Top 10 Characters of 2015 (Game Trailers)

So what? Even with those complaints, she still has by the most interesting character story arc in the game, she's one of the few good things about that TPP.

Jumping on the bandwagon of her sexualisation is a rather tired and boring argument.
Her character and character arcs are bad even beyond the sexualization, which also actively harms her character arc, too.
If she's the best character in mgsv (Miller has a more interesting arc in my opinion) it's only because everyone else is a cardboard cutout in that game.
The worst mgs I've played in that department.

Really not a fan of this list, couldn't stand Chloe and why is Quiet on there at all? Surprised not to see Nick Valentine and Max on there.

So I haven't played Life is Strange but I've been watching the Giant Bomb guys play it, and is there a point that Chloe becomes tolerable?
Wheelchair Chloe wasn't bad, but that didn't last very long.
Almost every time she opens her mouth I cringe.

I said this very thing in the OT. She only becomes bearable at the very end of the game.

She kinda ruined the game for me, but the final two chapters have very little Chloe so those were the best.

I don't think I care for a single person on that list, sans...Sans. Although I haven't played The Witcher yet. No one from Tales From the Borderlands is..shocking? Or maybe it's not, I don't think it'll get any love in GOTY discussion.

Telltale games have gotten pretty stale for a lot of people and Borderlands itself probably turn some people off. I only tried it because I was bored and the first episode was free on PS4. Wound up loving the hell out of it though. Some great characters in it.

Surprised Chumbucket wasn't on the list. He was an interesting character because his one strength is also his biggest weakness. His dedication and obsession with building and upgrading the "Magnum Opus". Not going to spoil anything for those who haven't played it but there were quite a few times throughout the story where I admired the guy, and even a few times I despised him a little throughout the game. The ending inparticular really left me not knowing what to think overall about him.

His character was probably the biggest pleaseant surprise of the year for me! Have to admit, I think about half of the GT list is a bit shit.

So... What game is that?

Even if she had a good character arc, everything about her is undercut by the cheap, childish sexualization.
she's one of the few good things about that TPP.
Not a ringing endorsement. A polished turd of a character among other turds is still a turd.
Jumping on the bandwagon of her sexualisation is a rather tired and boring argument.
No bandwagon. I gave her and Kojima a chance.

You know what?
The top 9 list are BS
Why Detective Jenks isn't #1 or #1-7 is beyond me, Gametrailers be full of shit

Everyone knows Queen Emily from Until Dawn should be number 1.

I'm joking. Or am I?

You bloody better be - I'd heard, prior to playing Until Dawn myself, about there being a character everyone hated at the beginning but grew to respect/like towards the end and I immediately assumed it was Emily. Surprised (but in no way disappointed) she flat-out remained one of my least-favoured characters of any game this year. Shame none of the female characters really stood out enough for me, but at the very least I didn't outright 'hate' any of the others.

I think Mike was probably the one character I came out of UD actually liking/respecting because he started out looking like your atypical douche/jock but found himself dealing with all the shit the game threw at him, and I liked his character development because of it. Not sure whether that constitutes a spot on Top 10 characters of this year, but it's commendable at the very least.

Mike was great and my favorite, but I definitely loved Emily on my second play through when I got to the moment in that .gif the other guy posted. Best moment in the game. I hate Ashley.

Are you kidding?? She was a total bitch the whole game

Of course I'm joking when I said Emily (though I do like her more than most). Now Sam, Sam is a genuinely good character.

Oh okay, it's just complaints about her outfit, not as a character, her abilities showcased, or her character arc.
All of these have been highlighted as poor by various people.

Besides, you don't get to just ignore part of her character design that's literally shoved in your face.

I like Quiet. Her relationship with Venom is similar to what Ocelot's once was with Naked. It's cool that she, like the rest of Diamond Dogs, admires Venom for the man he is, more so than she does the legend itself. She only expresses her love for Venom after a maximum bond is achieved and certain story requirements are met, which I found pretty rewarding. I went into MGSV with an open mind, but I don't think she was the antithesis to female characters in fighting games that Kojima had suggested she would be. Quite frankly, I would have preferred if we had never been given a reason for her appearance in game. Because that part is what really soured me on her, given we have other characters with photosynthetic abilities. But with that said, I really came around to her after Episode 45, and ended up appreciating her more than just about every other character in the game, when it was all said and done.

I regret ending Emily's arc early because her terribleness at least made for fun drama. Mike has an itchy trigger finger.

Based Chloe. She went from obnoxious to one of the most sympathetic characters in a game. Ashly Burch did an amazing job voicing her character.

I know they can't just make it Witcher 3: The List, but characters like Piper and Quiet, and no Geralt? I think Roach "The Stupidest Horse in the World" could have beat a few on the list.

It's about new characters so Geralt doesn't qualify. I'm disappointed no one mentioned the ghost of Vlodimir von Everec yet.

Not having Miku from Starlight Stage as your number one choice. SMH. GameTrailers more like LameTrailers amirite.

Really. No idea.

It's truly a veritable mystery.

This is the same type of shit people kept pushing with the old Lara Croft. It's like some of you can't get past appearance for even a second to consider a characters other traits. Yes, she looks fucking stupid, but that wasn't all there was to her in the game. Not to mention none of your posts have mentioned any other reason but her sexualized design.

I can understand how design plays a big part in how you view a character. If a cool black character looked like a walking stereotype, I'd have a hard time getting past that aspect of him, but I wouldn't flat out ignore everything else

It's painfully obvious that Quiet was created to be a fanservice lathered, wish-fulfillment doll for the player/main character, and then the character arc was put on top of her afterwards. That probably detracts from it quite a bit.

Not sure how her development history of her character changes anything...

Agreed. It's low hanging fruit.

I like Quiet.

Not as painful as this statement. You could pretty much take out all the fanservice with that character and she's still largely be the same.

Not sure why Ciri topped it. She really is a Mary Sue time lord by the time the game occurs and the huge threat against her
gets solo'd by Geralt. That's more how poorly The Wild Hunt was handled though
. The most interesting thing about her is her relationship with Geralt. Yennefer or Gaunter (especially Gaunter) would have been much better choices.

While I like Eileen there isn't that much to her outside that baller design. Gehrman is the closest thing BB has to a fully developed character that you can actually interact with. Badass older women don't come around too often though so I can see wanting to squeeze Eileen in.

No Papyrus is an outrage

Comparing Quiet to Lara Croft is laughably silly.

Anyways, do I need to be more explicit? She is a terrible part of MGSV, from her cheap sexualized design to her poor character arc. It feels like Quiet is meant to say something interesting about nakedness. But she never does. Although that could be extrapolated to the whole game: trying to say something insightful about a host of weighty topics and failing.

Yes, you'd still a poor character.

Bloody Baron should be on the list. Quiet... probably not.

I guess it couldn't be Witcher 3: The List, but man... it had some good characters. Man of Glass and Olgierd's brother Vlodimir could be on there too. And Kiera. Actually fucking Kiera Metz should be on there.

Fucking just make Witcher 3: "These characters are better than all the rest, so fuck other games" list

Her story isn't even good, it's so incredibly contrived. She's an assassin sent to kill BB at the beginning of the game, gets set on fire, which conveniently only burns her lungs specifically, which get replaced by deus ex machinas called nanoma--I mean parasites. This means that she can't talk or else she'll kill BB, who she admires because she saved his ass when he almost got himself killed trying to take down a jet. So now she sits there and hums, because even tho she has no lungs her deus ex machinas can do anything the writer says they can so she can actually talk. Buuuutttt, as the game goes on she doesn't write shit down, or use sign language even after becoming cooperative and going on missions with Venom Snake. Incredibly gross sexualization is the tip of the iceberg for the nonsense that went into that character. She's just like, the epitome of everything wrong with women in games to the point that it's honestly astounding.

Not really but if you're gonna be an asshole and put words in my mouth, sure.
You mentioned taking the sexualization out. It would make her less gross, but it wouldn't change what a terribly written character she is.
