Titanfall Hype

I feel like the hype has come back down to a more realistic level now.

It's not the fever pitch it was at earlier on in the year, which hopefully means people will find more fun in it. There's no way to save people, if they're expecting gold-dust.

My hype decreased after seeing some beta footage.

The infantry combat just looks like it has too low of a skill ceiling to keep me interested. TTK is way too low and the recoil is non-existant.

I'll wait until Beta to see how it plays for myself.

No hype from me, gonna wait a month or two to see how EA failed again. You can't trust them.

EA doesn't have as much control in the game. The contract was with the EA Partners program leaves creative control and ownership of the IP to Respawn.
EA just publishes the title.

CoD isn't a serious competitive fps?

And a question to the thread in general. If you're excited for Titanfall, are you a CoD fan? Or were you one who stopped playing?

I was a CoD fan until MW2..then things went south fast and I stopped playing that series. I can see the comparisons but after playing Titanfall I feel like its a very different beast. Definitely recaptures that one more match feel of CoD4.

After seeing the alpha footage I still don't get the hype. It really, truly does look like a COD mod or if COD went to the distant future like some rumors suggested a couple of years ago.

I still think it's mostly a combo of MS and EA's hype machines. Marketing can make people excited for just about anything if the campaign is designed intelligently enough.

Marketing can only push something so far. I've played the game and it's great. You can't market the feeling of actually controlling the game. Once it's in people's hands all that stuff falls apart if the core game doesn't play well. Which this game does.

It shouldn't be a mystery why this game is exciting everybody both CoD and BF have kinda worn out there welcomes. And after the shoddy versions both have released. A lot of people are ready to at least attempt to try something new. Titanfall is looking like it will fill that gap.

Best of all it literally has no competition for the next couple of months in terms of new FPS games. It has March to October all to itself.

There's always gonna be be hype about some new multiplayer FPS. In the end there's nothing really new, just a lot of people wanting to play multiplayer shooters.

Forgive me if a similar thread may have been created recently, but I wanted to get a few things off my chest. Titanfall is a game that's been making a lot of noise as of late, with multiple E3 awards and all manner of praise from gaming publications. I just don't see the real reason for the unanimous praise and enthusiasm for this title.

Why is everybody so excited about it?

so you are curious to know why people like things you don't?

I think it's mainly the fast parkur-style jumping.

Don't care that much about the mechs, but a more vertical fps game sounds fun.

Will there be a PC demo? No chance I'm going to be buying it unless I know I can get used to quic traversal on a keyboard. Unless there are seperate servers for controller users.

My keyboard control is dreadful.

Respawn didn't choose the Source engine in part for PS3 compatibility and then decide, all by themselves, "Hey, let's ditch Sony altogether."

They seemed quite upset when it went only MS.

I'm excited because I love the COD formula, but I'm bored of COD's repetitiveness. Titanfall looks like it will fill my tight little void nicely.

this is like the third or fourth of these threads

is there some kind of coordinated effort to deflate hype behind titanfall?

i'm incapable of understanding how a person's opinions can differ from mine, so i assume so

I would say it is one because of the huge market of players who are willing to watch it. Not on the merits of its gameplay. Do you disagree?

And I mean competitive in the sense that people compete playing it for money.
MLG has had cod in it's circuit since cod4

so yes, the cod pros do play for money

and titanfall is so hyped because it's a great game (I played it)

Anybody see the claims of it being a "COD Killer" and will eventually revolutionize FPS games for many years to come?

MW2 is even better than CoD4 imo, and the fact that some major MW2 players are behind this is partly was has me hyped. The most fun I ever had in that series was with all the crazy stuff that happened in that multi. Prefer the tighter singleplayer of CoD4 though despite some of the more exciting MW2 setpieces.

I thought it was already multi-platform? With Xbox One, PS4 and PC ports being announced.

TF is on PC, Xbone, and 360. No PS4.

I was more into jumping with rockets in my day, but it's a shame things aren't like that anymore. There have been a few games that have had parkour mechanics integrated into the gameplay.

Alright, I'm in the same boat as you then on CoD experience. After I stopped playing, purely because of gameplay reasons, I realized that I also dislike CoD because of the way they construct the game to be addictive. That one more match feeling. Did you ever feel that way?

This is probably the main reason I'm not interested in Titanfall, I know it's from the same people who invented/mastered that style of gameplay.

I realize that there are people who play CoD for money. I'm saying that mlg has CoD on the circuit because there are so many millions of people who buy/play CoD who will watch it. They don't have it because of the skill involved in playing it at a high level, like CS or Quake.

I could try it out once (if there was a way for me to do that without paying for LIVE or a PC copy of the game), but I just don't have the time for another multiplayer shooter. For me to devote time to Titanfall it would have to be literally better than TF2 or CS
(or NeoTokyo)
.

Do you have a source on that? Because afaik is the last gen-port not even done by Respawn.

360 version is done by Bluepoint. I imagine it would have been the same for the PS3. I don't think the last gen version is really on their priority list

It's just someone asking why people are excited for Titanfall, not saying people are wrong for being excited for Titanfall.

Its CoD for people tired of CoD but not tired of its gameplay

Good way of putting it. It seems like it's taking steps to differentiate itself from CoD while maintaining the core mechanics and alleviating some of the problems like Death Streaks.

I was more into jumping with rockets in my day, but it's a shame things aren't like that anymore. There have been a few games that have had parkour mechanics integrated into the gameplay.

There was a Rise of Triad game that came out recently which you should check out. Also the new Shadow Warrior. Quake Live to my knowledge is still well alive and kicking.

At this point, the detractors on GAF have been doing a better job of marketing Titanfall and increasing its mindshare than EA and Microsoft based on the weekly "Why are people excited?" threads and the overuse of the "Have you seen Titanfall?" meme.

You know the game was hyped to death before the alpha right? It was crowned the next CoD since it was reveladed. I'm glad playable impressions have been good, but even before that Titanfall was being lauded as the next gen game.

You know media has played this long before the alpha right? Link me any serious site that's already crowned this a CoD killer.

It's ridiculous how many people who aren't that interested in the game twist other people's impressions of "It's really fun!" in to "This is the greatest thing ever! It's the next revolution of FPS and will be the king of all popular games!!". You need to realize some people like things you don't like and that doesn't necessarily make it "artificial hype".

it'll be fun to not have to wade through hundreds of 'this game looks so boring why is anyone interested in it?' posts when titanfall 2 comes to ps4 as well

The game could honestly be anything.

I'm pumped because it's basically the first proper Infinity Ward game we've had since COD4:MW.

That gets me seriously freaking excited.

Don't care that much about the mechs, but a more vertical fps game sounds fun.

Back in the day where FPS games were mainly PC only, verticality was used a lot. Amusingly enough, one of the "revolutionary" aspects of Halo was limiting verticality, which aided controller play.

I think the speed of Titanfall would be fun with KBM.

Quake Live isn't extremely active, and for those that say it is, I'll tell you this: UT99 servers have more players than Quake Live.

I was the same as OP until my friends convinced me to queue for over 90 minutes to play it at an Expo last year. I was honestly blown away by how good it was and how polished it feels. Controls are tight and the jet pack/free run mechanic really changes the way you need to think about it compared to other shooters. I saw a number of players trying to camp in corners of rooms and hold position on rooftops, only to be overtaken by players jumping through windows and skylights.

My only concerns are around the levels being restricted to a single game mode each, although I'd hope they would have changed that by release.

When the beta hits in a couple weeks, it'll be interesting to see who's opinion changes. Actually playing the game solidified it for me as a must buy.

Didn't we hear from leakers or something that the 360 version actually looked pretty good?

Yes.

But even without their validation, the fact that Bluepoint is behind it should tell you you're getting a quality product. The AI stuff is all server-side, the visuals aren't terribly impressive, and we're talking 6vs6 players so 360 version should be quite awesome.

Quake Live isn't extremely active, and for those that say it is, I'll tell you this: UT99 servers have more players than Quake Live.

My mistake then. Last time I played was last year. Just assumed it was more active because it ditching the browser made news and I recall some fairly recent tournaments.
