Things you DON'T like about GTA IV

I've finally gotten used to most of the game's faults (besides lack of mission checkpoints), but I do have to say that $100 million dollars should be plenty of money to realize that tapping a button to run is an embarrassingly dated design choice.

Uh...yeah they do man, that's mostly what they do.

GTA: San Andreas and all PSP counter parts.
Bully (seriously, come on).
Table Tennis: AKA the GTA 4 graphics demo.
Midnight Club: possibly the worst racing series on the gaming market.

To say that they don't make shitty games is...incredibly false. I don't think they're a bad developer, or incapable of producing good games, but most of their products are incredibly boring and useless.
You do have some pretty weak taste in games. You like Tobin, so that's a plus, but wow.

I don't like sandbox games, except of course for Crackdown, and I'm looking forward to prototype.

I've never been a fan of Rockstar's work, so many people like them for being controversial, I'd rather have good gameplay mechanics.

Because of people like you, I will RETRACT my previous statement. I think that the games are unappealing, but I understand why some people enjoy them.

My favorite games of all time:

Super Metroid
Final Fantasy 6
Donkey Kong Country
Half-Life
REZ
Metroid Fusion
Link To The Past
Panzer Dragoon Orta
COD4
Mega Man 2 & 3
Ninja Gaiden
Mass Effect
Portal
Street Fighter 3 & Alpha 3
Super Mario World

Alot of people think I have weak taste in games because I voice my opinion about overrated/very hyped games, I just think those people are a bit too caught up in the machine.

Amon Tobin kicks ass.

I just think it's weird. We all know you hate the games, but you continue to post in this thread, almost as if you're trying to convert others. I know everyone is allowed to post in here, but I'm surprised you continue to. If I don't like a game, I want to stay the hell away from the game's thread. =P

Lol, I would DEFINITELY agree with you if this wasn't a "things we don't like about a certain game" thread, I find that as reason to stay and nit pick.

If you seriously want me to leave, I will, you seem like a nice enough guy and I don't want to bother you further.

Ok, after seeing the Sox win, I booted up the game again. Of course, I think I ran into a glitch. I'm out on a date with
Kate
but no matter where I take her, we can't do anything. WTF? =(

Edit: Rebooted and could enter the restaurant (where I couldn't before, weird).

Nah it's fine really. I'm not in this thread much anyways. I do have my own issues with the game, but I'd say that for most fans of the genre, GTA IV is upper-tier.

PM'd you with music reccom's though.
The Leaf stuff no, but Bonobo yes. Ninja Tune back in the day...Coldcut, DJ Food, Funki Porcini, among others. All right, back to the regularly scheduled GTA bash-a-thon.

I'm sorry man, I think that's the stupidest logic I've heard in a long time. There's no reason the cool new features that were well received by the public should be taken out of future releases. Makes no sense.
Call it what you like - I'm not saying it's a good thing. I'm saying from their perspective I can see the logic. They're dealing with creating a whole new engine and making everything work. They have to limit complexity somewhere to get it out in a somewhat reasonable timeframe.

I'm sure, like last generation, we'll see a slew of cool new features in the game or games to come in this generation. And I'd similarly bet that they'll start the next generation with a much more realistic game that lacks many features we've come to know and love.

They should've spent some more time on A and not so much on B.

Leaving stuff out because of the immensity of the job of getting this next-gen engine going properly, I totally understand, although I'd hope they could rise to the challenge. Releasing a game this buggy, I don't. There are top-tier studios out there whose release schedule is "when it's done", like id, Valve, and sometimes Nintendo and Capcom. Rockstar should be able to afford to be in this club, since they made three 15-million-selling games last gen, and this game has always been a guaranteed multi-million-seller on day 1.

No special rewards for shooting pigeons, doing the wanted list, etc. I remember in Vice City for every 10 packages you get a weapon at your safehouse, not to mention money. You would also get money for the super jumps. Other special rewards were special taxis with shocks, upgraded health and stuff like that. Seems like this game has none of those other than achievement points which are useless if you have it on the PS3.

They are pressured by Take Two (especially the company being in the situation its in). I'm sure the next GTA will have all the missed features as well as additional ones. There's so much extra content packed into this game that I don't see the reason to complain anyways. And when's the last time Nintendo, Capcom, or Valve release a game this massive?

the stupid driving. handling is too hard imo.

Personally I never get these driving complaints. After 5 minutes of getting used to, they were second nature to me. Maybe it's because I don't have a long history playing other 3D gta's and I have no preset expectations when it comes to that aspect.
Driving is easy as can be: let go of the gas in turns, press left trigger to brake a bit, continue. I only use hand brake to do a 180 in cop chases or when I need to brake abruptly.
I only have a couple of hours of playing III and VC as a reference point, but I like the driving mechanics in IV much much more.

I really dislike some of the game play stuff, like some missions are really bad since they havn't made it possible to use the somewhat buggy cover system so you end up just looking around like a headless chicken while you just lose all your armor and health.

Also really dislike the lock on system, trying to get a lock on, on a enemy I need to kill but the damn lock on just jumps around on to everything except for the person I need to wack. It's just a pain in the arse when it's a scripted fight, but you have AI bad guys all over the place so you will either have to try and run after the guy and most likely die or you will fail the mission from not being able to catch up to the guy.

Some of the ped behaviour seems a little dumbed down even from the previous versions.

Someone runs me down and then jumps out of their car. I get up, jump into their car and they just wander off! :lol

No one seems to react to bodies or explosions much. I recall from the previous games that peds would comment upon seeing a body and a vehicle that had blown up drew quite a crowd of onlookers.

Then there are some amazing reactions such as when you slowly drive up to a ped and they put their hand out onto the bonnet.

Awesome game BTW.

what do you mean by this

He means that nobody told the level/mission designers that there would be a cover system. Some shootout scenarios simply don't offer viable cover.

I don't think it's a major problem and it has never killed me, but it is pretty noticable. Or, actually, the first subway part of Three Leaf Clover is pretty bad -- the AI guys are hogging the only two viable cover spots!

I'm 15-20 hours in now and totally loving the game but the 1 real thing I miss from Saints Row is the Garage system, it can be such a pain in the ass to find decent cars in GTA4, seems even worse than GTA3 because the spawns seem much less dependant on your location and much more related to what you're actually driving.

However much the 'spawn whatever the player is driving' mechanic saves them resource wise it's not worth it because it makes the car hunt even more infuriating, you can spend 20 minutes searching for a good race car, then the second you jump in you'll start seeing them everywhere.

All the games have had chop shops that you sell cars to, why not just let you buy cars from them too?

Starting to get upset with the chopper controls. I guess the AI has made it easier to follow this person, after me dying 14 previous times.

I guess the flying mechanics are realistic, but its a pain in the ass.

Why isn't my car in the center of the screen? Why is it off to the right?
Why haven't they fixed the controls issue?

:(

According to a GTA apologist on another forum, it's their "fix" for having the camera too low to see what's in front of you :lol :lol :lol

this is incorrect. The reason is that the camera centers on Niko rather than on the car. Motorcycles are in the center of the screen for the same reason.

WTF that's so incredibly retarded. The handling model is shaky enough already without driving my car like it's a gun in an FPS >_<

I need crosshairs to drive :(

Not being able to buy property is one of my biggest problems with this game. You get all this cash and nothing rewarding to spend it on with the exception of guns. There just isn't a feeling of moving up in the world that the older games had either which is another major disappointment. Tell you the truth the game doesn't feel finished to me, I think they left a lot of stuff out. I bet the expansion (or DLC) will address most of these issues though. Not that I'll be able to enjoy it anyway, since I only have a PS3 and not a 360. I wouldn't pay for that crap anyway even if I did own a 360, it's insulting.

Bottom line, great game, but they held a lot of stuff back from it for the DLC IMO.

I know it's not the real reason, I was just pointing out how stupid some people can be when defending weird design decisions :D

I think the PS3 will get it all on a disc further down the line.

gotcha. I personally don't have a problem with the camera being too low any more than I did in the GTA games last gen. When I'm cresting a hill, I nudge the right stick to look over it, but the rest of the time, it's fine.

I finally got to play the game for several hours last night. I agree with others about the soundtrack- it sucks and is nowhere near as badass as the Vice City OST. Shadows and lighting are astonishing but the character models look all kinds of silly (seriously, troll faces abound). Car controls are pretty dissimilar to previous GTA games but it's not a huge deal in my opinion. I'm more concerned with the reckless traffic that seems intent of fucking me over mid-mission. Overall it's a great game and I'm eager to play some more.

Currently I'm not enjoying one mission (near the end I think). It's long and in three parts and you can fail it very, very, very easily. This game needs checkpoints. Even the replay option is useless as you don't get your armour or ammuntion back. Keep replaying a mission and you'll end up with no ammo and just a baseball bat. Well, I assume that's what would happen. I prefer to reload my game and try again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that DLC exclusive to 360? If PS3 does get it, it won't be for a long time and that sucks because I bet that's the other half of the original game right there.

There is a reason MS paid $50 million for it. PS3 wont ever see that content

Downloadable.

Rockstar aren't stupid, they are gonna want to sell this shit to everyone who bought the game. 360 gets downloads, PS3 gets a disc somewhere down the line.

YOU SEE IF I'M WRONG.

Yeah right before GTA 5 is released.

I did not like how dark the game is by default, but after adjusting my TV i have noticed more detail in every thing else. The drakes fortune trailer, I can now see his hair; it looked like a black blob before GTA.

here's another bug in the game that can destroy your save file.

While driving around on my motorcycle, Roman gives me a call and lets me know we got an apartment in Algonquin. Before the conversation is over, a cop car plows into me and I get thrown off the bike. This immediately ends the conversation with Roman, making the new safehouse not appear. I had to load from my previous save.

This happened to me a second time while getting the first call from Ray, causing the Ray icon on my map to not show up and I wasn't able to pick up missions from him. I had to load from my previous save.

I've never cared for any of the racing or timed missions in any GTA, makes my blood boil. GTAIV is no different in that regard. The chase missions are pretty bad but I've found GTAIV to be a bit more lenient than the previous games in those types of missions.

Wow that's some really basic bugs. Really shouldn't go past their QA like this. WTF

Shouldn't the said person call you up a little later if that's the case?

Anytime I've had a call get interrupted, I got called back later. It's still retarded though that I can finish a mission with 3 stars and the police closing in, and the first thing Niko wants to do is dial up somebody.

Yeah, you can work around the driving eaisly. However, the problem starts up when you do chase missions and the guy you're chasing is fucking Speed Racer, breaking all of the rules you have to abide by while driving. Then you sit there wondering why the hell you have to work around the driving mechanics.

The thing that really gets me about this is that the main essence of this game is driving from point A to point B, and it should be really easy.

It is easy once you get used to the changes, I found driving on the bonnet cam was the best way.
