Nomura is one of the most painful examples of becoming a better artist with age who also develops a worse design aesthetic with age.

I dig his art for Dissidia, though, probably his best imo.

His art is getting really oudated though, in a very obvious "anime" style that looked good in the games but now with better graphics everything looks awkward and jaded in the psuedo-realistic renders of the Final Fantasy characters. Maybe it's just me but Lighting looks more like a real person cosplaying as a Nomura character rather than a Nomura character.

To be honest I think the next FF installment should have a different art direction. Hell, Square-Enix has it in their department, a slew of artists like Amano and Yoshida who'd love to do character designs for the series; and no I don't want something like this to happen in a main FF game:
