Tom Clancy's Future Soldier. Any Hype?

GRAW 2 was one of my favorite games (extremely underrated...but still what the 1st game should've been) so looking forward to this.

I enjoyed conviction as well (got it on sale)

I wish they'd ditch the heavy HUD and went back to a more realistic take on war. I feel like I'm playing geometry wars with all the yellow/red triangles on screen. No hype from me. Still interested in how it turns out in case the co-op is good, but I'm not holding out hope.

Anything that harkens back to GRAW1 will be good enough for me. Bringing back 8-16 player co-op would be awesome enough for me to get hyped.

Same, as far as I'm concerned they're going in the exact opposite direction I'd like them to.

Could be good. The stage demo reminded me of Ghost in the Shell at times. If it can retain what was good about Ghost Recon 1 and 2, then I'll be all over this. I didn't really dig Advanced Warfighter because it seemed as if it didn't possess the depth of the original Ghost Recon games. I haven't played either AW game too much, though.

they need to lock the devs in a room and force them to play OGR (Original Ghost Recon) on XBOX for an entire day, I played it 2 days ago on my 360, it's BC and has held up well over the years. Brilliant game all-around.

I've chatted with the devs from GR2 all the way up to GRAW2 over the years, for the most part they have been good people who want to do right by the community, but in the end they have all been misguided and ignorant to what made Ghost Recon an acclaimed and profitable franchise last-gen.

..man, someone should buy that damn license and make a good HD GitS game( and by someone I mean DICE )

After playing Mirror's Edge, I agree completely. It would be amazing if we could have a shooter that controls as well as that game with some tight gun-play. Brink seems to step into that direction a bit, but I haven't played it, so I can't comment.

They think they're mimicking the HUD of a fighter jet. If anything it's going to get worse.

I've always imagined someone like Red Storm making a tactical GitS game.

Still waiting on that beta they promised with Conviction...

Yep.

I had a enormous hype for this game, especially after the E3 demo, but with the most recent delay, it was killed.

I talked to some of the Red Storm guys in line at Moe's:

One of them said they couldn't talk about the release of the game but it was 'soonish' - apparently they are doing the multiplayer while Ubisoft Paris is doing the singleplayer.

So again they are putting two completely different games on the same disc...

Somebody said in the other thread said this has been Convictioned (thrown away and started again), as Ubi have removed any videos of it from their Youtube channel, and edited out any reference to it in their E3 video.

Who knows.

They should lock all developers of any game type in a room really. There are developers that needs to learn about accessibility and to put options that are convenient for the players not a hindrance.

Accessibility, practicality, and game balance.

May not be such a bad thing.

GRAW1+2 multi (co-op) > GRAW1+2 single player
Absolutely. If they started with GRAW 1 and 2 co-op, fleshed it out and built a campaign around it I'd be excited.

But after playing Splinter Cell Conviction I don't have much hope for anything Tom Clancy related.

Who knows.

I've also heard this from more than one person on the official forums and on GR.net

Oh, I understand why they're doing it of course, F-22 on legs and whatnot, it's just that I find it ironic that while trying to be realistic (because I understand warfare is moving towards that goal in the future) it just makes it look... well... gamey, you know? Instead of being able to spot enemies, there's a hud pointing them out. And instead of shooting at human shapes, you're just shooting at rhombs. Again, I know it's intentional, it's just off-putting for me. Kind of wish they'd split the franchise in two: future soldier and good old ghost recon.

Do we even have gamplay footage of the game? I remember Game Informer release detail about it which was not positive at all and then it kind of faded out of exsistance.

I think there was a horrible (in my opinion) walkthough demo this past E3. Two ghosts arrived at a beach (or it seemed like a beach, not sure) and cleaned up a small group of enemies.
Beaten by Neuromancer. There you go.

Actually, I remember the quote they kept throwing out there was 'F-16 on legs' which I thought was kind of funny since the F-16 was first conceived about 40 years ago.

Oh wow... I just started typing up a response brimming with vitriol before realizing I am still bitter about this franchise!

I will take me leave from this thread before my blood pressure boils into an aneurysm.

I'll only say that hearing RSE is still involved with this game depresses me.

The worst thing about that playthrough is the optical camo thing. It demands a lot of the player to believe that an enemy could realistically look straight at a distortion of reality and not react. There is nothing that attracts attention like something that looks off, which this would certainly qualify as. At long range, sure, but it's hard to buy what they are doing here.

Hah, yeah, you're right. :P

Thanks for the footages. The idea is sound but the execution (judging by the footage) is just all over the place. I mean, Why woud they move in so stealthy way if the are invicible?

But again that is just a preview build, so lets see what they are preparing for this franchise.

I'm excited for it. The E3 footage was stellar.

I hope the multiplayer is bad ass. It's one of my most anticipated for 2011, so hopefully it lives up to the hype in my head.

Yeah, I just watched the footage. It's silly to see these guys take cover and move slow sometimes and walk straight passed them at other times. I don't get it, it seems very overpowered. I feel as though it should have a limit and run out. I want to love FS I just need it to be balanced and make sense.

Invisibility should limit the player movement so that it's impossible to run while cloaked, it should be on a timer (with a cooldown) and should be easily disrupted by physical force (i.e. being shot, hit) or water/light (i.e. being hit by a steam of light or a laser sight). It's cool that it allows the player to literally be invisible, but I think it's just to much to allow it to move at whatever speed while using it.

Then again that's the least of my worries to be honest. The idea that the whole game is probably going to be designed around being able to become invisible is such a turn off.

I loved the gameplay reveal and the art style looks tight. I actually hope the PC version is the same as the console version rather than a ghetto attempt to make the console content work in the GR1 framework. Should look excellent at 1080p 60fps.

That was gameplay? Sure fooled me.

The crazy thing is that when they finally go back to the original idea of Ghost Recon, which is that of controlling an unseen force that tips the balance through sabotage and clandestine operations, they do it with the help of invisibility-suits. It's like they are trying to make me hate them.

A very small update of sorts:

From the game's official facebook page: "There has been some speculation that the beta has been cancelled. The beta is absolutely still on the schedule and we will be sure to give you further details when we get closer to it. Thanks for your patience!"

Hopefully they still keep their target 60fps performance from the E3 demo. Not enough 60fps shooters nowadays. :)
