Of course those stupid motherfuckers aren't going to put Fist of the North Star OVA on that fucking list. Let's face it, this list is shitty, probably even objectively. Seriously, fuck you Time, I'm never reading your piece of shit 'zine'-level tripe ever again.

Edit: Seriously, FUCK YOU Time Magazine. This is immediately going on my blog.

bahah

Awful list. Happy Feet is terrible(Surf's Up is better). Horton? Kung Fu Panda? no.

I would add Nightmare Before Christmas, Thief and the Cobbler, Prince of Egypt, Mononoke , Totoro, Ratatouille, Mary and Max etc.

Do you also have a twitter feed? I want to follow you.

I'm dead serious.

This.

Using an obscure system of weights and measures, TIME movie critic Richard Corliss has compiled and annotated the countdown

hey guys, my ass is an obscure system of weights and measures

People are ctrl-f-ing? It's a super short list that OP put right there all together.

I haven't seen the South Park movie, but I kind of find it hard to believe that it outranks Up of all things.

Oh well, at least Spirited Away made the list.

I have twitter, I never use it other than to follow a few "celebrities" and hackers.

I'm guessing it's placement comes from some kind of sentiment that Looney Tunes needs to be represented.
That's exactly what I'm thinking.

And I would argue that Land Before Time is objectively bad.

Anyone remember We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story? The scary circus scene in that movie gave me nightmares as a kid.

don bluth :x

oh great, people who totally misinterpreted Wall-E ITT now. I'm out. Had this discussion too many times.

Misinterpreted? No I did not, I had no problem with the message. I just thought that movie all around doesn't match up to the quality Pixar produced before and after.

Oh and Kung Fu Panda is in no way a good movie, just booooooring.

For me, personally, outside of the Disney 1937-42 run of masterpieces, feature film animations greatest moment was 1988 with the simultaneous releases of My Neighbour Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies. To see neither on the list is fucking scandalous.

But... It's Time magazine so whatever.
Why do the most high profile writers have the fucking shittiest taste?

No Grave of the Fireflies? Yeah, right.
How can a animation top list be without that movie is beyond me.

As far as Miyazaki's films, I'd give the nod to Porco Rosso.
Porco Rosso is amazing.
So is Totoro, Mononoke and Spirited Away.

List is invalidated without Aladdin.

Seriously.

Movie has A-game. Show for it owns all other shows based on the movie. Actually expands Aladdin's universe.

Love Howl so much. What do I have to do to get a BD release Ghibli/Disney? There's probably very little I wouldn't.

They are releasing Miyazaki movies in order on Blu-ray I think. So you'll probably be waiting a bit!

Which is strange, because I've definitely seen Howl on television in HD.

It's a cool movie and all, but it does belong anywhere near a real top 25 list. Although neither do most of the movies on this list, so whatever I guess.

Lion King at 18? Insta fail. That should be number 1.

Yeah, I usually don't bitch about lists but when I saw the King at 18, I honestly stopped reading it and went to the comments to look for this.

Also: No Shrek? But Kung-Fu Panda??? lulz

And, as much as I love Wallace and Gromit, the movie was not their finest hour.
Agreed, I feel like it's just an obligatory nod to British stop motion.

It's not a terrible list but it's lacking diversity. Jan Švankmajer (Alice), Richard Linklater (Scanner Darkly, Waking Life) and Don Bluth as mentioned (Rescuers, Bedknobs and Broomsticks)

The fact that only ONE ghibli movie made the list proves that it's shite.
At least they chose the right one?

It's people's way of admitting they just came in the thread to post about their favourite movie.

The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner movie is third??? It's barely even a movie, it's a compilation of Looney Tunes cartoons pieced together with some really shitty original work. Shouldn't even be on the list.
1000x this. Wtf.

Also, ask any animator working today and they'll say Iron Giant is a modern masterpiece. Why it's not on this list just shows what little research was done.

Don Bluth's movies aren't that great when you take off the nostalgia glasses. I don't think any of them hold up.

land before time holds up really well. i think it's his best film, and it could have been even better had spielberg not cut out a few minutes of it (although spielberg had many positive influences on the film as well).

-no magic for the sake of magic (nimh what the fuck)
-no singing for no reason (a little bit in nimh, a lot in basically everything else... although the horribly sung songs in an american tail are catchy as hell)
-the pacing is pretty solid. this wasn't a big issue in nimh, but it's a huge one in an american tail- especially with scenes just... ending
-tackles some pretty heavy stuff
-fucking excellent score
-great animation, beautiful backgrounds

Actually, there is no singing in NIMH. There is one vocal song (when Timmy takes his medicine) but none of the characters ever break into song.

Wow. I totally forgot about that movie. I watched that a bunch on rentals as a kid.

Edit: Howl is my favorite Miyazaki film! How is it mediocre?? The plot could've been fleshed out better, but it was a wonderful, beautiful tale despite that.

Disclaimer: I have yet to see Nausicaa.

oh. it's been a few years since i've seen it. i might be remembering the song at the end, i guess.

fake edit: actually, i think i'm mixing it up with all dogs go to heaven (aside from the alligator song).

real edit: no, it was the timmy thing. that was it. at least it made sense in nimh.
