They Worked On WHAT?! Shocking Credentials of Game Devs

Didn't like... all of Konami's talent back in the 90s have a hand in Tokimeki Memorial (the dating sim)?

Kojima and Igarashi did, at least...

David Perry, the guy who owns Gaikai and is now probably a millionaire, made Earthworm Jim and Disney's Aladdin. My mind was blown when I saw his name and saw him at the PS4 reveal.

If he makes a PS4 Earthworm Jim & Marc Cerny makes the real Marble Madness 2....look out.

I always remember that Shinji Mikami worked on Aladdin for the SNES and mean to go back and play it.

The Genesis version.

The Creator of Earthbound, Shigesato Itoi, voiced the father character in "My neighbor Totoro". I was spitting out my coffee left and right.

I'm sorry to do so, but I really feel as though I must call you on this. I've heard Itoi-san speak numerous times and at various playback speeds (.5x, 1x, 2x. etc). I'm also an avid, avid fan of Tonari no Totoro. I have never made this connection. It's just so impossible that I can't even believe it myself. However, perhaps you thought the same, which resulted in your bidirectional beverage expectoration.

Kamiya also helped to make Resident Evil, RE2, and REZero, which I found surprising.

I just recalled one: reading Hardcore Gameing101's giant article on the Mother series and how Earthbound was in development hell for like 4 years. It looked like it was never going to be released, until a programmer came in at the last minute to fix everything. That programmer was Sotaru Iwata.

When Pokemon Gold/Silver was in development they ran out of space on the cartridge before they were done and Iwata compressed everything so well that there was enough space left over to include Kanto as a bonus.

Iwata vindicated.

Yoshiaki Koizumi the director of Super Mario Galaxy was also responsible for the script and story of The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening

Mario voice actor Charles Martinet also voiced the most badass dragon in Skyrim, Paarthurnax.

Apparently, Atlus developed Friday the 13th and The Karate Kid for the NES. I would never have guessed that.

David Hayter is the dark hero Guyver...

Edit: Not a dev though obviously. This is still something that should be known :)

Reverse that for me, so THATS what he did after that Matrix game turd!

Britt Daniels of the band Spoon worked for Origin and composed the music for Strike Commander.

Michael Giacchino got his start by doing music for Medal of Honor.

Bennett Foddy of the band Cut Copy is the creator of QWOP.

DMC3 had the same director/producer as DMC2...

But it was later found out that Hideaki itsuno was brought on to direct DMC2 very late in the project when there was no hope left for it.

How is it surprising? That's what he's most known for.

He was the DIRECTOR of RE2

I didn't learn about it until after I had associated him with his over the top action games, so learning that he worked on cheesy, more slow paced horror games, was surprising to me, if somewhat fitting.

Kamiya also helped to make Resident Evil, RE2, and REZero, which I found surprising.

And to finish this circle, Shu Takumi (director for AA1-4/Ghost Trick and a good friend of Kamiya's) was planner for Dino Crisis and main director for Dino Crisis 2.

A great deal of people who worked on the God of War series worked on this:

And it shows...

I had some doubts about this, so went through the credits. I hope in your world "a great deal of people" means ONE person, because otherwise you're hilariously wrong. Almost the entire Wolverine team came straight from the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series.

DMC2 started out as an entirely different game but was turned into a DMC after the success of the first one because Capcom wanted to get a sequel out as soon as possible.

2nd to last is Elina Vance from Queen's Blade (a rather NSFW anime/series) & last pic is Michiru Matsushima from a visual novel called Grisaia no Kajitsu: Le Fruit De La Grisaia.

Grisaia's gonna get an anime adaptation and, as per usual adaptations of visual novels, the VAs will maintain their roles. I get the feeling that it'll be big if they can adapt it properly. Michiru and her route is fantastic.

Looking Glass Studios, one of the finest PC developers, arguably.

Made classic games; both Ultima Underworlds. Thief 1 and 2. System Shock. Flight Unlimited.

...and John Madden '93 on the Genesis.

(Also N64 ports of Command and Conquer and Destruction Derby)

Also, *some* ports of Battle Chess and Battle Chess II (and unfortunately, I can't find consistent definite information as to which) were produced by Silicon & Synapse who later became Blizzard.

Tony Taka, that artist who works on those overly moe designs for the crappy Shining games these days?

Or one of the top-tier hentai artists who draws the most smoking hot girls?

Hideki Naganuma, composer of Jet Set Radio/Jet Set Radio Future, is also the composer of the anime Air Gear

If Attack on Titan hadn't been killed by its terrible pacing and unfinished animation, it certainly would have been by Sawano's laughably awful music destroying every third or fourth scene.

if there wasn't a thread about a guy saying RE4 is the worst RE game on the front page, I'd say this is the worst opinion I've heard on here in a while.

Hardly mind-blowing or obscure, but I booted up a fresh save file on my Shining Force II cart and I thought to myself "why does this feel so familiar?" (setting aside, of course, the fact that I've played it before).

After a quick Wiki search, apparently Hiroyuki Takahashi created both the Shining series and Golden Sun, another one of my favs.

Warren Spector, the dude behind Deus Ex and other classics, did the Epic Mickey games.

If there was no internet, would never have guessed.

Here's 2 for me.
  • Yoko Shimomura started her career doing parts of the soundtracks for Street Fighter II and Mega Man 5.
  • I always thought Yoshitaka Amano was the character designer for FF9, but it was actually Hideo Minaba and Toshiyuki Itahana. Apparently Amano just came in later and drew the "official" designs but didn't actually conceive them.

Yoshinori Kitase.

From...

FFV
FFVI
Chrono Trigger
FFVII
FFVIII
FFX

to

FFXIII
FFXIII-2
LR
Yeah Kitase is as big of a mixed bag as they come. I don't know what to think of him anymore. His latest work is crap but he's also one of the very few big names from the PS1 era still at Square. Hope he doesn't fuck up XV.

The Creator of Earthbound, Shigesato Itoi, voiced the father character in "My neighbor Totoro". I was spitting out my coffee left and right.

Itoi is well known in Japan as a being a bit of a Renaissance Man. I was reading a random post on BoingBoing about a popular artists' notebook in Japan and apparently Itoi came up with the design.

Shinji Mikami's first big game directing gig was Goof Troop SNES.

Tetsuya Nomura designed a lot of iconic FF5+6 monsters, including that towering Kefka final boss everyone loves.

Wasn't there some rumor that Goof Troop used some of the same game assets or engine from RE? I remember reading that a long time ago.

Nomura also designed the profile chibi characters used in some of the FF6 packaging, though he wasn't properly credited for it at the time.

Sort of gaming related, the same designer who designed one of the ugliest phones ever, the sidetalking N-Gage...

nokia-n-gage-big.jpg

... designed also one of the most beautiful phones of all time, Nokia Lumia 800

3657_nokia-lumia-800-photo.jpg

Also the Freespace and Summoner games.

And back when they were still Parallax they did Descent 1 and 2. Parallax split in two with the other half doing Descent 3 and Volition doing what we now know them for. Though the Descent heritage isn't much of a surprise since they love alluding to it (e.g. Red Faction Armageddon had you fly a spaceship indoors called the Inferno GX with quad lasers and concussion missiles).
