Things you should not buy on the cheap

Kitchen knives. Buy a decent set and take good care of them.

THIS!

I may be a bit biased since I am from Solingen, the knive city with Wüsthoff, Zwilling etc. but I cant really stand kitchens with cheap tableware and knives. I mean you are using them almost every day, so you should have a good sharp set that you dont have to replace every year or so.

I dont even understand who in Germany would buy cheap knives from Ikea or some noname brand, because usually brand knives here are quite cheap compared to foreign countries.

Never settle for a beater car. I briefly owned a really old Honda Prelude that cost me more per month in emergency repairs than I would have been spending on a decent new car.
It also attracted a ton of unwanted attention, especially from cops.

Buy higher quality and buy less. It's been foolproof for me so far.

Instead of beater kitchen aid blenders, buy the vitamix that'll last you 15 years and comes with a seven year warranty.

Instead of beater vacuums, buy the Kirby that'll last 20+ years (my fiancés parents have a G4 they bought for 1500 back in the day that's still going)

TP is a perfect example too, op. Cheap shit basically takes a ton more to wipe that ass than a good solid charmin roll

Smartphones.

I've often found myself playing tech support for people who bought cheapass Android phones (< $100), and it's no fun at all dealing with those. You don't need a Pixel, or an iPhone, or the newest Samsung, but at least get a decent mid-range device. The guiding concepts of "you get what you pay for" and "the good shit lasts longer" apply here too.

Mattresses. If you're gonna use it every night, get something decent.
I can vouch for this, used to have a terrible bed that was giving me many sleep problems and stressing me out heavily. After getting a new bed my sleep has become much better now.

I bought a USB charging cradle from the Dollar Tree.

It charged my phone.

I touched it and it burned my hand. I mean, like touching a an oven rack burned.

Headphones.

Nah. I'm way too tough on my headphones and am always breaking or losing them. My $20 Sony earbuds do just fine and are easily replaceable.

If I never left the house I would totally buy a nice pair but as is cheap is my best bet.

I broke my $100 Sennheisers in ears 😕 dont underestimate the toll headphone wires will take when working out. A case for Bluetooth headphones.

Toilet paper.

Okay. Get the cheap stuff. I'll just use 4 times as much.

What about you?

What kind of mess are you making - is it literally poop soup?

Things that keep you off the ground

AKA: Beds, chairs, shoes, tires, etc.

Anything that's usually between you and the ground.

Shoes

Bed

Tires

It's worth spending on anything that will support your body for a significant portion of the day. This likely includes shoes, chairs, and the mattress in your bed. Good stuff will be more comfortable and last longer; it's all part of the Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

the general rule is never go cheap with anything that keeps you from the ground. Tires, shoes, beds, etc.

This is good advice to live by, Although I kinda knew it subconsciously, it's good to know consciously.

Phone charge cables.

I have tons of dollar store cables around the house, if one fails, which they do within 8 months to a year, no biggie, I just replace them with another one. they do the job, my good quality cables get chewed up by the dog and the cats anyway!

Computers. People who buy cheap computers usually hate computers because of the awful experience and they wonder why. You get what you pay for.
I also disagree with this, I bought an Acer Aspire R 14 inch 2 in 1 convertible Laptop on sale for about $750 Canadian bucks, I had very little expectations, as far as performance and quality... but man this thing has grown on me, the built quality is great, dropped it from a bathroom sink (counter) once, have banged it on walls and doors while walking around the house numerous times. the rubbery outer shell has been holding up really well, the battery charge has been phenomenal, over 6-7 hours on light internet, daily use, 4 hours on work and youtube/Netflix video streaming use. I've been really impressed by its performance, the Solid State Drive has been great on boot ups and saving work. 8 gigs of Ram does the job with multitasking and i5 has ran very quiet and efficient, sounds like I'm really selling this thing, but I am really happy with it.

If anything I may give a negative to, is the screen, it doesn't do blacks and colours well, (RGB, Adobe etc) but still a decent screen to watch movies, videos and browse the internet with (read) etc.

Power supplies, Chargers, Toilet Paper, Shoes, Winter Jacket are all the big ones I see.

Haven't seen anyone say Winter Jacket yet, but a good one will last extremely long and when you need it, you'll fucking need it.

750 bucks is not in the price range of a cheap computer the poster is talking about

like walking on fuckin clouds plus they look tight

people who make fun of people who wear expensive shoes probably wear skechers

Lol seriously. It's an investment I say.

I can't bring myself to spend $180 on sneakers but they're so fire.

If you've ever get a chance to try them on in a store please do. Never thought myself to buy one but I passed by a footlocker and just tried out one myself and boom I was hooked.

It's money well spent and if you can't bring yourself to buy one just try saving a little here and there to achieve that price point.

Need to buy a good knife. Recently bought a good pan to replace this old ass wrecked pan and its been a godsend. I can only imagine a well maintained quality knife

Yeah great, small pans that don't have shit stick to them all the time are a must, especially if you love eggs. need to flip them over easy and omelettes

$750 doesn't fall into that category, especially when you said it was on sale. I'm talking about the $300 shit box computers from the big box stores. See the following video for what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akVnl4HIHPY
