Toronto-Gaf: Do you care about the PAN AM games?

Meh... I'll probably check out a few events but the ppl freaking out about traffic are annoying as fuck. I do appreciate in a cynical way that the city finally got off their asses to do the work to beautify and make general improvements to the city that they wouldn't bother with otherwise. So I'll take that.

Overall, I've long had a feeling that this is headed for a disaster because most Torontonians don't really care for off-brand lower tier shit and this is pretty much what the panam games are. There's no marquee athletes or competitions so why would anyone care?

I hope it goes well but I highly doubt it and it'll probably won't be fondly remembered.

Couldn't care if I tried. Then again I didn't give any shits about fifa except for the final and in the whole of olympics only really cared for the 100m dash.

The funny thing is that this is basically the last part of Miller's legacy as Mayor of Toronto. Such a whimper, it seems.

Maybe it would have went better if the last 4 years the city hadn't been run by a crackhead.

Pretty low-rent opener.

And it's not even as incompetent as the FIFA WC Brazil opener.

Stupid Cirque du Soleil and your overall professionalism,

So where's Wayne Gretzky and his pickup truck?!

edit: That's it!? The flame's just gonna chill there for 20 minutes?

edit edit: There are literally only like three people watching this on GAF right? Oh man.

It's all relative. People in Markham think Newmarket is the boonies. People in Newmarket think Barrie is the boonies. And so on and so forth.

And someone who grew up in a hick farming town and worked the fields before moving to the GTA think they are alll crazy.

You don't know what "bumfuck nowhere" is unless your childhood home backed onto a corn field. :P

It's nice out in Toronto, we could redeem Gretzky here lol.... It'll probably be Clara Hughes.... That's my guess

It's too bad. There's a lot to see outside of the core, including a ton of green space downtown with the ravine system that few seem to notice.

I know, I've looked at some maps of the place, but most of the time I just don't want to go out by myself.

I could barely muster a click and response to this topic. That's how much I care but my voice must be heard.

I'm volunteering. Lots of people were there at the synchronized swimming events at UTSC TPASC. A lot of Americans showed up and fans from Brazil and Mexico

Unfortunately a lot of big named athletes aren't participating which takes a hit on the games also tickets are pretty expensive for some events. No Usain Bolt, no Andrew Wiggins, no Michael Phelps, no Gabby Douglas, Wimbledon means that it's likely that not many of the big name tennis players will show up etc..

Other events people just don't care to pay for. I love the UTSC pan am centre though.

Wanted to see men and women's 100m but $75 a pop and won''t be seeing many of the big named runners means that i'll likely pass. Also the Soccer games are all the way in Hamilton -__-

No.

But I don't care about any sports events.
Not FIFA, not Olympics, not DOTA Tournaments and certainly not the PAN AM games.

EDIT: WTF is with the mascot looking like a Sonic friend?

That's the old mascot, this is the current one:

went and watched the opening show for Pan AM.. definitely felt Olympics like - great feels (got free tickets for it)

However, I am worried about ticket sales and traffic in Toronto

I was previously unaware or indifferent towards Pan AM here.. but now taking a closer look at events.
