Trailer for Alan Wake's Return hidden inside Quantum Break.

If you’ve played any of Remedy’s previous games—Max Payne, Alan Wake—you know the studio is fond of creating fake TV shows that play off the story in a weird give-and-take. In Alan Wake, for instance, episodes of Twilight Zone-inspired show Night Springs often foreshadow events in the game.
This was different, though. There was just a lone TV in a tent, adjacent to the protestors. I clicked it on and...wait, is that Alan Wake?

If this is real and Alan Wake Returns happens, I will be a very happy Panda man. Alan Wake is one of my favorite games of the last console cycle.

Didn't you make the "Pokemon Sun and Moon leaked" thread?

Glass houses, throwing stones, etc..

GAF needs some solid guidelines on how specific a thread title can be when talking about unrevealed titles/content.

How is that even close to comparable?

How is the leak of the content of an announcement trailer of a game comparable to the... leak of the content/existence of an announcement trailer of a game?

Are you serious? It's not just "close," it's almost the exact same thing.

How about common sense?

If people seemed to have any, yeah, that'd work.

There's no reason the thread title couldn't have been, for example:
"Remedy's next project revealed in Quantum Break easter egg."

Gotta have those clickbait titles to rack up your non-existant NeoGAF post points, though!

Oh, I didn't know I could buy Nintendo Direct and play it on my 3DS. Good to know!

So then it's ok to leak things that would be revealed for free compared to reveals wrapped in a product you have to purchase?

Do you even know what side of this you're trying to argue? You're just...saying words.

I'm arguing for the side not to spoil content from a game.

So they are spoiling stealth game announcements themselves now?

SMH.

...He said, displaying a hilarious lack of self-awareness.

Anyway, this would have been a great moment to stumble upon as individuals, and I don't bother with Twitter and social media or any of that, anyway.
It's a shame people would rather be "the one to announce something" rather than let people experience surprise and wonder.

So is it a game or are they trolling? Microsoft certainly doesn't seem to like having a clear message for their shit, jesus.

And the "content" is the reveal of the existence of an in-development title.

How can you not see the parallel here?

The "content" is, as with every Remedy game, finding a TV that shows you whatever they created for it. Seeing a trailer for Alan Wake Returns instead of a fake TV show would have been a surprise. A surprise that now has been ruined for those who were going to play the game.

Therein lies the difference.

The "content" is, as with every Nintendo Direct, watching a video that shows you whatever they created for it. Seeing a trailer for Pokemon Sun/Moon instead of information about previously announced titles would have been a surprise. A surprise that now has been ruined for those who were going to watch the Direct.

Therein lies how they're almost exactly the same.

See how that works?
Nintendo Directs are all about new information. They are, by design, supposed to contain surprises as a "first look" "expose" delivery system.

Yours and Nibel's stance seems to boil down to "This is different because one personally affects me more." and "It's different when I do it."

... AW Returns was trademarked as well.
In the case of Pokemon, it was just the notion of "they haven't announced the next gen yet, but we know it's coming".
With the AW Returns trademark, we didn't know at the time if it was set in stone or not; just because something gets trademarked doesn't mean it is guaranteed to come out or even be worked on.

See how that works?

Your logic boils down to "This is different because one personally affects me more."

child please, did you pay for the Nintendo direct or something?

but I see that you just wanted to shit on Nibels so imma let you cook

Dismissive condescension when backed into a corner?
Attempting to pass the spotlight/hotseat to another poster?
Complete inability to pattern-match or draw parallels?
Calling someone a child and then lashing out with pop slang?

Oh man, this post has everything.

A Nintendo Direct comparison to a game that you will have to pay for to see said reveal is where the difference between both "leaks" is.

The Nintendo Direct didn't spoil a portion of something that's in the game.

What can I say, I know how to keep my posts fresh without using flawed comparisons to other threads.

I think there's just a hidden ARG involving Alan Wake inside the game.

I don't think this is some elaborate game reveal (though I do think Alan Wake 2 will happen).

Why register a trademark and website then?

Quantum Break has a TV series, since this is all involving live-actors to my knowledge, I bet the trademark is for whatever episode this is all filming for. That'd be my guess, sort of like how Alan Wake had the prequel Bright Falls series, except the episode is inside of the game itself.

Thanks for ruining the surprise with the thread title, but I'm not expecting this to be related to an actual game, but rather a fake TV show within the game much like Lords and Ladies and Address Unknown in the Max Payne games or Night Springs in Alan Wake.

Edit:
Why register a trademark and website then?

Holy shit, that's a great point. Maybe this is for an actual sequel after all. Makes the spoiling sting even more. >(
