You play basketball in sweatpants? Raquetball? Tennis? Go for long-distance runs in >80 degree weather? :lol

Well, like I said, I'm a man; so I don't play tennis, or raquetball. And if I am working out, and exercising, I kinda fell like sweating is part of the point. So, yeah. Sweatpants, or those thin running pants that button up along the seems. I forget what those are called.

Nothing is more manly than tennis.

It is a chance to showcase your skill in strength, speed, quickness, agility, x-ray vision, gamma radiation, and shape-shifting

A Tour de Force!

Breakaway pants or windbreaker pants I think.

Jesus, you're really serious? Where do you live?

:lol

in Northern CA when its 105 in the summer and you are wearing jeans you are a shitbag, how could anyone not wear shorts? Haters that have chicken legs need to get to the gym or start running ASAP.

nothing better than some shorts, sandals, and a t-shirt in the summer when its hot.

Really...

You know, I was thinking. GAF being GAF, there needs to be an official "I Hate" thread. It'd not only clear up some space by centralizing the hate, but it'd also provide hours of entertainment. Make it so.

I don't think I've ever met somebody who had issues with men wearing shorts. I honestly never knew it was an issue to some until now.

I've met a few weirdos who only wear jeans, even during the summer when it can get into the upper 90's and humid as fuck, but that's it.

Fuck you. Flip-flops are the most comfortable foot wear ever. I usually wear mine until it starts to snow.

Do you really want to shoot me? :(

And me too! I thought we were buds... ;[

If it makes you feel any better I wear nice shoes when it's more formal. ;[

Shorts on men when not a required part of an athletic activity look fucking stupid.

If heat is an issue, linen/pincord/seersucker pants allow you to stay cool without looking like you are stuck in elementary school. Pants made from those fabrics will probably be cooler than shorts made from the standard fabrics as well.

Athletic activities get a pass of course, because it's all about performance, not appearance.

This!
Sandals are awesome, I wear mine all the time. "Oh noes, they can see my toes, I must not be a real man!"

I don't wear sandals

I wear khaki capris. I'm not gay, and I don't look gay. I also wear other types of shorts, but those are the best I have. Comfortable, and they don't show off my white legs too much. I get complimented by women all the time and they even have sex with me.

What fucking country or state are you from where you feel it is not socially acceptable to wear shorts. In North Carolina in the summer everyone wears shorts when it is hot as hell. I actually wear shorts more than I do jeans over an entire year.

Seeing guys wearing pants like that on a hot humid day for anything less than a semi formal occasion makes them look like an uptight douchebag. Or that they're hiding something.

No way, no way, no way, no way. Nothing beats the feeling of a cool breeze going up your shorts on a hot sweaty day.:D

I live in Miami, and I wear jeans and closed shoes year round.

That said, I don't hate on shorts. I just find them unnecessary.

And yes, I wear long pants for everything.

Except swimming.

In the summer, athletic shorts and a t-shirt or for formal stuff/dates, cargo shorts like this w/ a collared, striped shirt:

This thread is stupid. Expecting men to wear women's clothing? The fuck?

This is how I roll.

I have those exact shorts on right now. :lol

I have no idea. But the more tan your legs are, the less you'll notice patchy leg hair.

Last year at school I passed out one night and my friends decided to take an electric shaver to my legs and take out random chunks of hair. But I sailed a lot so my legs were tan and leg hairs bleached by the sun and people could barely tell unless they looked closely.

But seriously dude, nobody gives a fuck what your leg hair looks like. If you're too self conscious about it to wear shorts then just shave your legs and if people ask tell them you are on a swim team or something.

...what are we supposed to wear in hot climates? A kilt? Parachute pants? A nice pencil skirt?

Did you notice that people living in hot climates do NOT wear shorts ?

Like for example :

tourists : wearing shorts
locals : wearing trousers

I wear 3/4 shorts in the summer (hell I'm wearing them right now). My only dilemma is what to wear shoe wise. I'm going to get some flip flops but I also need a pair of sneakers that don't look retarded under a pair of shorts, which seems like an impossible mission.

Are you a bit dim? Their born into a hot climate, they live in a hot climate all their life, their ancestors lived in hot climate. It is hot for YOU, to them it is not. Ever been to England or the like and been like WTF and put on shitloads of clothing, and u walk out and the locals have just been in tshirts?

I wore shorts exclusively until I was 17 or 18 years old, my last year of high school. I then went through a transitional phase when I graduated - my entire college career I wore nothing but jeans, blue jeans at that. I had shorts, mostly cargo that I would wear to the beach, but that wasn't common... definitely didn't wear them to school or work more than once or twice. I just graduated college, so it's been 5 years of jeans almost exclusively. It's odd that I switched like that and I can't really pinpoint the reasoning.

I have short legs, like 28 length if not a bit shorter (which in turns makes most my jeans a tiny bit baggy). Wearing jeans for so long has also paled my legs which are also super hairy, back in High School people use to comment on my leg manes. I'd like to sort of transition back to wearing shorts more but it's difficult.

I live in South Florida so the heat is a big issue - jeans are still common though.

EDIT: At the same time I've also went from wearing strictly boxers to sleep to wearing pajama pants.

It's not only a question of being used to the heat (I don't think that Africans would feel cold wearing shorts when it's 30°C). Even people who are not locals but are used to travel there know that light covering clothes are a better protection against the heat than clothes exposing most of your body : long ample clothes block the sun, and keep a layer of "fresh" air between you and the hot air outside.
My step brother is used to the climate of northern Europe, but when he flies to Benin for his work he just laughs at tourists wearing shorts...

^^

Direct sun on skin = bad.

Clothes too tight, no internal air circulation = bad.

The best option for clothes in really hot environments is light loose clothes that cover your entire body. Look at Bedouin robes for example.

Direct sun on your skin causes direct heating. Direct sun on your clothes causes the same amount of heating, but your clothes have more surface area for air cooling. Ideally you want the clothes to block most of the radiant heat, so you are only being heated by the clothes where they contact your skin, which with loose clothing should only be a few spots.

If your clothes are blocking a large percentage of the radiant heat, but are still allowing enough air circulation for sweat to evaporate, you won't get as hot as if you had less clothing on with the sun hitting your skin directly.

I immediately get the mental picture of wow player. I went to Miami and it was fucking hot. Beach wear on the street = 100% acceptable.

I have no objection to a man wearing tight shorts. I don't know why you think GAF hates tight shorts. Tight shorts are good and guys look good in tight shorts.
Tag quote, etc etc.

I don't like wearin shorts myself. In the warmest of warm, I always wear jeans.

unless you're coming from or going to some kind of sports-related activity, you shouldn't wear short pants. it's in the bible.

the part on sandals is a bit ambiguous, but don't wear those either, please.

shorts are great. i've got a couple of pairs from ralph lauren, and a couple from lacoste that i rock in my rotation when it's sunny in kentucky/wv. i'm moving to minneapolis soon, though, so maybe considerably less short-wearing for me.

can't say i condone the cargo shorts anymore though. i guess if you need the room to smuggle econopacks of twizzlers and your neo geo pocket into the movie theater then they serve their purpose.

I live in NorCal (it's been gorgeous the past few days) and I can't live without wearing shorts. I do have my fair share of business casual pants, I practically live in my jeans year -round, but for the spring/summer/fall seasons, I usually wear shorts.

I mostly have cargo shorts, but I do have a couple pairs of plain-front shorts as well as a few pairs of 3/4 pants (or capris whatever) that I've gotten at H&M. For the warm months, I'll usually go with comfort & functionality and shorts do provide them.

And to all the haters, I also wear flip-flops (Reef, Rainbow, & Havaianas) with my shorts. :D
