Trailers that made you think "I have to get this game".

Any Metal Gear Trailer.

I remember furiously trying to download multi part grainy shakey cam video files of the MGS2:SOL trailer over my 56k modem, freaking out over each section of the video that had finished downloading. I wonder what site that was, maybe videogames.com?

Love that SONY snuck that trailer as a secret code on one of their playstation underground CDs. Really the trailers for MGS2 and 3 were so good, couldn't wait to play the games.

MGS4 E3 2007 trailer
fallout 3 E3 2008 trailer
Onimusha 3 trailer
2nd God of War 3 trailer
I still haven't played it yet. not enough $ :(
Devil may cry 3 trailer
MGS3 TGS trailer
Original E3 Killzone 2 trailer. The real time one was more of a just "haters owned" thing for me than anything. The Killzone 2 trailer sold me on both the PS3 and Killzone.

Uh, not that it matters what I think, but I personally hate when trailers like the Mad World Gears of War trailer, and the Dante's Inferno (Aint No sunshine when shes gone) trailer come out.

It's a bad ass bloody game, its dark, its violent, but oh look its got a melodic soft and beautiful song. How touching, how artful, how deep.

I find it insulting. Yet I see people on forums eat it up, use it as arguments that games should be considered art. If you want to show that games should be considered art, go find some artful gameplay (Theres plenty of it, imo). Don't play some soft 90's emo rock song over a bad ass trailer and call it beautiful, it totally doesn't fit. And not in a cool clashing best of both worlds kind of way. Just a weird, awkward, silly kind of way.

It reminds me of what I used to see on youtube in 4th grade when people would take their favorite song and put it over some completely conflicting image on youtube and call it a "music video". I've seen more Kingdom Hearts/The Fray mash ups than any human should ever have to be subjected to.

My favorite trailers are like the ones for the upcoming Dark Souls, and the Legend of Zelda e3 trailers. (The Twilight Princess reveal was the most epic thing ever). Stuff that will get you pumped for a reason. That stuff is awesome.
The Mad World trailer was fine. It hinted at a bleak tale of humanity's downfall and struggle for survival. The game just never lived up to it.

The Starhawk reveal trailer made me go from slight interest to painful longing.

Fucking amazing trailer. Not a single bullshot in it, either.

It's almost better than the game. Not bashing TW2 (it's great), but this trailer basically packs everything cool that happens in the game in a 3 min timeframe. It's like concentrated awesome.

Devil May Cry 1
Devil May Cry 3
MGS3
FFX
MGS4

DMC1 in particular. It completely captivated me. Drew me in to the atmosphere and gameplay it displayed. I swear to god it almost felt like the game was calling out to me the first time I saw the trailer...

The Halo 3 commercials that played with the figurines in stillness until you see Master Chief move at the end.

That sparked me to buy a 360 and go out to get Halo 3 as well.

...only for me to not even be able to finish the first level! :D

The first level is quite hard for the beginning, since you're thrown right into the middle of the mission and have to do a lot of sneaking; it's much better (and easier) later on.

Red Dead Redemption "My Name is John Marston" trailer

Probably the biggest "holy fuck" gaming-related moment that I can think of. Was a day one purchase after about a minute.

This one. My hype was lukewarm, but this trailer showed they knew the type of western to aim for, and that they had hit it square. After this trailer, I couldn't wait to devour this game.

Skyrim's first look trailer is a very close second. I was somewhat 'meh' about it after the teaser, but became ravenous as they not only showed an awesome video, but deeply hinted at getting back to Morrowind roots.

I know it's a "trailers" thread but still.

ITT : Proof that videogames started in 2000 (or proof that people think today's games are better than before?)
Either way, it's pretty horrifying imo.
