THQ's DS Game: Drawn to Life

This could be fun if the gameplay is decent as well. Can you use the D-pad for more detailed pixel drawing, Jackson?

Yeah, would be really nice to hear more!

- content exchange?
- different profiles?
- EURO RELEASE DATE?
- more features
- thanks :]

Was it difficult to create this game with almost no outside support and market it?

Is there any more you are allowed to tell us about the game, for example its length, or game modes or options? For example, is the "town mode" still in the game? How would you best describe the basic gameplay?

We've been working with THQ on this title for awhile actually, totally new original IP is scary to anyone, but THQ has been very supportive of Drawn to Life during development.

I can't offer too much more info, you all know how it is hehe... But yes per the original preview, village mode is still alive and well :) it's where all the story takes place, this isn't JUST a platformer

That's really cool. Although I really hope you have a lot of pre-made parts for those people who can't draw.

We got all you non-artists covered for sure :)

Draw Mode is very robust, you can get to the nitty-gritty of per-pixel drawing for sure

- content exchange?

Yes, content exchange is possible over local wifi

Hey Jackson,

Is this a town building aspect? If so, does it take place like Actraiser where you directly build the town, or like Terranigma where your actions in the side-scrolling levels change things and unlock parts of the town? I know you just said you couldn't mention stuff we didn't already know, but I figure I'd ask anyway.

Really looking forward to the game.

Thanks, I'm glad you're looking forward to it! DTL has been my baby for over a year, and all of us here worked our butts off on it... :)

Ya that's a screenshot of village mode, which is still in the game. It's a very key part of the game...

To answer you question: Which is it like? "Yes" is the answer lol :lol

hopefully you guys are Graffiti Kingdom fans?

Drawn to Life is a lot different than Graffiti Kingdom in a lot of ways... DtL is all about making a really good/fun game around a cool concept.

First time hearing about this title. Promising and interesting - I hope all goes well through development and we get something that lives up to the concept :)

Yeah because this is a PS3.

Get the hell out. You get more annoying by the day man, I don't mean it as a insult but its what I see.

Holy crap that was a long time ago. Also, it pretty much is, though it looks good for the platform I suppose.

Oh those new screens are awesome. <3 Really glad this game got a publisher, and THQ at that, so I guess that means it has a chance of seeing an Australian release!

So how detailed can you get in the drawing mode? Have some of your actual artists been able to come up with really good player character sprites?

can't get into too much info about it just yet, but there's a TON of features for draw mode, a lot of time and love went into it...

basically, if you want to spend 5 seconds drawing something or 2 hours on your hero you could... and that's the beauty of it, the effort you spend directly relates to detail of your creations.

if you were artistic and spent time you could make some really awesome stuff.

EDIT: actually even if you WEREN'T an artist I'm sure you could copy art off the net and make cool stuff if you spent the time

I'm looking forward to this, Jackson...make it as great as your team can! Gumbare!

5TH Cell's trying to make a name for itself in AAA titles, so ya we're really trying hard :) We think its pretty awesome, course we're a bit biased..

So how is animation of created characters handled in this game? There haven't been any videos.

"The team uses some pretty complex trickery to make use of the player's art, stretching and pixel blending for animations, and moving arms/legs/head programmatically with the equivalent to boned models."

That's what Bozon said on the preview hehe... so take it for what ya can, otherwise gotta wait until you see it in action

Thanks for the information. :)

What are your team's thoughts about the DS platform for development? And although I understand if you can't/won't answer this one: Does 5TH Cell have plans for any other DS titles in the future?

This looks awesome, wish it was coming out sooner.

Question to the dev:

Is this intentionally similar to the house with Bow Wow in Link's Awakening?

DS is a great little system, overall our guys were very happy working with it

For right now 5TH Cell is focused on making "Drawn to Life" great, so that's what I'll discuss

Is this intentionally similar to the house with Bow Wow in Link's Awakening

:lol no, not at all

Did you guys hire a separate division for DS development, or have your mobile developers transitioned over to the DS?

We're out of mobile, mobile was a good way to start and grow the company but it's not our focus, we're all console gamers. Our passion is innovative, original titles. We love the DS, so the DS was just the next logical step from mobile. :)

Just a question Jackson; how long do you think this platformer will take to complete in a run through?

I mean it looks awesome and has an awesome concept. But honestly, if the story is as good as you say it, PLEASE tell me it's going to be long.

Oh and imagine:

with a giant Pikachu, or Master Cheif. OMG the possibilities!!!! :)

I wish I could tell you the length of the game lol but I really can't... more info will come over time for sure as the game gets closer to release

Love it. When I saw Pac-Pix technical demo in E3, I really thought the concept of painting and let the system put life on it would shine in DS. This looks impressive an fun, looking for it.

First trailer of Drawn to Life up at GameTrailers from the Nintendo Media Summit

Very nice.

Even if it's a demo, I only hope the levels will be more challenging that what is shown here.

The ideas are excellent but I don't want them to be sacrified just because the game will consist in looking at what we have drawn walking/jumping. It will be the main difference between a game and a mini-game with 0 interest.

Please don't forget the level design, story line and all these things that make a game, a game.

Keep the good work coming. o/

It looks great. But then, this is THQ so I worry a bit...

THQ should make some DS RPGs. You guys seem to have talented artists. :D
