This is SSX (Trailer) + Uber Mondays

Anyone know if it's possible to have both songs from the game's soundtrack & songs from a custom soundtrack for in-game play or can you only choose one option?

That was amazing and should go a long way to silence a fair amount of people hating on Ridernet.

That does nothing to silence people like myself who want real player-vs-player. We already knew what Ridernet was for the most part, this just showed it in more detail.

Thanks for the recap, soultron. So much good stuff in there.

I'm gonna miss the punch button giving me dat instant Tricky boost.

And yay for a demo! I'm already sold on the game though. Just gonna use it to find out which control scheme I like more.

I fail to see how the absence of being able to occasionally hit an opponent makes competing in real time for best times and scores somehow not real player vs. player. I am also not at all shocked to see continued negativity towards this title.

Not like players would even be able to hit each other on SSX's extremely wide courses.

If it's anything like Hot Pursuit (the only other EA game I own) or WipEout HD, then it's one or the other.

If anyone has any questions as to how online works in the game they need to watch this exclusive video that was given to MerquryCity.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAZSBEgHa5w&feature=player_embedded
Wow that's awesome, I didn't realise that other players would be represented in realtime along with a ghost (I thought you would just race against people's best run ghosts).

This approach fits the SSX style well, I could totally see if they had "traditional" style race events where starts are linked up as soon as someone screwed up they would just quit out.

Ghosts are turquoise, players are not...
i saw in the video, where the todd batty guy pointed out the players and they looked like ghosts.

edit: the players have a turquoise glow around them but you can make out their details but the ghosts are turquoise and empty.
edit:nevermind. So online is just time trial?

Of course not. You have a victim-complex because not everyone shares your view of the game. Many features a lot of us loved about the original few games are gone. Doesn't mean the new one wont be great in its own right, though. Gone are split-screen, the ability to simply free-ride, real (YES REAL) multiplayer where everyone lines up at the starting line and goes at the same exact moment, and replays. Ridernet is cool for sure, but when it's a replacement instead of an addition, not everyone's gonna embrace it.

Is someone taking down a list of players for each console? I'd like to have my name on that list if there is.

FatBaby on PS3

If you add me, just let me know it's from NeoGaf. I seem to get a lot of random people try to add me for some reason. :)

Sucks about split screen and replays. Apparently you can freeride by creating a private global event and not inviting anyone. And what's the point of having synchronized multiplayer if there is no player interaction?

For anyone who wants to listen to the SSX Ubercast interview (2+ hours with Todd Batty, Justin the surprisingly relaxed PR dude, and a special guest appearance by Connor Dougan at the end) here it is in all of its glory. Drinking game included! :P Thanks to CharmyDweeng at Merq for putting this together, as usual!

Lots of great info that will resonate with you if you're an SSX diehard.

I've gotta watch the MerqCity exclusive video now, excuse me!

Well, there goes 2 hours. Time to make a sandwich.

That video was awesome. I was always thinking that the marketing videos were posed as hell, what with there actually being riders around that you could see at all times, but it looks like that actually happens in the game. RiderNet support (with everything being clickable and taking you to events, for instance) looks off the fucking chain.

That doesn't look as bad as it originally sounded. I'll have to wait until I play it myself before determining whether or not I should be eating this:

Trust me when I say it was confusing for me to wrap my head around as well. That's why I wanted to wait for the official word to see what it was like with our own eyes. Glad the team at EAC took the time to put together this video for us.

You know what blows my mind? Know how Todd mentions in the beginning of the video that it's hard to demonstrate the capabilities of the MP with the limited amount of friends (only reviewers and EAC QA staff have the final code and are playing over Microsoft Partner Network) he has playing the game right now?

Imagine that video with hundreds people phasing in and out all around you. Well, obviously characters in range/on-screen will be smaller than that, but just imagine seeing all the different people you're going to pass, and that are going to pass you, on a Global Event run.

Fuckin'

Here's the demo thread I made.

Soultron, did they specify how many people can be in global event at a time?

You can do custom ones with your friends, which can be set to private (your friends only) or friends of friends (which means events can "go viral" if you set the time limit for a few days, for instance).

As far as we know, however, the public Global Events don't really have a cap. I think they've tossed around numbers like 100K people competing. The cool thing is that there is zero lag (because of things like no collisions in the online mode, for instance), as was mentioned before.

I'm more excited by the fact that he says "...it's a 30 minute race..."

Note that he's speaking about the event duration and not the run time. This means that if a run might take you 6 minutes to complete, meaning you could repeat your run 4 - 5 times (if you start right when the event is created) in an effort to improve your own score and beat other competitors who're also trying to post better times.

Because this game can get stupid-fast (250-270 KPH at top-geared speeds!), the longest drop is about 6-7 minutes long. The older SSX games are slow as molasses by comparison, and probably have shorter runs because of this. (Another reason why I can't really play the old ones anymore. :c)

I heard this yesterday. I didn't want to believe it.

Why not try it and see if you enjoy it? Demo's out Tuesday.

I'm currently rocking the fuck out to this track. (Originally rumoured for SSX, but licensing complications caused it to be cut, I'm guessing. Gonna put it in as part of my custom soundtrack.) Updating the |OT| with all the new infoz!

I'll share the title with you guys since I'm tired as fuck right now and think this is funny:

SSX |OT| "I'm flying, Jack!"

You'll remember Jack from the original annoucement:

LOL I don't need a demo - I'm buying regardless. I'm supes excited about the new SSX. Been too damn long.

Also, good song; definitely going on m SSXy PL.

I had two questions after watching the video and luckily Mr. Batty replied me explaining them.

If someone makes a global event open to everyone, and that person who created it is not on my friends' list, how do I join their event? Is there a global event browser where I can search for global events and join whichever I want?

So these brackets... Is this all we're gonna be able to see when the event is over? 5 brackets? Can we see the full leaderboard of everyone who participated? I want to be able to see everyone's scores at the end and see if I placed 2nd, 3rd or 4th, not if I placed on a Diamond, Platinum or Gold bracket...

-for bakalhau, I just realized I didn't explain this very well in the video but if you don't have friends (or even if you do) there are always some 'sticky' recommendations in your global event wall. Things like where the most people are currently playing, where the biggest current pot is, the most people playing in a free event, etc. And you can also simply choose to browse the globe which has tons of different info about all the global events at each selection level (range select, peak select, drop select). And finally you are also served up at least a few ridernet recommendations in the post event flow after any run whether you have friends or not. The game is truly more enjoyable if you do have some friends (and I highly recommend adding some of the Merq folks as friends) but we always took into consideration the experience for those without when building the game

-also, as far as standing go we actually chose not to display standings in the traditional way (ie ranking 1-N) with the reasoning that finding out you finished 114,712th is kind of depressing vs finishing in the Silver bracket. We do, however, show how you finished relative to all of your friends (if you have any in the event) in more of a traditional leaderboard manner so you can see exactly how you finished relative to them.

The core design philosophy has always been the same. Tricks = boost. The same is true for this game.

Agreed. That's what made the original couple of games great, but so did split-screen. What I'll miss most of all is replays. I used to replay my runs a ton in Tricky. Made doing all those insane tricks even more fun.

I'd have gone with 'SSX |OT| It's tricky to rock a rhyme' or something like that but hey your show. No one remembers Jack.

Just listened to the whole podcast and am glad I did. Super.
Also what was the question you asked them, soultron? If that was you, the one they couldnt even say - the ending 15 minutes with questions from listeners.
