Its very pretty, so you'll love it.I never got around to playing the new Tomb Raider game after vigorously defending it from pre-launch criticism lol.
Is it a good game and good reboot?
It worked for Harry Potter (yer a Wizard, Harry) and Superman (yer a El, Kal).If you're going to try to explain why your video game protagonist is a superhero, you better do it well. "She's a Croft," is not a good explanation. It was all best left unexplored.
I haven't reached the end of Tomb Raider yet. Do they say that the Croft bloodline is a magic one?It worked for Harry Potter (yer a Wizard, Harry) and Superman (yer a El, Kal).
An origin isn't always that someone gains the ability to do something, it can also be about what someone does once they learn they have the abilities already.

These are pretty big spoilers, but the Crofts are actually magical aliens that can instantly become combat experts just by touching a weapon by encoding the memory of its previous users into their genetic code. This causes them to become increasingly violent and unhinged as they absorb the personalities of killers.I haven't reached the end of Tomb Raider yet. Yup, hope DICE get her back for Mirrors Edge 2.

oh god I haven't had a laugh that hard in a while lol
The "survival" aspect was more about the story than the actual gameplay. You want limited ammo, play TLoU on the harder difficulties.
The entire crazy super fast jump from weak girl to the T-850 master of all skills was absolutely hilarious. and it's pretty sad because the "story" was their excuse to not do this crap yet they screwed, now a sequels will be the just like Shanty town and onward. (aka Horde Raider)
The only time I ran out of ammo was farming the deers for salvage to max all the weapons.
I expected things like a hunger meter or some shit, but it is a total third person shooter with some puzzles here and there....
Way different from something like Tomb Raider Anniversary.
Mystery? You mean the one that was extremely obvious within the first few hours but Lara didn't figure out until the room right before the final boss in a "plot twist" that made my eyes roll out of their sockets?Well, let's get the positive responses out of the way before the hate brigade comes.
Awesome, sounds great that they're sticking to the tone of the first one. I hope they keep the mystery and feeling of unveiling the island's secrets layer by layer intact, even though they're "going globe trotting" this time.
Can't wait.
*leaves thread*
Oh man Tomb Raider with TLoU's combat would've been spectacular. The "survival" aspect was more about the story than the actual gameplay. You want limited ammo, play TLoU on the harder difficulties.
If you mean the new one... Yes
Edit: Well the old ones too. But the new one tries to tell a good story and fails. The old ones were trying to tell a story to make a good game and not a good story.
What's the best pre-reboot, post-PS1, Tomb Raider? In case Steam puts them on sale again.
I want to raid tombs.
A couple of themdo and get shot by the more violent or controlled cult members. Plus none of the cultmembers are there by choice. Generalizing them as "insane murderers" is bad writing, especially considering how much higher Lara's murder count is.
It's bad writing. Either don't have that kind of stuff or have the characters react to it better. Lara shouldn't instantly go to not caring that she's killing hundreds of people or the people shouldn't be given a reason to sympathize with them. Imagine if in Raiders of the Lost Ark Indy comes across a group of Nazis. While hiding in the shadows he overhears them talking about how they disagree with what they're doing and are only there to feed their families. Then Indy comes up behind them and snaps their necks. Or what if in Temple of Doom Indy kills a group of children in the mine who had been brainwashed by the cult like he was but justifies it by saying they were "insane murderers".
They expected more, doesn't mean they will shut Lara to the same vault Chrono is in. It DID manage to sell 3,5 million copies, no matter if that's less than they wanted, that's still great sales and they do understand that. Why are they making a sequel if 3.5mil copies isn't good enough anymore?
Got damnUnfortunately for Rhianna Pratchett, writing talent is not genetic.
It's bad writing because apart from a few exceptions like Mathias and the Russains the game says cult members are forced to do the cult's bidding and Lara never acknowledges that. She dismisses them as insane murderers near the start and that's the end of her moral dilemma. It's also poor writing because despite whatever they say cult members will just devolve into the generic AI when alerted. No matter what personality they displayed, alerting them causes them to grow mustaches to twirl. The cult evenEverything you're saying is ridiculous.Throughout the ENTIRE game these men are trying to killer her and relishing it in their dialogue and their actions. A couple of them voice concern and dissatisfaction, showing how fanatical the cultists are and because they get killed it's bad writing? Sorry, but that's actually good writing because they decided not to make all of them mustache twirling bad guys.

A guy wanted to kill her in revenge for her killing his brother, but Mathias tells him to stop and he does. Lara later shoots that guy in the back of the head with an arrow.
the writing in the Tomb Raider game is so natural and believable and convincing, you really feel LaraÂ’s pain and struggle.
The story was fine. I don't get what's so offensive about it. Lara crashes on a haunted island and does the impossible to save her friends. It's a simple story that gives you some
amazing moments and Lara is a star. She's easy to like and cheer for.
I mean, for an action game, the story works.
By most game standards the story was fine. But when a game is marketed the way Tomb Raider was and the developers are telling us how deep the story is supposed to be, it's all the more of a joke when the story turns out to be so mediocre. Mediocre storytelling in games is nothing new. I don't even have a problem with it. But when a game is advertised to have a supposedly deep story and I'm apparantly supposed to really care about this supposed vulnerable Lara, then you better fucking deliver. They didn't. The writing was no more of a joke in TR than it is in a lot of other games. The difference is that most games don't try to pretend the writing is anything special the way TR did.
Alex: Lara you must go take the screwdriver :cthe writing in the Tomb Raider game is so natural and believable and convincing, you really feel LaraÂ’s pain and struggle. A lot of that is pure Rhianna.
Wait,OK, I'm done here.so the guy who wants to kill Lara but is ordered to stop spared her life?
Alex: Lara you must go take the screwdriver :c
Lara: No....
Alex: Do it
Lara: Okay
Lara: Alex
Then proceed to never mention Alex again for the rest of the game
He wanted to kill her because she killed his brother and a few hundred of his friends. Mathias ordered him to stop and he did. Lara shoots him in the back of the head while he's not even looking. His death doesn't acknowledge his status as a named character at all.

Lara: I got the screwdriver and wrench you needed.
Reyes: That's okay, I already found some. Turns out a beach full of shipwrecks has a ton of tools just laying around!
Lara: ...
