just had to deal with it, because the game is great otherwise.

Are you asking if the game is good enough to justify spending $40 in it? Because whether it's indie or "AAA" doesn't relate at all to its quality and (perceived) value.

But, yes. It's one of the best games of the year. It will be hard to find a better crafted game than The Witness. As for its length... it really depends on how well you do with the puzzles. I guess it can last you for, at least, 20 hours if you're going for the bare minimum to "beat" the game (or are some kind of savant who picks up every single mechanic on the fly).

Avoid it if you don't like puzzles, though.

I just bought it based on the replies.

Thanks to all.

Fantastic game. Really enjoyed my time with it.
Word of caution, DO NOT play this game while you have flu.
You will be solving the same puzzle again and again in your sleep.

Maybe it's a matter of how much you played before stopping. I remember the basic ones but not all of them anymore. Probably depends on each individual as well, just wanted to throw it out there so maybe a few people don't end up in my position.

I wish I could experience this again for the first time. The rule sets and some of the solutions are so memorable that I'm hesitant to ever do a second playthrough because I know it won't be nearly as impactful.

As mentioned if you get stuck on a puzzle, go somewhere else on the island instead of beating your head against the wall. The game is unabashedly non-linear.

edit: Also one of the few complaints I have about the game is that it didn't tell you that you can sprint and speed up the line movement, they aren't on the same button either. I'm guessing they're on the L/R bumpers for Xbox controller.

This game is brilliant. Very clever puzzles and the island is beautiful. As you play through it you will unravel layers of genius game design. Just don't use a walkthrough or any internet guidance because it might spoil some of the surprises.

Man, that feeling when I found my first
enviormental puzzle

My mind was blown and then I started looking around the world and....

Hot damn this was such a fantastic game!

Top 3 games of the year for me. If you enjoy an intellectual challenge, you simply have to play this game. If you don't consider a new puzzle "a reward", then be warned.

How is it possible that Witness is 900p 2x MSAA on PS4 but 1080 4xMSAA on Xbox?

Should that even be possible?

...

It's possible because The Witness is running at 60fps on the PS4 and 30fps on the Xbox One.

The developers did a great job with the 1.3TF they had to work with, but it's not some sort of miracle.

really enjoyed this game, put about 40 hours in on steam - want to go back because I'm missing a bunch of the "end game" stuff

I think my save is something like 490/50/1

I know you have multiple saves but I wish they had the option of account A/B/C

so I could keep multiple games separate (to start over with one account and continue "end game" stuff with the other)

this is one of those games that builds on itself - worth every cent.

Honestly surprised they went for 60fps on the PS4 as it does not really seem the type of game that would benefit greatly from going 60fps.

Payed full price on PS4, just paid full price again on Xbox One. This game deserves all my money.

The good thing is I remember the mechanics and such, but I don't remember the solutions to any of the puzzles. It might come back to me when I go through again but I can't wait.

Wait are you fucking serious? Dammit. I don't mind too much - I remember using paper and pencil to solve the mysteries in Fez.

I've solved 25 or so puzzles so far in The Witness and none of them have required graph paper. If this is a serious recommendation then I guess I'll go and get some...

I absolutely love the game so far. I'll go ahead and rate it 5/5 already. One of the most beautiful games on XB1 and another in a long line of stellar XB1 puzzle games.

It's a serious recommendation.

Also, it will help to have a pair of scissors handy.

Trust.

It's a fantastic game. I wish I could go back into it totally fresh.

My playtime was a lot longer and I don't think I got stuck for a particularly long time on anything. The game is definitely a great value if you like what it offers.

Me too. I just like to take things slowly and explore everything. but 20h is howlongtobeat average just to give the person who asked maybe more accurate answer.

Have really been interested in this game, but never got around to getting it on PC or PS4. Might get it for Xbox One soon, though.

Yeah it really helps to have a notebook nearby for this game. And take pictures with your phone/tablet. In a few years or even months I will have forgotten everything and I'll replay through this gem again.

One of the most memorable experiences I've had in all these years playing video games.

Ah taking phone pictures, the memories.

Actually spent around 60+ hours on the game, amazing game,

Been waiting a year and almost bought a ps4 a few times to play this. I'm very happy that it's on Xb1. Even managed to stay spoiler free this entire time. It's hard as balls and wonderfully beautiful.
