TimeSplitters Rewind in development (CryEngine 3, ex-Free Radical TimeSplitters devs)

Virus please! Me and a friend blew so much time going around every map in ts2 looking for good places to stand to fend off the bots.

This may lead to a fully-fledged Timesplitters game if a large community sprouts out of the game.

It's a smart business decision: let the fans resurrect the IP without you spending a single cent, and if they're successful, you just sweep in and profit, and if not, you haven't lost any money.

The only risk is if the final product is terrible and inadvertently and irreparably damages the brand. But given that this is just a multiplayer mode, and not something requiring a small fortune to fund, I don't believe that will be the case here.

Please tell me one of the bots will be Peekaboo Jones and Leo Krupps. Seriously, TimeSplitters1 and Timesplitters2 had the BEST bots. Uncountable amounts of laughs me and my brother had playing capture the bag and having the bots be absolute retards.

I just got really nostalgic thinking about both games now. :[

That was 90% of the appeal of the map maker for me and my friends. Building forts to defend against virused bots. Oh my god so much fun.

If this is being made by some of the original staff, consider me very interested. Black Mesa was one of my favorite releases last year, so a 'fan made' game is in no way a bad thing (and could be a good thing since they don't have to concede to any publisher demands).

Since this is on PC I hope they add some robustness to the map editor.
In the interview they say people can make their own levels in Sandbox (which comes with the CE3 SDK) so it'll be plenty robust. So robust I doubt I'll be smart enough to figure out how to use it.

Speaking of map maker, I remember in TS1 my bro made a map that had a giant pit in the center with no way out of it with terrible item spawns (I think TNT) and sure enough the bots would gravitate towards that cess pool. You would peek over the edge looking down and would see Teeth Mummy throwing TNT into the face of Mr. Big as he is stuck in place running into Teeth Mummy, eventually blowing both of them up.

Thank you

ok seriously, that is such a turn on...

who is she ? and from what show /movie ? i wana watch NAW

Isn't this essentially going or be a fan made game?

Eh. Very cautiously optimistic.

It's got ex-Free Radical devs pitching in too.

They basically said there wasn't enough interest to warrant an official release, so the greenlit this for anyone.

But yeah, stronger support from the main source than usual fan projects. Plus, fan projects lately have been superb.

Read the article in the OP, if you haven't already, as well.

This is great news. I was never a big FPS fan (still am not) but Timesplitters has always had a warm place in my heart.

Would love for this to hit consoles at some point. Day 1.

I wish it would be released on consoles too.. nonetheless I'm happy for Timesplitters.

Soooo all that Cryteck actually does in this is authorizing the use of the TS franchise and the use of their engine ?

In that case there's hope ...
