Three in August - Backlog Divided

The challenge is to finish three or more games in a month.

It doesn't matter how long or short the games are, or if you're already near the end. Sometimes what counts as finishing a game can be fuzzy, so you can use your own judgement. There aren't any hard rules.

Having this goal can be a good reminder to pick up some old saves, and motivation to continue games through the occasional frustrating times. Some months can be harder than others, and different people have different circumstances, but three can often be an achievable goal to push for.

Please post your goals for the month, and please share your triumphs and setbacks and impressions of the games you play as the month goes by.

How Long to Beat is a big help, as a guide to how much longer a game will take.

52 Games. 1 Year. 2016. is a thread for if you're looking for a bigger challenge.

I finished:
Abzû: Finished on the 2nd. It's highly reminiscent of thatgamecompany games, as the art director of Flower and Journey and the composer of those and Flow both worked on it. Its structure is also reminiscent of those games.
WarioWare: Touched: Finished on the 12th. I got it for free with Club Nintendo. I hadn't played a WarioWare game before. It would have been amazing when it was new as a way to show off the DS, and is still an interesting diversion.
Mobius Final Fantasy: Chapters 1 & 2: It's an episodic game and Chapters 1 and 2 were released here at the same time so I choose to count them together. I almost consider it an idle game, mostly having it auto-battle. Finished on the 14th.
Inside: Finished on the 29th. It's a wonderful game and a big improvement over Limbo, with many great moments and a handful of excellent ones. It's one of the best games of the year.

Persona 3 FES: I just started this two days ago and I don't plan on playing another single player game until I'm done with this.
Fire Emblem Fates Conquest
Fire Emblem Fates Birthright

While playing Monster Hunter Generations with friends and Street Fighter V for my competitive itch.

Bonus: Fire Emblem Fates Revelation if I finish my three games before hand.

Kingdom Hearts: ReChain of Memories - I'm about seven or so hours in, but have fallen off in a big way. I enjoy the combat, but I just need to will myself back into it. It was kind of a mistake to jump right into this after finishing the first game, because the first third or so of it retreads so much from the original that I'm just kind of bored from a narrative perspective.

Undertale - This is my third time attempting it, so I'm definitely going to see it through this time

Red Dead Redemption - I was hot and heavy on this once it hit backwards compatibility, but now I'm staring down the mouth of Mexico and my motivation is waning. I'd like to finish it again, though, as I've only played through the full thing once, and that was awhile ago now. I don't remember a lot of the back half of it and I want to experience that stuff again because I remember it being real good

Alice: Madness Returns
Folklore
Either: God of War 3, Resonance of Fate or Tales of Xillia 2.

I stream on Twitch every time I play something to keep myself somewhat motivated. I play a lot of games but these are the ones I hope to beat soon.

My Plan is to beat:
Abzu - Should be easy since its gonna be a 4 hour game.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - It is going to be a big game, but i really am a huge fan of the series so i'm sure i'll get this done.
Ace Attorney Investigations - Already 2 cases done, so i'm positive that this can be done this month.
Ace Attorney Investigations 2

P.S: I should stop playing Overwatch. Its eating up all my gaming time. Only game i beat last month was Inside, coz i was playing Overwatch all damn time.

Planning mainly to try and beat new releases this month.

Batman (Telltale): Episode 1 - Shouldn't take too long, hoping for TWAU-level greatness.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens - More than halfway through the main story now and loving it.

Abzu - Been waiting a long time for this.

Bound - If it's short I'll give it a shot.

Grow Up - First was great, high hopes.

I'll also be playing No Man's Sky and Mankind Divided, but there's no chance I'll 'beat' those this month.

Having lots of free time and in a really great mood to play games despite the weather. Everything should be doable.

- Hyper Light Drifter (PC)
- Steins;Gate (Vita)
- Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)
- Nier (Xbox 360)
- Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (PC)

Have two priorities this month:

-Borderlands: Already about 2/3 of the way through

-ABZU: Can't wait to start playing it

After that to round out the month want to finish at least one, if not more, of the following:

-Pikmin 3

-Stick of Truth

-Gravity Rush Remastered

-Forza 6 Porsche DLC

planning on doing I Am Setsuna, Kirby Robobot, and Dark Souls this month. also about halfway thru Pokemon Red.
edit: aaaand just started Strider out of nowhere

Cool! - first time participating.

I'm going to try and finish

Steins; Gate on Vita.

Play 20 hours of Dirt Rally (10 hours in). - Really digging it.

Play 20 hours of Euro Truck Simulator 2 (10 hours in).

Persona 3 FES - i guess i'd say i'm a little less than halfway done? i'm currently in august in game (funny coincidence)
Fire Emblem Awakening - of the three, i'm the closest to finishing this one. i'm currently on chapter 17 out of 26 or so, and it's been pretty easy overall
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 - pretty much just started. i only just made it to hollow bastion for the first time, so i've got a long way to go
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest - gonna move on to this one when i finish awakening
P.S: I should stop playing Overwatch. Its eating up all my gaming time. Only game i beat last month was Inside, coz i was playing Overwatch all damn time.
you and me both. i'd probably be done with my entire backlog if it weren't for OW

As expected I did not finish any game last month (RE7 demo doesn't count :p ).

This month:

Super Mario 3D World
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3

This month I'll try:

3DS
Citizens of Earth

PS3
Devil May Cry 3

PSV
Virtue's Last Reward
Zero Time Dilemma

X360
Portal
Under Defeat HD

I have lots of free time aside from part time and occasional sports during the break. Let's see how many I can finish in a month. I have these games on my next to finish list:
- Valkyria Chronicles Remastered
- Yakuza 4
- NieR
- Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Her Story

Finished Infamous 2 at like 4 AM so that's one down for August.

Otherwise, plan to finish:

Bayonetta
Vanquish
Red Dead: Redemption
Resistance 1 and 2 (if I get the time)
Metal Gear Solid 2 (if I get the time)

Hyper Light Drifter (PS4)
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine (PS4)
DmC: Definitive Edition (PS4)

Some awesome games, I'm just severely lacking time.

I'll go for those :

Super Mario Maker. I just need to complete the expert level for the 100 Mario challenge.
Driveclub Bikes. I'm at the last trophy, but this is hard.
Donkey Kong 94'. I just need to find where I put my 3DS :-( .

Bonus : Saints Row Gat out of Hell. I will try it since I got it on PS+ but if it's not my thing I'll drop it.

"Doom" (PS4) - Whimsically bought this reboot last week and I'm pretty intriged with the fast pace nature of the control sensitivity. It actually threw me for a loop with the apparent lack of a dedicated run button, iron sights and reload mechanics which I find nostalgic for the old-school roots of the franchise. It feels like a nice companion piece to the recent "Wolfenstein" works as well.

"No Man's Sky" (PS4) - Possibly the sole new release that I'll attempt to beat this month outside of the latest Limited Run titles. With the "Deus Ex" sequel launching closer to the end, I'll have to let it spill over into September given the length of the campaign and I know this game, coupled with Id Software's release, will max out my leisure time.

"Mirror's Edge Catalyst" (PS4) - On some wild chance that I can knock out the previous two mentions, I'll give this recent freerunner a spin on the rooftops. The original release from last-gen was one of my favorite titles with an emphasis to avoid combat in a cityscape with a simplistic art palette. The ambient electronic soundtrack from Solar Fields was pretty nice, too. I look forward to seeing these aspects again in this trip.

I'm close to finishing Picross e3, Picross e4 and Kirby Triple Deluxe, so those are my three. And maybe I'll finish my replays of Final Fantasy X and Persona Q.

Finally finished The Witcher III and the Hearts of Stone expansion this past weekend. Next up is the Blood and Wine expansion while waiting for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

OVERALL for 2016: 9/21 (43%)

RECAP from JULY - 2/3 (67%)

1 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt / PS4
Finished early last week.

2 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone Expansion / PS4
Finished this past weekend.

AUGUST

1 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine Expansion / PS4
Really looking forward to playing Blood and Wine after the base game and the Hearts of Stone expansion. It's going to be nothing but three months of The Witcher III and the two expansions.

Only one game for August since im not sure how long it will take me to finish Blood and Wine while im waiting for Deus Ex.

Hoping to beat at least three among these. I'm getting DE: Mankind Divided but I want to take my time...Most expected game of the year :)

  • Sunset Overdrive (XONE)
  • Ni no Kuni (PS3)
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (X360)
  • El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (X360)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 (X360)
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction (X360)

Yes. Brillant opening of the month. 2 down, 3 on the way.
Added Grim Fandango on PS4

3DS
Citizens of Earth

PS3
Devil May Cry 3

PS4
Grim Fandango Remastered

PSV
Virtue's Last Reward
Zero Time Dilemma

X360
Portal
Under Defeat HD

There's probably no way I'm going to beat three games this month but I'm going to try to finish The Witcher 3. If I do finish it, I'll update.

Witcher 3 with its two expansions might as well count as 3 games at this point, to be honest...

This month I'll complete:
- Metro: Last Light (just finished this one two days ago, Metro Redux has been in my backlog quite a while though... so I'm glad I managed to finished both games)
- Mirror's Edge: Catalyst
- Inside (PS4 version releases on the 23rd - can't wait!)

Most likely won't manage to complete Deus Ex: Mankind Divided this month.

[WiiU] Xenoblade X - in progress
[3DS] 7th Dragon III - Code: VFD - pending
[3DS] Zero Time Dilemma - pending

Xenoblade X - progress

Story Missions: 100%
Affinty Missions: 100%
All party member affinities maxed out
All Heart-to-hearts complete
1 normal mission left
216 Holofigures left to collect
532/749 Play Awards
12 Collepedia entries missing
Tons of basic missions left to do
3 characters at level 60
Mira completion rate: 97.23%

I'm not counting DLC stuff since I will probably have to wait for awhile before I can buy it all.

I'm going to try to beat the following this month:

DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue
To the Moon
Costume Quest 2
Ghostbusters (2016)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

This month gonna try for:

- Watchdogs

- Need for Speed

- Trials Fusion

- Forza 6

- The Walking Dead: Michonne

Watchdogs I'm restarting as my old save from my previous system apparently never saved in the cloud :( Need for Speed I think I'm about half way through, and Trials I just started last night.

UPDATE 1: Unexpectedly finished forza 6 last night so added to the list

UPDATE 2: Finished The Walking Dead: Michonne tonight. Not sure I'm actually going to get around to watchdogs this month heh

I finished XBLA Castlevania: Symphony of the Night last night. Amazing game, well-deserving of "classic" status.

Starting Thief Gold on PC today.

What's next will depend on how much time is left before the 23rd, when Deus Ex:MD comes out. Maybe Thief II or Far Cry 2, but I don't want to rush either. I've still got most of the Halo campaigns to catch up on, starting with Halo 2.

My three games is Fallout 4, Ratchet and Clank and Chrono Trigger.
In F4 I just want explore all places and then go for the main story, I think I completed more than 50% map
In R&C steady progress, I think a few planets left to complete main story, but I want find all bonuses and maximise all guns, and the last one is CT my second playtrough (first ways maybe ten years ago) now Im in fiendcastle, much love for this game ^^

Ashamed of last month's performance, I will endeavour to look forward, not backward.

This month:

God of War III (one hour in)
Until dawn
I am Setsuna

If I have time left, I am planning on buying and playing Star Ocean V.

My shame is that I didn't just not like ICO (which I wanted to finish last month), or even just hate it, but it actively burned me out. I probably won't be trying it again anytime soon.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

No Man's Sky

Only two games in August for me. Don't think finishing NMS in a month is an option though.

[WiiU] Xenoblade X - Finished
[3DS] 7th Dragon III - Code: VFD - pending
[3DS] Zero Time Dilemma - in progress

I think I'm tapping out on Xenoblade X.

Story Missions: 100%
Affinty Missions: 100%
All party member affinities maxed out
All Heart-to-hearts complete
All normal missions complete
Mira completion rate: 100%
Collepedia completed
All characters at level 60

191 Holofigures left to collect
567/749 Play Awards
Tons of basic missions left to do
special armor sets and Dolls to craft

I'll probably finish off the basic missions and craft everything but I don't think I have the patience to do all the play awards and get all the Holofigures. I'll try grabbing the online holofigures a couple times but if I don't get them I'll just take the L and move on. I can't imagine any scenario where I do all the play awards though.

Under Defeat HD was much better, than I expected. Fantastic shmup. Beat it twice.
Next is Grim Fandango R/VLR or...maybe I'll buy No Man's Sky.

3DS
Citizens of Earth

PS3
Devil May Cry 3

PS4
Grim Fandango Remastered

PSV
Virtue's Last Reward
Zero Time Dilemma

X360
Portal
Under Defeat HD

Quantum Break complete
Forza Horizon 2 - more than half way through
Gears of War 2 - going to start and finish this month

Hit the target last month (Yoshi's Woolly World, Mortal Kombat story, Street Fighter V story). Here's this month's target

Bloodborne - Finished the DLC and main game yesterday, just need to do a few more chalice dungeons for the Platinum.
Uncharted 4 - Beautiful looking game but its a little... Boring
undecided on a third

Persona 4 Golden: Just started it, going to take while
Metal Gear Solid V: Still need to do this
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. This one will be the easiest.

If I can do these three, I may add more later,

Gonna be finishing:

Uncharted 4
Final Fantasy 13 (at hour 42 so almost done)
No Man Sky
and maybe FF 13-2

Hyper light drifter: I'm in the final region I believe so should be able to finish it soon
Steam world heist: gonna play a ton while I'm traveling have no idea how much more game left though
Dead space: I'm loving this game first play through via gwg and bc on I'm on chapter 9 or 10
Deus ex man kind divided: doubt I'll get all the way through this one though I am taking some time off
Mega man x4 I'm half way through the 8 bosses but got stuck on a boss will give it another go on my trip
Klonoa : pretty close to the end but got annoyed with this long level will try to finish it off as well

Have two priorities this month:

-Borderlands

ABZU

After that to round out the month want to finish at least one, if not more, of the following:

-Pikmin 3

-Stick of Truth

Gravity Rush Remastered

-Forza 6 Porsche DLC

Got my three done for the month.

Started playing No Man's Sky today, and still playing on Pikmin 3
