Three in December: Decimate Your Backlog

The challenge is to finish three (or more) games in a month!

It doesn't matter how long or short the games are. And it doesn't matter if you're just starting a game or if you're already near the end. You should use your own judgment with what counts as finishing a game, since it can sometimes be fuzzy.

Please post your goals for the month, sharing your successes, setbacks and impressions as the month goes by.

How Long to Beat is a big help, as a guide to how much longer a game will take.

52 Games. 1 Year. 2016. is a thread for if you're looking for a bigger challenge.

I finished:
Final Fantasy XV: Finished on the 8th. It was pretty good, until the rushed/linear final third. Hopefully the post-game wins me back a bit.
The Last Guardian: Finished on the 10th. It's a wonderful adventure and will likely be second of my GOTY list, behind The Witness only for its troublesome controls.
We Become What We Behold: Finished on the 19th. It's a five-minute free game about the influence of the media. https://ncase.itch.io/wbwwb
King's Quest: Epilogue: Finished on the 25th. It was a short chapter, with some light adventure game puzzling.
Coming Out Simulator 2014: Finished on the 29th, also a game by ncase (along with We Become What We Behold). I started playing it because it was on Zoe Quinn's Top 10 'Year' games. The game can be played here: https://ncase.itch.io/coming-out-simulator-2014

I'll try for some of:
Bound: It's meant to be about 2 or 3 hours apparently. I played it for about 20 minutes and want to continue. The image quality looks amazing to me. I'm playing it without VR.
Dragon Quest VII: 3DS version. I am up to the final boss.
Resident Evil 2 (Leon B): I've met
Ada
. It's been a few weeks since I last played it though.

I'm gonna go for:

Dishonored 2 - loved the first one and I'm on Chapter 2 having just accepted my powers. Certainly has the feel of the first game but I'm still a bit hamgisted control wise. Love that the ability to quick save is in the console version as it just encourages trying things.

Gears of War IV - it's been my sunday morning game of choice for a while now and only getting to the end of Chapter 2 but it's standard Gears of War fare although I can't say I'm a fan of ANY of the new weapons.

Kathy Rain - have to start making my way through my Humble Bundle Monthly backlog some time right?

Completed my 3 last month. I'm realistically shooting only for my first pick due to game length.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
TLoZ: Twilight Princess
Shinobi 3

In dec I'll be playing FFXV, I beat Witcher 3 but have to go back and beat both expansions and I gotta finish Fallout 4. All 3 are massive games so idk if Ill finish all 3 in one month.

Well since I just got my PS4 on Cyber Monday gonna try to knock out the 4 games I got with it:

Titanfall 2 (Campaign)
Uncharted 4
AC: Syndicate
Bloodborne

Though I most likely wont finish Bloodborne in time.

Gonna try and complete this years Steam Autumn sale haul rather than just shove them straight into the backlog. Like usual.

Aiming to finishing those games I started in november, the holydays should help me, I barely had any time this last month.

Pokemon Sun: like 2 hours in after a whole week :(
Dishonored 2: got it at d1 and still on second chapter
Forza Horizon 3: basically what I played the whole month along with MWR, but I just drove around, I should complete more races lol
Modern Warfare Remastered: in Prypiat in my veteran run, that mission is really hard and I got sucked back in the multiplayer :(

I only completed Titanfall 2 (1000 G though) in november.

Alright, I'm half way through two games and I've just started another, so let's see how that pans out for me:

Mad Max - PS4
Very much enjoying this, although I can see the constant grind and distractions becoming tiresome at some point. About 8 hours in.

Slain - PS4
I'm about 90 minutes in, and have only beaten the first boss. Great game with an incredible art style.

Steamworld Heist - Vita
I've literally only played the first two missions, which are the tutorial. Like it a lot so far, and I don't typically have the patience or strategy for turn-based games. Beautiful visuals too.

The Last Guardian - PS4
I have this pre-ordered and will definitely try to play it all this month, as sometimes with highly-anticipated games I have a tendency to burn out and then not actually play much once I actually get the damn thing.

Bonus game:
Sly 2: Band of Thieves - Vita
I'm playing this with my daughter and may get around to finishing it this month if her attention holds. It's really good but we're only doing short segments before her bedtime so progress is slow.

Pokemon Sun
Steins;Gate 0
Final Fantasy XV
The Last Guardian

I'll finish Pokemon then dive straight into Steins;Gate, then after that I'll pick from the other two, will likely depend on GAF impressions which one I do first.

Will try and finish all four, really depends on the trophy lists of the latter two tbh. If they're fairly straightforward I might try and platinum them, but depending on how time consuming they are I might not have time for both this month. If the trophy lists suck I'll just do the main stories in which case I'll easily finish both.

After those four I'll be pretty set to write up my GOTY list too.

Uncharted 4
Ordered it online on Black Friday and I started playing it yesterday, I'm now in chapter six. Liking it quite a lot so far, will definitely play it through during this month.

The Last Guardian
This game is basically the reason I went ahead and bought a PS4 (Pro). I haven't pre-ordered it, but I'm definitely going to pick it up on release day. Can't wait!

DOOM
Another game I got on Black Friday. Have yet to start this, but I think I'll boot it up this weekend. Played the demo on PC and I liked what I saw, my PC just isn't that great so I decided to pick up the PS4 version which is apparently pretty good fortunately.

There are quite a lot of other games I plan on playing this month, but I guess those are the "big three" for me.

I've got a four-week break from uni coming up, so I'm hoping to at least finish my last two PS4 games. I'm also itching to replay the Mass Effect trilogy, so I doubt I'll have time for much else!

Uncharted 3 Remastered: I've already played it on PS3, but I really enjoyed playing through 1 and 2 again, so I'm looking forward to this. Shouldn't take much more than 7-8 hours to finish on normal difficulty.

Resident Evil HD (PS+) : Started playing this a few months ago, but I got distracted by work and BF1. I liked what I saw in my first couple of hours.

If I have time, I'll try to finish some PC games:
XCOM Enemy Unknown
Alien Isolation

Bought a lot of games in the last few weeks (holiday season truly is upon us). Now it is time to finish some games. My goals:

- Dead Rising (PS4)
- Rise of the Tomb Raider (PS4)
- Siren: Blood Curse (PS3)

It is really time I finally clear all my remaining PS3 titles. I've been playing games on that console since 2008. Now it's down to 5 titles.

I think I can do it, I'l go with those :

Fifa 17 : I started adventure mode 3 days ago
999 : I think I've made through half of the game
Inside : I bought it yesterday and I plan to play through it in one shot.

I don't think I'll have the time to beat Splatoon and Ratchet & Clank, but I'll probably play those a bit.

Aight okay...

Current:

ReCore

Backlog:

Ace Combat 4/5/0* if remastered
Undertale
SMT: Devil Survivor 2

In a way, I could clear out my ENTIRE backlog if I did that.

Maybe I should do so. I can't find my DS charger though.

You've clearly underestimated my backlog if you think I'm going to decimate it with three game completions, but my plan for winter holiday is:

FFXV
XCOM2 (revisit with all the widgets)
Uncharted 4

More likely: I just play more Civ 6 and SFV.

Final Fantasy XV - Only a few hours in and I already adore it.

The Last Guardian - Depends how long it is, but I'd like to complete this this year.

Pokémon Moon - 5 hours in, first island down.

Bonus:

Planetarian - Almost done with this.

Yokai Watch Busters - Will continue chipping away at this as a simpler experience - great game.

Let's see.......

- Final Fantasy XV - my copy should arrive today. Hype!!

- The Last Guardian - already pre-ordered. Starting the game as soon as I get my copy.

- Yakuza 5 - the perfect game for christmas

Bonus games as I would have more time in December. I'd probably pick a couple from this list:
- Heavenly Sword
- Ranko Tsukigime's Long Story
- FE Fates: Revelation
- Witcher 3

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (XBO) - About 17 hours in.
Dishonored 2 (XBO) - Starting chapter 2, 1 hour in.
Shenmue (DC) - Christmas game.

Watch_Dogs 2 - Avearge gameplay, boring story
Until Dawn - Gripping and Atmospheric Story but I hate the ending I got and I'm inclinded to replay it.
Batman: The Telltale Series

Lego Star Wars TFA
Twilight Princess HD
Super Mario 3D World - only missing Champions' Road (yeah it's not gonna happen)

Challenge accepted.

1. Pokemon Sun: catch the remaining
ultra beasts

2. Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition

3. Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix

Pokemon Moon:

Should be the easiest for me to finished this month as pretty far along.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst:

This will be the hardest. It is a long game and I've barely scratched the surface of it

Tales of Hearts Rs:

This game has been in my backlog a while. Still in the beginning stages but I feel I could beat it this month.

1. Watch Dogs 2
2. The Division
3. Ori & The Blind Forest

There is no chance I'll finish them in a month lol. I'm too slow but I'll do my best.

Ideally I'd like to finish:

  1. Pokémon Moon
  2. Final Fantasy XV
  3. Dragon Quest VII

That's going to be some serious work... I'm up for the challenge though.

Resident Evil Zero: I bought the Origins collection for PS4. It is the only older Resident Evil game I have been wanting to play ever since it came out. I already started a file and so far I'm in
the training facility after the train crash. I know what I have to do next but I've restarted a save file several times because herbs seem to be really sparse and I am trying to avoid getting any more hits (characters already in yellow caution) before proceeding to the part where Rebecca gets trapped by a monkey and Billy has to go save her.

So far I'm enjoying the game but the partner/A.I. system really bothers me. It's very intrusive and a huge discomfort. I have yet to encounter any puzzle or challenge where splitting up and switching between characters was required and enjoyable. Part of me is curious as to how far in I am.

Compared to Resident Evil 1 Remake, this game is falling very short, but even if it didn't have a partner system that I loathe I think matching the caliber of the first remake would be too difficult by any measure. That game is just too good.

I'm aiming to finish this game within the next week.

Final Fantasy Type-O: Another game I recently started, although this time I have not enjoyed much of anything I've played. Granted I am not very far in but I made a thread about the game recently and was told that I shouldn't expect much to change beyond the first hour and that the story actually gets worse. I only paid $20 for this game but in an effort to really tackle my backlog I am trying to finish anything and everything I bought, even if it turns out to be a chore. This is going to be one of the tougher games to complete, I feel.

Dishonored: Thrice is the rice. This is yet another game I had started but didn't complete. So far I've enjoyed the stealth sections but the controls and combat are quite clunky. I'm maybe two hours in where I have to infiltrate some castle and
poison a soldier's drink
.

Of the three aforementioned games, I'm looking forward to beating Resident Evil Zero first and foremost. I have a feeling that'll be the only game I end up thoroughly enjoying, followed by Dishonored in second and Final Fantasy Type-O in a very, VERY distant third.

Borderlands Pre Sequel
Last Guardian

We'll see about the third one. I have a few games to choose from. I'd really like to finish Dark Souls before the new year but I'm stuck on Smough and Ornstein.

Completed my 3 last month. I'm realistically shooting only for my first pick due to game length.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
TLoZ: Twilight Princess
Shinobi 3

Ahhh Shinobi III, that's a good choice. It's not too hard once you figure out the tricks to the game (particularly what Ninjutsu to use at what point)

As for me, I'm going to try to finish

Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
We Love Katamari (PS2)
Punch-Out!! (Wii)

I'm over halfway through FFVI, and Katamari and Punch-Out aren't too long, so I don't think it'll be much of a challenge. I also need to finish The Witness at some point too, but I don't think I'll have the time.

Last guardian, ffxv and smt4 apocalypse. Last guardian should be doable in a week, ffxv is probably a week as well and 2 weeks should be more than enough to beat smt. If considerable time is left, will try gravity rush as it doesn't seem long and the next game is due soon.

Last month, last chance to beat the final games for the 52 in a year challenge.

My goals for the month are:
  • Pokemon Sun (3DS)
  • Final Fantasy XV (PS4)
  • Bloodborne (PS4)

This month I'll definitely be going for:

Pokémon Sun
Pandora's Tower

Not sure what my third will be; possibly Ys 1.

After Pandora's Tower and Sun, I'll pretty much only have backlog games on my PS3 (both physical and PS1 classics), so I'm super hyped to finish them! :D

I'm in.

Uncharted 4 - started on Sunday, I think I'm at chapter 12 now.

Journey - I know this one's not long, but I want to make sure I get through it since I'm not 100% sure I'm going to re-up my PS+ in January.

Killzone: Mercenary - This is kind of cheating since I'm practically at the end anyway, but I need some motivation to finish it off.

Bonus: If I get through those (and I should), I want to tackle Where is My Heart? I'm about halfway through and it's been in my backlog for years.

Double Bonus: Going to tackle Metal Gear Solid V once I'm through with Uncharted. It seems pretty long though, so I don't know if I can get through it.

Triple Bonus: Going to see if I can finish the raid triumphs for Destiny: Rise of Iron.

Also going to keep playing through Persona 3 Portable, but I don't have any expectations of finishing it within the month.

Dishonored 2
The Last Guardian
FF15

These seem reasonable for the month. MY definition is completing the game and as many trophies as possible.

Once I'm finished with the JLPT on Sunday I plan to totally kick back with games and Blu rays for the rest month.

[WiiU]Xenoblade X - in progress
[3DS]7th Dragon III Code: VFD - in progress
[PS4]World of Final Fantasy - pending

I'm about 12 super weapons away from finally being done with Xenoblade X and being able to enjoy video games again.

I've a little ways into 7th Dragon but I should be able to polish it off when I go visit family in a few weeks.

Bought some games in the recent EU PSN Flashsale. I'll get those out of the way first instead of piling it on the backlog:

  • Bound
  • INSIDE
  • ABZĂ›
  • Grow Up
  • Shadow of the Beast
  • SOMA

I also might finally start on The Witcher 3.

Edit: LOL, I couldn't even beat one of these games... Let alone start W3. Oh well, new year's resolutions and all that.

Y̶a̶k̶u̶z̶a̶ ̶5̶ ̶
Broken Sword : The Sleeping Dragon
B̶i̶o̶S̶h̶o̶c̶k̶ ̶2̶ ̶-̶ ̶M̶i̶n̶e̶r̶v̶a̶'̶s̶ ̶D̶e̶n̶
A̶c̶t̶u̶a̶l̶ ̶S̶u̶n̶l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶
V̶i̶b̶ ̶R̶i̶b̶b̶o̶n̶

I'm 52 hours into Yakuza 5 so I should hopefully wrap that up within a couple of weeks.

50 hours later and I'm finally done with Yakuza 5.

I've just jumped in the ps4 wagon this week by buying a Pro, a 4K TV and 15 games (TLoU, Infamous SS, Heavy Rain/Beyond Two Souls, Ratchet and Clank, Until Dawn, Bloodborne, The Order: 1886, Dragon Quest Builders, Bound, Journey's Collector Edition (3 games), FFXV and pre-order The Last Guardian). Now I need to think how I'll handle this list before returning to college (I have 3 months). So my (minimum of) 3 games are:

- Final Fantasy XV
- The Last Guardian
- Some of the above (accepting advice).

Whoop, first post on gaf! I've been lurking these kinda threads for awhile

Goals:
  • SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked - should be done soon, I'm at the last day
    on Naoya's route, fighting belzaboul
. Really liking it, even if I've had a bit of trouble with certain battles. This is the first non-persona SMT game I've played and I'll definitely be playing others at some point.
  • Sword Coast Legends - not started this yet. I know it didn't get the best reception but I think it looks really cool, I do love my mid-tier WRPGs. Looking forward to starting it this weekend.
  • Tomb Raider definitive edition ?? - orrrr I might end up choosing something else, depends what I feel like after (hopefully) beating Sword Coast Legends. Not started this yet, got it yesterday as a birthday present.
I'm hopeful this is doable. I will have a lottt of uni work to do this month but at least I'll be getting a break from lectures. We'll see!

I am going to beat games from 2016 only till the end of January. Want to build my GOTY 2016 list.

PS4
Gravity Rush Remasterd
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Mirror's Edge: Catalyst

PSV
Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma

I already finished FFXV, and that's put me in the FF mood, so I might finally tackle XIII soon. After that, I'll probably play 999 (and possibly VLR after that).

PS4:
DOOM
Tales from the Borderlands

Vita:
Trails in the Sky

PC:
Hitman (play through the main missions once)
Age of Wonders 3 campaign

It's fucking happening so help me god. I've banned myself from buying new games until I put a dent in the backlog. Every three or four beaten, I can buy one.
