I'm up to world 3 in Prune, and I'm not going to lie: this is one rad puzzle game. It took a lot of UI inspiration from Monument Valley, but they couldn't be more dissimilar otherwise. Lots of freedom to experiment with an ideal path and it's been doling out really cool setups that make full use of the mechanics and obstacles along the way.

Honestly, people hating on mobile games for getting critical and awards recognition over "real games" are on the same list of people who do the same for handheld games, and that list isn't fit to wipe my ass with.
Sorry prune doesn't have enough shillbots, cinematic aspirations, or marketing blitzes to get the attention of anyone here. It's one of those hipster games.

Neat list, and Prune is indeed quite a fun little game. Good to see Undertale and Her Story getting some love.

This is a horrible list. Rise of the Tomb Raider and Prune above fucking Witcher 3?! Nope. Nope.

No Bloodborne or Fallout 4 at all? JOKE

I like the Time list, both this year and last year, because it has a wide variety of games that show off the breadth of what the field has to offer, including games that don't have a lot of marketing money behind them. I'm glad it's not just a regurgitation of the most popular AAA titles.

Yes. It's a list that made me check out two games that totally went under my radar this year (and they look quite interesting).
I don't think there will be many other GOTY lists that'll manage to do that.

But I guess people rather complain about the list not having Bloodborne/Fallout/MGS/Witcher as the Top 4.

I'm not disagreeing, but have you played RotTR? I've heard it's actually quite amazing.

Just curious if you've played everything you are comparing.

Lol @ these types of threads. People getting upset and frustrated that the list doesn't perfectly mirror their own.

I think this is the same author that gave 80 Days game of the year last year. I don't think Prune deserves it, though it is a great game, but 80 Days totally did.

I know it's been mentioned in every other post but I just need to reiterate. NO BLOODBORNE!? Is the writer of this list a casual?

Can't be casual, Splatoon is the most hardcore, rage-inducing, violent, post-apocalyptic game to be released this year.

No Bloodborne.

Remember when Gone Home was one of the best games of 2013?
I think the poster's point was more that the selection of a smaller independent game over a big console exclusive triggered the same kinds of meltdowns we're seeing here, not that Gone Home was an illegitimate choice.

I'm sorry but I just can't take this list seriously. How in the name of all things holy is an iOS game better than Rise of the Tomb Raider and Fallout and even The Witcher 3? WTF?!?!?

Time = Casual

SOMEONE'S OPINION DIFFERS FROM MINE RAWRRRRRRRRRR THESE IDIOTS!!!! OMFG!!!

Most glaring omission is Bloodborne of course, but I have to check out Prune. Totally glossed over it at release. Good list overall.

I haven't played Prune, but judging by the concept and the gameplay I've seen, I can see why someone might find it really compelling. Sometimes games aren't just good by virtue of how much they're doing, but by how much mileage they can get out of doing very little.

I'd be curious to see what'd happen if the writer did top 5 lists for each platform, though.

I have no idea what Prune is but it seems like a decent, varied list. Good stuff there.

EDIT: My bad, I've seen Prune on the app store. Will add to my wishlist.

No complaints about the list. It's their list, not mine. Some questions though.

What the fuck is Prune

Is ROTR really that good? To be above Witcher 3 (the real my goty) and Bloodborne (as you can see the fanbase of it is...outspoken) speaks well of the game, but I haven't heard too much about it. Maybe because Fallout 4 overshadowed it? I'll definitely have to try both TR games when Rise drops on PS4.

The Witcher III certainly doesn't belong on that list, and Bloodborne does, but otherwise it's pretty solid.

It does.

I haven't played Witcher 3 yet (I'll be buying it during some black friday sale), but I'm pretty surprised to hear things like this. I thought it was pretty well received.

It's always the same with these threads. People coming into them and want validation for their opinions when instead they should be looking at these lists as a way to find games they might have missed.

It's fucking pathetic really.
