I'm trying to play through Dragon Quest VII and the latest Fire Emblem before the Switch comes out. That will be a pretty big challenge for me since I can't play 3DS for more than an hour and a half in a row without it bothering my eyes.
My main goal this year is to really go through some Final Fantasy games, and those will be time consuming. But I would also like to beat more games, and some I have put aside for a while. So this month I'll try get through Until Dawn and Oxenfree.
For January I have two main games I am confident I will beat: Dragon Quest Builders and Parasite Eve. For a third game... Gravity Rush would be a good choice. So maybe that?
Edit: Wait a second. I already beat The Last Guardian this month.

Theres no way you'll beat both those titles, let alone even one of them in less than a month. I recommend adding a shorter game or two while you work through the meatier RPGs.
Finish Yakuza 5, probably skipping out the platinum, way to much minigames for my taste.
Finish Dark Ids letsplay of Nier (doesnt really count, but whatever )
And chip away on the platinums of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5
Fallout 4 - Was about a quarter way through when I stopped last year around this time and I am shooting to run through all of the faction quests with the help of save reverting.
Axiom Verge - I think I am about half way through, but have been stuck for a month or so.
Nier - Only played the very beginning, want to get through this one before the new one comes out.
Take your time with Grim Fandango! Such a fantastic experience. Let that one simmer on the 'log if need be.
I've finished these two games this month:
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (3DS)
Pokemon is such a chill game, and always reminds me of a simpler time. This remake felt like an entirely new game, as I'd forgotten most of the original Sapphire. Great music and nice gym leader design. The introduction of
Delta episode
was a cool surprise. I'll go back to that when I'm in the mood for more (and if I haven't gotten stuck into Sun/Moon).
Steamworld Dig (Vita)
Great little platformer/roguelike. This type of game is perfect for Vita, and I blasted through while still feeling like I was satisfying my collector/trophy whore side. The concept of "digging" didn't appeal to me, but I couldn't resist nabbing this for 2 quid in the January sale. The controls are a little "floaty," but overall I really enjoyed it.
Still working on:
Mirror's Edge Catalyst (PS4)
Unravel (PS4)
I should be able to beat at least one of these before the month is over.
My new year resolution is to be more diligent when it comes to clearing the backlog before making big new purchases. 2017 is going to have some great games, but I feel like it'll be a good year to tackle the backlog. Already feeling refreshed from finishing those two above!
Over halfway through the month and finally got my first game done. I really had fun with Twilight Princess, I think it's a pretty good Zelda game. No way I'm going to complete it.
Up to Chapter 16 in Conquest, I'm making good progress, possibly because I'm running with a smaller party to focus that experience gain. I haven't actually started American Nightmare yet, but I know from a lot of people that it's really shot, I might knock it out on a weekend day.
Gears of War 4 (PC)
Inside (PS4)
Titanfall 2 (PS4)
Virginia (PS4)
The Walking Dead: Michonne (PC)
Finished Titanfall 2 yesterday, have my three for the month! But I'll still complete Michonne and Virginia this month, while starting either Final Fantasy XV or Watch Dogs 2 at some point as well.
I've beaten The Last Guardian, Dragon Quest Builders and Parasite Eve this month. Currently playing Baten Kaitos and Gravity Rush Remastered. Guessing I'll finish one of them too.
Posting an update. Finished two so far, I should finish number three tonight, and I should finish another by the end of the month. A great start for the year
#1 Fallout 4: completed Saturday, Jan. 14th. Full video review coming VMR - Five Minute Reviews soon! Time spent: 130hrs, almost 100% completion. Just missing the "Benevolent Leader" achievement.
Thoughts:full video review coming VMR - Five Minute Reviews soon!
A beautiful hand crafted journey through atmospheric post-apocolyptica. Fallout 4 was an absolutely amazing experience that I will never forget. The art style, the improved gameplay that actual makes Fallout 4 a viable shooter (and a good one at that), and the music are all magnificent. One of my favorites games of 2015! I started in 2015 when it released, played until May of 2016, and put it down until November of 2016, finishing it just this year (Jan. 2017). The reason I stopped playing is because I was enjoying it so much... I did not want it to end. I did the same thing with Skyrim. All good things must come to an end though . - Negatives:
Minor bugs and glitches (I did not experience any game breaking bugs, though I have heard other people have).
Awful ending to an otherwise interesting main quest story (no matter what faction you side with, they are all awful IMO).
Enemy Leveling (has been an issue with all Bethesda open world games; it is a little bit better in Fallout 4, but its still an issue. Some weapons feel woefully under-powered for the task at hand, even when fully upgraded).
Some minor framerate issues (played on XBOX One, dips into the lower 20's during high action moments).
+ Positives:
Massive, hand crafted, fun to explore world (filled with unique and memorable locations).
Amazing atmosphere.
Responsive and fun gameplay, making Fallout 4 a viable and good shooter.
Superb art style and presentation (this game has many beautiful moments, the lighting and weather system is one of the best I have experienced in a game so far).
Superb sound design (finally weapons sound like actual firearms instead of cap guns).
Excellent music (the 40's and 50's tunes from Fallout 3 return along with several new songs from the same period and the late 50's).
The side quests are superb (particularly the companion quests).
#2 Valiant Hearts: The Great War: completed Wednesday, Jan. 18th. Full video review coming VMR - Five Minute Reviews soon! Time spent: 9hrs, 100% completion including achievements.
Thoughts:full video review coming VMR - Five Minute Reviews soon!
Tears. Wow. What an amazing emotional experience. The game tells a very human and beautiful story while also focusing on the horrors of War (specifically... World War 1).
Honestly... Valiant Hearts was the most intense game I have ever played. It was more intense then Battlefield 1. It respected what took place during the great war. Even though it is a side scrolling game with cartoon like art style it is quite frequently horrific. The story, setting, and experience are far from cartoon like. With that said Valiant Hearts is a game everyone has to experience (I would not recommend this game to kids younger than 13).
I would not call Valiant Hearts a fun game (it does have its moments of fun though). The gameplay is very simplistic, and the level designs are basic. The gameplay and levels are pretty much there to push you through one horrific experience after the next. This is not supposed to be a "fun" game, as war is not supposed to be "fun." I think the devs designed it this way on purpose.
The value comes through experiencing the well written story... and never forgetting those who lost their lives during the Great War. - Negatives:
[WiiU]Star Fox Guard- finished [3DS]Petit Novel Series: Harvest December - in progress [3DS]Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice - in progress
Got paranoid about Nintendo shutting down the Wii U's online services so I decided to get out ahead and start doing all the necessary online stuff for 100%ing various games.
I won't be able to finish anything big this month but I should be able to 3 games anyway.
Star Fox Guard isn't really 100% complete but I have no control of the heat index so getting that last symbol is just luck at this point.
I haven't finished any of these. Instead I almost played through Dragon Age: Inquisition. I stopped after the tutorial when I bought the game. Now I only have the final mission and two of the three dlcs left. Playtime 84 hours so far.
I've managed to beat 10 games this month. I didn't get to Axiom Verge yet, and I haven't put much time in The Witcher 3: Heart of Stone, but I'm really happy with the result thus far. Especially with having beaten both SOMA and Fire Emblem Fates Birthright this month.
They were all fun games in their own right. Infamous looks crisp on Pro. Inside was something special. Kirby is the best its ever been.
Still playing through Dishonored 2, about half way done. Ive been exploring my backlog doing 1 hour sessions with each game to see what they have to offer (FFXV, Deus Ex, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir)
Conquest is done! I was really enjoying myself... until the Endgame part of the final chapter. That really was not fun at all, and in the mad bum rush to the final boss I lost four units. Oh well. It'll be a while before I touch Conquest, it took me a year to come back to Conquest after I beat Birthright afterall, lol.
In a sad twist my boyfriend's computer just up and died, so I can't play American Nightmare, unfortunately. The good news is I've already beaten... 8 games this month, so I've met the general goal of "beat three games", it's just not the games I originally set out to beat, haha.
So yay! I'll have to figure out what games I want to beat for next month, now.
I was successful last month, so let's see if I can do it again.
1. Persona 3 Portable - I got through so much of this game last month, I think with another week or so put into I I can polish off the whole thing.
2. Where Is My Heart? - I've been sitting on this game for years. Now is the time! Now!
3. Destiny: Rise of Iron - I have a feeling I'm not going to renew my PS Plus at the end of this month, so I'm going to try & finish the accomplishments for ROI that I haven't done yet. They're all based on group activities so it could be tricky to time, but I'll do my best.
So, I don't think Destiny is going to happen. Maybe I'll re-up for a month in August to get everything done before the deadline.
BUT! That's fine. Because I got sucked back into the game that has been the only one on my bucket list - Phantasy Star II. I dreamed of owning this game back in the day, always heard from Genesis fans that it was as good as or better than any Final Fantasy. But it's a serious grind, and after trying on Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, PS3 and iPad, I finally got the PSP version on Vita, which turned out to be the ideal platform for playing through it. It was hard at times, some of those dungeons are really punishing, and the last one took me about three days of grinding to get through. But in the end, I somehow got through the whole game from beginning to end inside the month, and the great beast
or brain, as the case may be
was slain. Whatever happens from here on out, I can one day retire from gaming knowing that my greatest mission is complete.
Speaking of missions, if I had another one it was to finally finish Where Is My Heart? This charming game has been staring at me on my backlog list since I bought it on the PS3 back in 2012. I felt legitimately bad, the characters are so cute that it's like they deserved to have their game finished. It's another game that's best played on Vita. I'll admit, I had to consult let's plays a couple of times, some of the puzzles are borderline cheating with how obtuse the solutions are. But for the most part it was all me, and when I finally reached that great tree in the sky, it was like a weight had lifted. I feel happy for the characters. Their hearts were found.
I also wound up finishing the original Sonic the Hedgehog - twice even, I went back and got all the chaos emeralds. Sadly, Obama did not chuckle in the true ending. Sonic had kind of been ruined for me by internet weirdos, but I have to say this game still holds up, I wasn't expecting to finish it but it really kept me glued to it until I was done. I'll probably tackle the second game at some point in the near future.
So, that's three games down, but I'm near the end of Persona 3 Portable, so I'm going to try & get that done before the deadline as well.
I've been trying to clear my backlog been on a rip
Stories: Path of Destinies, free PS plus game rather liked it
Divinity Original Sin: EE
Loved this game up until the end, had to figure out where I left a star stone but it turns out I had enough but I didn't open the rooms in my base, anyway finally beat the game, great combat system, tries to be a little too cute with the writing though
Dishonored 2: finally got to it after buying it on Black Friday and not taking it out the wrapper until close to christmas, excellent game would have been high on my GOTY list if id beaten it last year
Hitman: you can't really beat this but I want to clear the final mission then I'll consider it beaten
Sly Copper Thieves in Time: started this one in 2015! finally got it
GoW 4: need to go ahead and finish this one off as well
SM3D World: on the last world just need to finish it off
Yakuza 0: will probably take me till February to beat
Just finished RE7 and am looking to dig into my backlog before Breath of the Wild hits. Thought about doing FFXV or Dark Souls II, but I feel like there might be too much of an overlap with Zelda there, so I kinda want to do something different. But I can't decide on which game to start!
GAF, what should I play next?
Fallout: New Vegas, Far Cry 2 or Thief II: The Metal Age?

I've been trying to get through my rpg backlog so all month it's been FFXV and Bravely Default, got about 50h between the 2 but unlikely I'll actually get through them in January but feels good getting through them. Next month will definitely be a 3 game month.
Metro: 2033 Redux
Metro: Last Light Redux
Tomb Raider: DE
Yakuza 0
Before I buy RE7 in two weeks. Should be doable as they're all fairly linear SP games apart from Yakuza (I'll probably finish it in a month or two). Playing the former three on whatever the hardest difficulty is though for the platinum.
