TITANFALL the next Halo/Gears?

To those responding no to the OP, please look back at E3's in the past, and try and name one game that won Game of the Show awards left and right, and was so hyped, that didn't end up being a massive hit.

I await your responses.

I'm sure it could have been, but the forced hype is doing more damage than good.

Could you do me a favor and explain what "forced hype" is?

I thank MS for allowing a PC port, but at the same time they're fucking stupid for doing so.

They didn't allow it, they just didn't pay all of the dollars to buy full exclusivity. Or maybe Activision wouldn't even give them the option. Good show either way.

Waaaay more competition than when Halo and Gears launched. Destiny also seems like the more ambitious game.

TitanFall is hampered by only being on 3 platforms. One of which is the 360.

I meant sales figures. Did Halo 4 not sell well or something? Don't these games usually do 10mil give or take a million either way?

Yes it sold well, but most people dropped it as soon as BO2 came out. That wont happen in this game as much cause well, it looks like a better COD tbh. If anything, i fully expect this game to give COD a serious run for its money online.

If MS can find a way to keep this exclusive to them for a long time, i feel like this can be a saving grace for them. It will definitely sell consoles. I have no doubts about it.

Not without a single player campaign mode.
Ding ding ding ding!

That's the training ground, MP is the war, few will want to jump right into a war without a training ground, even fewer want to jump into the war at all, opting instead for the training ground.

Nope. No single player. It will only get half the sales it would with a single player mode too.

Does the COD crowd even care that much for single player in their military/war shooters though? I always got the impression that onine is all they cared about.

No, I feel like Halo and Gears are shooters with great stories. Thats what separates them from BF4, and COD. Im not saying thats good or bad, Im just saying thats a diving line I perceive to be there. TitanFall is going to be all MP. So I would say its more like BF4 or COD. Yeah, I know, Halo and Gears has MP but I personally go towards them for the story

Microsoft has decided to position it as such and they have the funds to make that level of marketing happen, so yeah it probably will be.

What?? No

COD will continue to be the powerhouse it is through next gen. TF will sell good because of the hype but 6 months from release when it's on all 3 systems, expect online numbers to even out or favor ps4 depending on if the game is actually fun.

Are there other options for multiplayer shooters around the release window for the xb1 that aren't battlefield or CoD?

I don't think it will have that large of an impact but I can see the game selling millions easily and getting sequels for the duration of the generation and probably even further beyond.

Hence why i said giving it "a run for its money". COD was MADE by these guys. I think they know a thing or two about making a online shooter successful.

Halo and Gears were built, at least partially, on the single player campaigns.

Titanfall doesn't have a single player campaign

It's not replacing anything.

edit: I think publishers are seriously underestimating how important single player campaigns are

I think he means when the media is a lot more impressed and vocal about a game than most gamers actually are.

The people who actually played it at E3 voted it Game of the Show.

I get the impression the only people not impressed by Titanfall are people who have no interest in shooters, or people who are mad it's not coming to the PS4 day one.

The game is going to have a single player esque experience, which will be good enough for most people. Have you ever looked at the leaderboards for a COD game on Xbox? 10 million + individual gamertags have played the game. There is a massive market for Titanfall.

I don't really see how. The XBONE isn't looking to have nearly the market penetration those consoles did, so unless it comes to PS4 it won't be able to have that kind of install base.

It'll be a very successful game though, and will be amazing to play on both PC and XBONE.

Gears didn't replace Halo. Although it's an fps and it has to share a spot. The genre could be an issue.

the majority here seems to hate it.

its gonna be huge

Majority seem to like it from what i see. Unless you count blatant trolling.

lol you know what, that's not far from the truth. Ive never seen so many people as in here so out of touch with what the casuals want to play. This game is definitely appealing to them and the COD crowd perfectly from what ive seen. It will be huge. Mark my words. Unless a major fuck up, HUGE.

I have no idea. I would think with all the buzz and press accolades that it would be a huge hit but so far it hasn't really penetrated the mainstream. Destiny has shown up in Amazon's Top 100 quite a bit but Titanfall has been a no-show. And right now it's charting lower than Knack. Knack!

Once that media machine fires up awareness will grow, but I don't think it being a huge hit is a done deal yet. Although I do think the whole multiplayer-only thing is being overblown. From reading the GI article it sounds like it's as much of a single player game as Destiny is, with narrative and characters and all that fun stuff. It's just mixing the modes together.

I could see Titanfall supplanting Gears, but not the old Halo

Multiplayer only is a tough sell, no matter what you say about CoD and other shooters. They all have campaigns and a ton of players never go online.

Most people still have a 360 or PC though, so i doubt it's that. For me personally, the graphics whore in me dislikes that it is based on the ageing source engine, and also think it looks to play too similar too cod in actual shooting, only with mechs and parkour. It could still be really fun though, minus being very graphically competent or having a SP campaign.

I like the way the game looks and plays, but it isn't a game meant for people like me. There's no campaign. Anything above free is too much for me.

*shrug*

It's possible. Who knows? There could be another game that does it. *shrug*

I'd put my money on Destiny being the big shooter this time.
