Toonami + DBZ was pure hype

I know, right?

I remember Toonami having the Ocean dub, which, if I remember right, stopped shortly after Goku arrived on Namek - which was a horrible cocktease because then Toonami would go back to the start again because they ran out of episodes. Finally hearing that Toonami was going to air the rest of the Namek saga was like goddamn Christmas.

Yeah, I remember expecting a new episode and then for them to only restart. First time that happened it was heart breaking lol.

Yeah, Toonami was great in the '90s and early '00s.

I was fortunate to record and save a lot of that stuff from back in the day and I've shared a bunch of it on private sharing sites for other fans to enjoy. A lot of the footage you see on YouTube came from my personal tapes. /brag

I am the prince of all saiyans once again.

Till Vegeta got his ass kicked by 18.

Americans and their love for the shitty American dub's soundtrack that sounds like it was made by a guy with half a day of experience on Fruityloops will never not amaze me.

The worst part? The soundtrack never goes away. EVERYTHING has to have background music, nothing can be silent. Not just music either, they fucked up Gohan's SSJ2 tranformation too by adding both music and inner dialogue.

Seriously, compare the shitty dub vs. the original and tell me which is more powerful.

"I feel it flipping" gtfo.

I made the Super thread blow up when I said that the song that plays when Gohan transforms in the original Japanese version is corny. I still think it is.

Which is more powerful? The ace narrator explaining the build up to that moment. Not the woman singing.

For real, during this time I was in middle school and after I had watched the final episode that the original dub made I'd hope that he next day it'd be new episodes. I had no idea why they did not continue and each time it restarted I'd be sad.

When I started seeing the commercials and stuff on Toonami for the new stuff I couldn't have been more pumped. I'd run home from school every day, catch the end of Sailor Moon and watch the new episodes.

The dub, easily.

Did they ever show the final episodes of the Cell Games Saga? I remember they would always show reruns all the way back to the Android Saga right after the episode where Gohan turned SSJ2.

the music in the original shits on falconer

but falconer's might be better than the bland, forgettable shit that is the Super score. ugh.

The dub and it's not close - the vocal track does not hold up well today. If the vocals were removed, the original would actually have been pretty cool.

Toonami is currently airing the Android Saga of DBZ Kai. It's safe to assume they'll air the Cell Games Saga since the ratings are so good.

LOL what the hell, the JP version sounds so corny, bad and completely out of place.

This reminds me that Outlaw Star exists. Probably one of the more underrated anime out there.

The original sub is ruined by Gokus voice. Its more cringe inducing than almost anything in the dub.

Can't say the Faulconer score does it for me anymore, but those intros were hype.

Also, what is this nonsense I'm witnessing about the dub's generic-ass power-up music being better than Spirit vs. Spirit?!?

Ahh Nostalgia... When I got home from school, when I was a kid, Toonami would just start and I would sit there with my eyes glued to the TV. DBZ took priority over homework at the time.

I don't think you're going to convince anyone that grew up with the dub that the original is better in this case. I grew up with the dub and I just can't see how the original is more powerful.

Nah. you get used to it really quick and on average the acting is way better for all the characters.

The japanese music is way better too although I can see how people how grew up with the US version might think it's better just because they watched it when they were exactly in the right 14-16 year-old demographic for generic buttrock like that.

The US dub and music are pretty much indefensible without nostaliga glasses.

Just to reiterate: TOONAMI IS STILL AROUND

It's airing on Adult Swim every Saturday. The current line up is:
DBZ Kai
Dimension W
Parasyte
Samurai Champloo
Naruto Shippuden (in filler)
One Piece (starting Thriller Bark this Saturday)
Kill la Kill (reruns)

New episodes of Samurai Jack will be coming to Toonami later this year.

Toonami died when it stopped being daily imhf

Adult Swim with the nightly anime replaced it but that died too

It's so jarring to be linked to videos of the original Dub, the kai dub may have some odd changes but as a whole it's so much better.

So when is Toonami gonna start airing Dragon Ball Super?

Probably not for a long while. The rumor (completely unsubstantiated, btw) is that they are going to air Buu Kai finally when they get to that point.

There were only two types of kids in the 90s:

Ones that watched DBZ and liars!

"Majin Buu is so much stronger than anyone I've fought before, but I still know there's a way to win!

--If you don't our entire universe is gonna die!
--DON'T LET HIM WIN!!!"

One wonders if Super doesn't get poached from them before that by one of the streaming groups.

OMG, you are absolutely right. The sub is way better.... said no one with good taste.

Seriously, I am sure you could find a better example than that. I mean the sub version literally made me laugh in the middle of work. My god, I feel bad for you because you were probably all proud at finding the perfect example. All I can say to you is, I pity you.
Talk about bad taste.

I am not mocking you for liking the sub, but i mocking you because you are trying to project your horrible taste onto us, which is something I hate.
