Trajes Fatais - New 2D Fighter

Sarah_Concept.gif
That's hilarious

Also, should be noted that this character goes against the whole idea of the game that "costumes became real" because she is totaly still in costume =P

Eh, for all we know the other characters looked just the same before and after they got their powers. Like this platypus costume possibly has a mind of its own, y'know?

| got to try the beta out a few minutes ago, its fun but a bit confusing at first, I keep blowin my EX moves by accident when I just want to gain more meter, im forced to crouch poke with the same move or whiff far away with any other moves to get meter. I should take a look at the character videos that show off the moves and button inputs. Art is great and characters seem pretty charming. Im having fun with Lucy (demon girl) at the moment, but they are all fun to use.

So ... they are trying to do another crowdfunding.

https://www.catarse.me/trajes_fatais

Now they are asking 80 thousand brazilian moneys (which is something like 25 trump dollars), 40 thousand brazilian moneys less than before.

Also the bonus fighters are all included and they changed the mechanics a little bit (like from 2 buttons they went to 4, 2 normals and 2 specials).

Also, they did the same weird thing where there is no english page again =P

Saw the explanation video of the new build on FB a few days ago, so glad they added more buttons. I am also not sure if the revenge health bar mechanic was in the old build.

They've reorganized their campaign and started a new crowd funding.
The new art for the characters looks like good old days SNK. I'm loving it so far.

It's interesting to know that its not the same programmer from the previous beta.

Anyway, i still want this game to succeed and having more buttons is a good thing.

I don't know if i like their pick for Meter Management

I like that they moved away from the one button controls. I think the game is simpler when it's not one button doing everything. Also nice production values on the videos.
I kinda miss the "spheres" health bar/infinite prevention system, but I'd like to see the new system in action. Too bad they don't have videos of any match in the new system :S

I would back it if it was on Kickstarter or Indiegogo.

If a random's brazilian word means anything, Catarse is a pretty safe site.

The site does lack a good english support so it should look pretty daunting to back anything there if you don't understand the language.

I like the caveman and the tamer lady.

It's more than just that. First there's the language. Then the fact that I'd have to sign up instead of just pressing the "back this project" button. And then I'm not sure if the project would actually make it anyway, I saw their last crowd funding campaign fail.

Yeah, those are problems.
On the last point, the funding is set on "all-or-nothing". Basically they only get the money if they managed to get the 80.000 reais.

Having it donated recently, the site unfortunately doesn't accept paypal, only credit card and, for the lack of an english word, payment slip.

New characters revealed

They're all Carnaval releated.

The first one is a Bate-Bola are clown figures associated with the carnaval of the suburbs of Rio. Basically people would dress in clown outfits and smash balls into the ground to create noise to party. The balls first started as clown bladders and now are plastic. While they party, they're also known to scare the children with their costumes and their noise. Another name for the Bate-Bolas is Clovis, which is an "Brazilianized" translation for Clown.

The second one(and possibly my favorite sprite work revealed so far), is a Frevista, also a famous carnaval figure, but instead of being based around in Rio, Frevistas are based around of the northeast of Brasil in the state of Pernambuco. If you guys watched the last Olympic Games set in Rio, Frevo was showcased in the ending cerimony. Frevo comes from Ferver (Boil). The idea was that Frevo music would make their feets feel like boiling in the streets and basically jump around. Legend goes that back in the day Capoeiristas would fight each other in the middle of Carnaval. When police started to crack down on them, the Capoeristas would start to hid their weapons on the umbrella and mix the already dancey Capoeira moves into an even more dance art, and from that Frevo was born. It's known for their jumps, coordinated fast leg movements, leg flexions, tumbling and umbrella tricks.

Personally speaking as a brazilian, these are super interesting figures. For one while i called them iconic figures of the brazilian culture, The Bate-Bola was a completely unknown aspect of this huge cultural element that is the Carnaval so it was nice learning about them. And the Frevo is such a huge aspect of my city culture and so rarely reresented that this really fucking impressive spritework represented this aspect of my city strikes a cord in my heart even though i don't actually care for Carnaval

They also made this to celebrate the holiday

So when can I wreck people with platypus girl?

whenever they meet their base goal i suppose.

I feel like they are making a huge mistake by not enabling Paypal anywhere.

It's one of the main points they should try to correct.

If you convert into real, the goal isn't even that far off compared to other crowdfunding games, its measily 26k dollars in total. Beasts Fury, which i consider a pretty lowkey crowdfunding game, got the double of that in their latest crowdfunding.

The devs are really missing out a huge base using shit like Catarse or Kickante

Yeah, a new female character was due.

Edit: But in hindsight, i might have jumped straight to the new posts and missed a ton of updates, lol.

Ah, i understand. Though to be fair, the female character did have an additional version of her avaiable on the Beta.

The base roster is going to be Devil Girl, Angel Dude, Sobrero Knifeman, Scarecrow boy, Fairy Gal, Platypus Chick, Pirate Dude, Roman Bro and the Devil.
If they're able to get more cash, they will add "B-side" version of those characters and 3 additional characters with their respective B-sides.

I still don't understand why Brazilian studios insist on using Portuguese names on their games, why not english since it makes it much more global and more likely to suceed?

I'd never heard of this game until now, but I will be buying it just for Lucy. So rare to see a character design I like so much from a non-Japanese studio these days.

First off, as the games are Brazilian (and not American or British), there is absolutely no need to name those in English. Associating that with being "more global" is an equivalence fallacy.

Regarding Trajes Fatais, it might be called Deadly Costumes on other regions for all I care. The game already has a name and even a nickname (TRAF). In the end, studios can name it whatever they want - even because, more often than not, some of these titles end up translated for other regions (Aritana, for instance).

I don't really see it how

They are pretty much "people in costumes" and the game's idea is that those costumes turned them into the real stuff... like how the angel got wings and the pirate has a hook for feet

Like a real samurai with a katana and a antropomorphic platypus
