Things you used to believe as a kid

When I was 5 I thought clouds were mountains. I can still remember my dad telling me they weren't, and that you couldn't drive on them. That could be both my earliest memory and my earliest disappointment.

When I was in 5th grade (5TH GRADE!) I was on the honor roll, but did not know the days of the week. Nobody had bothered to teach me the DAYS OF THE WEEK. I remember being angry at my parents, and very embarrassed. I can recall in detail the class room, the group desk I was sitting at, and my blank page that was meant to contain the days in order.

When Waynes World came out I was obsessed with Bohemian Rhapsody. So, of course, I got the tape single and my cousin and I listened to it incessantly. Well, his mom told us that Freddy Mercury loved other men (I was like 11 or 12) and because of that he died. So thanks for that Aunt Elaine.

My mom once stated in the car that she was thirsty, so I being the kid I was said "Just drink the water that comes up from your stomach" , meaning saliva...

smh young me, smh.

I remember my dad told me fizzy drinks had AIDS I didn't even know what aids was except that people in africa had it. I didn't drink it for months. Till my Uncle told me my dad had lied to me

Has that affected you in any way now? :p

when people went home or on holiday they ceased to exist until i saw them again.

when you fly on a plane the reason it took so long, was that they had to build the area you were traveling to.. the plane never movd just the scenery changed/was built.

When my mom drank a soda in the car she was "drinking and driving".

Ha. I used to think this too. I distinctly remember seeing some guy drinking coffee while driving and commenting to my parents that he shouldn't be drinking and driving.

When I was a kid I used to pick at a mole I had and to make me stop picking at it my mother told me I would bleed to death if I picked at it. I grew up being scared to death of being scratched and the mole getting opened. Anytime anything went near my mole I frantically checked that it was ok.

I also for some reason thought any kind of sexual activity would give you aids. Not sure how that started just remember being real young and being scared I was going to die once.

Man I was a dumb naive kid.

that you could grow up to be anything you wanted to be

So true. I should have found out that was true when I thought about it. "Can I really be a fucking tree if I want to, mom?"

I believed so much dumb stuff though. My brother told me you have to call the police if you want to drive the wrong way on the street, or run a red light.

I was exploring the garden when I found a snail hiding in it's shell. Thinking it was a trapped slug, I immediately jumped into action to free it from it's prison.

And thus I learned a bit about snail anatomy...

that people only use 10% of their brains.
I still heard that from a teacher in med class.....
They even had that in one neurology test and she laughed when I told her that I refuse to accept this as a correct answer...

Until you hit puberty and discovered an even better one.

I honestly don't think I believed any random crap like you guys.. my parents didn't really allow me to be a kid.. I learned to read when I was 3.. and if I ever told my Mom or Dad that I believed some of the stuff said in this thread I'd have gotten in trouble.. probably beaten or spanked.

I used to think these things made clouds :(
There's a power plant just like that one the way to my grandparents' house. I always used to call it the "Cloud Factory" as a kid but I don't remember if I was being facetious or not. I think at one point I did actually believe it.

That I could concentrate my Ki in the palm of my hand and then shoot it at people

Fucking dragon ball z :(

I remember there was an episode where Gohan teaches... 'Hercules' daughter' how to do just that. The next day a friend and I spent all of class trying it out.

GODDAMN LIES!

-Blood was blue until it came in contact with oxygen.
-Adults had unlimited money.
-You get smarter when you grow up. (No I didn't, I'm still fucking dumb)

some adults made me kinda believe in hell, was a struggle to unlearn it :/ had nightmares and all, for years. one time i had such a frightening dream about going to hell and being tortured by Satan that i woke up almost choking on my own vomit. yep.

if i knew the names of those sons of bitches who targeted an impressionable shy young boy like me for brainwashing.. i... i would write some really angry emails.

The disability sign in parking lots were for people who really needed to use a restroom and thus had the right to park there.

Seriously believed this shit till I was like 6-7.

That Molyneux was a genius far above any other game designers.

Also thought that different languages just swapped letters like E in English would maybe be K in Spanish.

I thought that when the moon was in the sky during the day, it was a cloud that was like, an imprint of where the moon had been at night, or some shit.

I used to believe that a tiny apparition of Jesus appeared between your hands when you prayed. I have no idea where I got that from. I remember trying to peek in and see him.

Maybe if I saw him, I'd still believe.

My mom told me that thunders just were giant blocks of ice that smashed each other in the sky. When I learned about electricity and charges I was like "Yeah, that's all nice and all...but where in all of this are the ice blocks?"
