Tipping on a TO GO circumcision?

Dreams of a world where inflated review scores save studios
So last night I ordered a pick up order from Denny's after work and when I was paying for it the employee asks me if I wanted to leave a tip on the card. I was a little surprised by that question because why would I leave a tip for something that I just picked up. I always tip a server or the delivery guy but for a pick up order? C'mon man. I told him no and he kind of gave me the look and I just left with my food. Other places too it too for pick up orders but I usually just ignore it because there was no actual service done to me except making the food itself.

hell to the no.

worst is when they have tip jars at places where "to go" is the only option or they don't wait on you. fuck them.

if we start tipping on to go orders then employers won't think it's necessary to pay employees in those places and then we're obligated to do so, fuck that. don't set the precedent, y'all.

I have gotten tips before on pick ups. It is strange but then again this only happens when it is really busy or even when I am how I normally am. Grab the door for them on the way out help them out. Some times they throw me a few bucks.

Denny's charges for the tip when they run your card, that's why he asked. At most places they add the tip later. As far as tipping for pick up, you don't need to.

It depends on the place. I pick up pizza from this local joint fairly often, and they have a giant tip jar right on the counter. I'd feel like kind of a dick if I didn't drop a dollar or something in there, and I don't want them spitting in my food the next time I drop by.

But if it's not a regular spot, then hell no. I already paid for the food, which includes the preparation. I'm not gonna tip you just for taking my money.

That same POS machine is probably used to process debit/credit card orders for dine in orders so the tip option is programmed in. Just select no.

Edit: Oh wait, you were asked? Maybe it was force of habbit but yeah that's dumb.

I tip:
If I'm being served at a place, meaning order taken, order brought, and drinks refilled.
If food is delivered to me.

I do not tip:
If I stand in line to place my order, refill my own drink, or get food from a Buffet.
I put in a carryout/To Go order. That tip money went to the Gas I used up to get to the food.

You tip for service given to you by the wait staff, thats it. Nothing else but the cost of the order is required when you get a to-go meal.

I always feel weird when I pick up a pizza and there is a tip line on the bill. I feel obligated to at least put a dollar or something since the employee is standing over me, silently judging me. Gotta just pay with cash from now on, too much pressure.

One of the main reasons I order to go is so I don't have to tip.

So no. You should never tip a carryout order. Unless you're just feeling nice.

You can tip on a to go order, but if you don't its not a serious faux pas like not tipping a server or delivery person.

Dude, you need to raise your opinion of people. If you're a regular at a place, why the fuck would they ever spit in your food? They appreciate your regular business, man. They're not animals and barbarians.

Oh and, hell no, I wouldn't tip on a to go order!

I tipped last time I got take out since I ordered close to closing time, we had three entrees, and the waitress was friendly. *shrug* I don't normally though.

I take pleasure in putting a thick X Mark on the Tip Line in that situation. In fact, next time it comes up, I want to stare dead-eye at the Drive Thru employee while I do it.

Hahah yes! The same thing happened to me and my brother at Denny's , we were so stunned by the question. I was quilted into tipping smh. It must be the same guy OP, trying to quilt the world into tipping him. Jerk must be a millionaire by now.

The last time I got IHOP to go, I tipped. Seemed to make the lady's day, so I assume people usually don't do it.

I actually tip at places I take out often. There was a little thai place near my apartment in Chicago that always packed the food so nicely, and I got there early once and saw that it took them a while to do it.

Figured I'd toss a few bucks their way. And they're a super friendly family-run business.

You tip for service. Waiter waiting on you. Delivery man delivering your food. On pick up orders... there is no service. No tip.

There are shady people in the restaurant biz who try to screw customers for the max tips possible. Just ignore them.

When you think about it, you're the one doing them a service by requiring less attention than their other costumers.
If anything, they should be the ones tipping you.

I sometimes tip on To Go if it's a real restaurant and it's the person filling my order's ONLY responsibility. If I do, I only tip a dollar.
