It's not hard to see why this happened. He had hit the point of no return and no matter what he did he would never look the way he wanted which is below. Also, probably not too great meeting girls and then having them gasp at your scars and stuff when the shirt comes off.

Crazy.

I gorged myself when my son was born and gained like 15 pounds over 6-7 months. And that's extreme.

But to gain 300 in 3-4 times that time?

Insanity.

I can kinda understand him.
All that extra flappy skin probably didn't help his self-confidence, so he reverted to his old habits when he was feeling down - eating.
But this article linked by another gaffer in the thread states:

In just two years, David lost an incredible 28st. At his lowest weight he was 16st 5lbs – after having 30lbs of loose flesh removed.

David says: “The surgery helped a lot. I went from looking like a deflated man to being almost normal. The only place they didn’t have to operate on was my forearms. I even had the skin that overhung my private area removed. The doctors and hospital donated the services, which cost $150,000 in total, as they were so impressed with what I’d achieved.”

I don't understand how his skin is holding up or if he even has feeling in it anymore. I mean the old skin was stretched and then a decent amount was removed. But now even more stretched? It's like blowing up a balloon that's been popped before.

Hi commentary actually points to something similar to Body Dysmorphic Disorder rather than just lack of self confidence from being fat/unsightly scars.

If that's the case, no amount of weight loss or fitness will help him. He would need some thorough psychological help to get through it.

There is a strict criteria for BDD. I don't see how this case can be defined as that when in all likelihood he just wanted to be normal. He had to be reminded of what he once was every time he saw his body in the mirror.

As someone who lost 100lbs in a year, and having been statistically obese his entire life up to that point, I can sympathize with him. You get so used to yourself that you start the hate the new you. You become disgusted by the extra skin, you start to beat yourself down every time you even crave something that is bad for you. Going to the beach or pool becomes even MORE embarrassing, because now you look like a wet pizza. It's horrible and was mentally tormenting. It takes an incredibly long time to get through it, but once you do it's just incredible. I now can't imagine myself ever being like that again, and people are in absolute awe when I tell them I once weighed over 250lbs in high school. I still have a ton of extra skin, but it has shrunk down so it's not as noticeable. What IS noticeable, however, are the stretch marks on my body that start at my calves and end at my armpit. I will always have a small "gut," no matter how much muscle I put on, because that's just extra skin that will never mold to anything ever again. I will also always have pointy boobs, and my nipples are the size of silver dollars.

Weight loss is a tremendously difficult thing to go through. For someone like him to drop that much weight in that short of a time, I am not surprised he rebounded so quickly. The mind is a terrible and wonderful place.

The truth? He couldn't get on that true, legit 'status'.

His mentality was, if you can't be great, why bother being good? So he dropped the dumbbells and went back to the donuts. Those abs, those traps, those pecs. He'll never have them.

I've lost around 115lbs, so it's really hard for me to think of what it's like to gain it all back. I was no where near this condition, but damn, that just makes it even harder.

As someone who's lost a bunch of weight, I've basically come to accept that I'll always have a body image problem. Even when I do hit my goal weight, I don't think I'll ever be completely happy with my appearance.

That said, I can't imagine putting all of it back on. That would be devastating beyond belief.

Damn, that can't be good for your body. :/

I really don't know how you can gain that much in such a short amount of time.

I wonder how much more his skin can take. It's always amazed me skin can stretch to those degrees in the first place but then to have some removed and do it again. Damn.

I don't get it though. How can he gain so quickly after losing that many?

Probably an endomorph.

He lost it once, he can do so again if he re-dedicates himself. Hope the best for him as someone who has done the obese-to-fit thing and still doing it

Yeah but last time he got free surgery worth $150,000 to get rid of excess skin. Doubt that will happen again.

The brain is a crazy thing.

Tell me about it.. His mind didn't let him stay where he was because he didn't think that was him... Fucking madness... But we can't say anything unless we were in his shoes.. This guy was probably already beyond repair after losing all that weight.

His girl isn't even bad looking at all.. Damn. Hopefully he really sticks to losing it all and stays there.

who seek to lose vast amounts of weight without first dealing with the underlying problems that led to their obesity.

I wish more of the people all, 'Just lose the weight. Its just some discipline. Its a simple decision,' would realize the truth in the quote above.

I would think him being 650 pounds would be more important than being a virgin. But I guess that got top billing too.

So sad to see. My inlaws are both heavy and had bypass surgery and lost a bunch of pounds. They've abused the system so much over the last two years they are heavier than at the presurgery wieght. Feel sorry for them and I dont care what the reason for the failure is.

That really sucks. Shame he wasn't paired with a counsellor or something during his weight loss to help him adjust with the huge change.

After having all that extra flesh removed isn't he at some sort of serious risk of his body not being able to cope with his regained weight? Or does skin just have the capacity to keep stretching?

The underlying problem that led to being 650 pounds? Everyone in the world has problems, why is it that this problem only happens in western countries?

I don't think it's a western country thing in terms of the psychology, western countries just make it easier due to economic status, availability of food, and "drive everywhere" nature of most US cities.
