I'm pretty sure that's what it is, she wrote v-card next to the guys she would potentially sleep with. All of her previous conquests were hand jobs, blow jobs, or kissing only.
 
He should have showed her the scan and then used it for blackmail. She'd never rat him out on anything ever again and there's nothing she could do about it.

Can't say I feel sorry for the brother. He knew he shouldn't have had beer in his room; it's illegal. I'm not sure if this was going too far, for what he did to his sister on facebook, but it probably would've been better to blackmail her if he really felt like he had to take revenge.
 
I'm not going to comment on whether or not it was justified BUT I can see this hurting him too socially. I mean, I think it's possible that some girl he likes will look back at this action and really come away with a negative opinion of him.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Asian culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like in America where you can become successful by being a slut. If you screw someone over in high school, you bring internet shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is that the Facebook public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to have intercourse with Katie in either hole, nor will they go down on her. This is AWESOME! You can laugh all you want but Katie has alienated an entire market with this move.

Katie, publicly apologize to your brother and take the 3 month grounding from him or you can kiss the rest of your social life goodbye.

If some of these guys had actually been sexually active in high school, they'd know that everyone knows who everyone fucks, list or not. No one is going to give a shit at the actual content of the list, 100% chance that just about everything on there was known already. The only thing that's funny is the existance of a list itself.

Hell, when I went to high school (1992-1996) there was no internet, no cell phones, whatever. Yet somehow (coconut telegraph?) we knew about every sexual encounter between classmates within 24 hours, tops. Some seriously shocking / humiliating / funny shit. People lasting 15 seconds. Guys using plastic wrap as a condom. The girl that thought every time her boyfriend got hard that she had to get him off or "it wouldn't go away".

Guess what? We all survived. No one's life was ruined. LOL at the overreactions in this thread.
 
maybe a bit excessive, but still pretty awesome and she'll get over it eventually. These days being a slut actually furthers your social standing in HS anyways

This might be a fair comment; a deontological system of ethics may make no reference to proportionality, for example.

I can understand how my comments might have misinterpreted what he wrote if he was writing from the position of descriptive ethics. As I am looking at it from the perspective of normative ethics, then it is understandable that we would be arguing at cross-roads.

Of course it was naive for the girl not to expect some reaction from the boy. It doesn't make the boy's reaction permissible, however. This is very much the naturalistic fallacy - we cannot deduce an "ought" from an "is".

I'm not sure why this is controversial.

Unless we apply to a deontological ethic - this being a factor that I have highlighted myself several times in the thread - how are we to judge my hypothetical without reference to proportionality? If it is the case that, within a consequentialist setting, proportionality is the standard of morality, removing that standard would mean that my hypothetical is permissible. Of course, the former claim (relating to proportionality being the standard of a consequential ethic) may be wrong; I need to think that over to fully commit to it.

Writing this paragraph has made me realise that I may have written "contextualist" when I should have written "consequentialist" in my previous posts, and so I apologise for any confusion that may have created.

I believe that if a system of ethics should be at all useful, it must be coherent. As a result, it is necessary to take one's position on one scenario and apply it to a different one.

My question, therefore, would be why the "family dispute" is so incomparable with the hypothetical such that my decision to compare the two removes SN's judgment from its supposed context.
