Trailers that made you think "I have to get this game".

I Am Alive

This is the only trailer that I can really think of that I had that "OMG I need this game" moment.

I'm still holding hopes that we'll see some actual gameplay of it some time soon.

No More Heroes (the editing, premise, music, and even the placeholder voice acting all contributed to my wanting to get a Wii to play it; I was disappointed when the trailer in the US version replaced Steel Python with Beam Katana Chronicles, which took away much of the original impact), MGS2, and ZOE2 are the main ones that come to mind at the moment.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot to mention the DMC3 trailer. I'll throw in a vote for that one as well.

Recently, Final Fantasy Type 0 for the PSP.

Elder Scrolls Skyrim too, despite my generally horrific experience with BethesdaGlitches&Bugs(tm)

This trailer for Fez.

Blew my fricking my mind the first time I saw it. I remember thinking while it was still in 2D, "Huh, yeah, this game looks pretty cool. Nothing special though."

And then he rotated the world.

This trailer is from 2008. I have been pining for this game for a while now. :(

I would have bought 3 copies by now.

No shit. End of thread.

'What if you miss?"

"I WONT."

Nothing else has ever screamed BADASS like that line.

My favorite lines:

"- we're asking you to retarget the orbiters!"

"- and let more them sweep the killzone?? That's insanity! There's nothing more I can do!"

These lines relayed the drama playing out on the surface intensely - it was so palpable to me at the time.

The Halo series voicework is so top-notch. Bungie knows sci-fi.

Uh, not that it matters what I think, but I personally hate when trailers like the Mad World Gears of War trailer, and the Dante's Inferno (Aint No sunshine when shes gone) trailer come out.

It's a bad ass bloody game, its dark, its violent, but oh look its got a melodic soft and beautiful song. How touching, how artful, how deep.

I find it insulting. Yet I see people on forums eat it up, use it as arguments that games should be considered art. If you want to show that games should be considered art, go find some artful gameplay (Theres plenty of it, imo). Don't play some soft 90's emo rock song over a bad ass trailer and call it beautiful, it totally doesn't fit. And not in a cool clashing best of both worlds kind of way. Just a weird, awkward, silly kind of way.

It reminds me of what I used to see on youtube in 4th grade when people would take their favorite song and put it over some completely conflicting image on youtube and call it a "music video". I've seen more Kingdom Hearts/The Fray mash ups than any human should ever have to be subjected to.

My favorite trailers are like the ones for the upcoming Dark Souls, and the Legend of Zelda e3 trailers. (The Twilight Princess reveal was the most epic thing ever). Stuff that will get you pumped for a reason. That stuff is awesome.

I like you, sir. Exactly my thoughts for many a trailer. Screams "man-child with editing software", case in point that Mad World Gears trailer.

Mother fugging Trackmania 2 man. I play the free version now, and after seeing the trailer decided NOT to buy the upgrade for Nations forever, just so that when I buy TM2 all of the extra modes options and features would be fresh and brand damn new.

Yes, their trailer for the sequel cost them a sale of their current game.

The Dead or Alive Ultimate 2 trailer made me buy the game, and by extension a PS2. It wasn't the boobs that did it though... it was the fact that you could kick a guy out of the level, then jump down and continue kicking ass.

I was a big fan of Tekken Tag Tourney at the time and DOAU2 just looked like too much fun to pass up. I didn't end up liking the mechanics but DOA is still a lot of fun just for the dynamic environments and ridiculous falls.

While it definitely wasn't able to come close to capturing the deep feel of that trailer, I do like the GoW series as a dumb shooter.

"Deep feel"?

Wow.

All I see is a pretentious piece of shit that in no way represents the game nor anything it attempts to conceive.

And it's even worse that they bring down such a great song.
