Transfer for SSF4AE PC from GFWL to Steam announced, no GFWL DLC to be transferred

#1
If you own a digital GFWL copy of SSF4AE PC or any GFWL paid DLC for the same, Capcom have just ripped you off.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/combofiend/blog/2014/05/27/ssfivae-gfwl-to-steamworks-transition

Will not be buying any Capcom games on PC going forwards.

I own digital copies of both SSF4 and the complete costume pack. £25 total value:

If you own any GFWL PC DLC, it will not be transferred. You will have to buy any and all costumes again.

Ultra Street Fighter IV's digital upgrade ($15) may feature pre-order costumes but does not come with any DLC on its own. For all previous DLC you have to buy the full version ($30, out in August).

Let me get this right; you didn't get any activation keys for the digital version of SSFIV: AE?

So this doesn't apply to you?

2. You bought Super Street Fighter IV AE for Games For Windows Live (retail package version).

On May 30, 2014, the transition from GFWL to Steamworks will happen, and your GFWL enabled game will still function as normal for the foreseeable future.
You will be able to receive the Steam/Steamworks version of the game simply by inputting your original GFWL product activation code into the “Activate a Product on Steam…” option in the Steam client.
i. Customers can find their GFWL activation codes on the back of the instruction manual that came with the retail package.
Code Redeem Process:
i. Launch the Steam client software and log into your Steam account.
ii. Click the Games Menu.
iii. Choose Activate a Product on Steam... iv. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process. Once you’ve successfully redeemed your code, you will be able to download the Steamworks version of the game.
Once you boot up the new version of the game, it will prompt you to copy over your GFWL save data. If you select “YES” the game will copy over the latest save file. Make sure that’s the one you want before going through the process!

Contrast this with 2K who just gave everyone all of the Bioshock 2 DLC (which was exclusive to the GFWL store) when they updated for Steamworks.

THAT'S AWESOME! I'm going through Minerva's Den when I get home.

As for this though, I feel like this whole thing is a direct response to people (like me) who bought SSF4AE on sale for sub 10 dollars with the intent of upgrading to Ultra, where you would get all of the previous DLC anyway. That sucks a lot for people who actually spent the money, and this really does seem like Capcom's inexperience with the PC just shining like a beacon. I can't imagine they wouldn't back peddle on this, but who knows. With Ultra coming out in August and most people who still care about SF4 planning to upgrade, it's hard to say.

Eternal punishment and suffering for supporting the GFWL store.

Jokes aside, that really sucks. Don't know why I'm still surprised at the shit Capcpom pulls.

I can't blame this on Capcom's inexperience with PC. This is more of a Microsoft thing than anything.

I mean, I don't know how many strings capcom could pull alongside steam to verify that you did indeed download a digital GFWL version of SSF4:AE to get your free Steamworks copy.

Reading it it seems they prepared for as much as they could regarding Steam / Retail AE purchasers

You do not get all previous DLC with the Ultra upgrade, it is only with the $30 full version.

It was on sale on GFWL for half price when I bought it there. The DLC was also half price. I got every piece of AE DLC for £12 and I had loads of MSP to spend. It was a good deal, or so I thought.

Nah, Capcom has more experience with the PC than a lot of the major companies. They don't get the "FROM treatment" here.

Im surprised they are even going through the trouble of removing GFWL and allowing PC users to do the $15 upgrade. I was certain they were going to charge PC users full price

Yeah, and Warner Bros. when they gave all Arkham Asylum/City owners the GOTY edition in the Steamworks move.

Capcom really should've done that to earn some goodwill with players. Sorry for all the people who bought from GFWL :(

I figured this would happen, which is why I've been avoiding buying the DLC (especially that last sale), and I'm waiting for the complete version to release rather than go for the upgrade.

Thank god my disdain for GFWL prevented me from buying anything there, but this completely sucks for anyone who just got cheated out of a copy and his DLC :/

#32
If you bought DLC from the Steam store, you're fine and dandy.
Are you sure? The story linked in the OP makes it sound like all DLC is forfeit regardless of where it was purchased.

This is the only line about DLC: "Unfortunately, both paid and free DLC will not be transferred over in this process."

Note the indentation. It seems to apply to both Steam and GFWL purchases.

Oh, come on. Capcom hasn't used GFWL in a long time. They know better now. And anyway:

If you bought DLC from the Steam store, you're fine and dandy. If you foolishly decided to buy it from GFWL, you lose the DLC forever.
This seems more like Microsoft ripping you off than Capcom. Was it on sale or something? I don't know why anyone would ever get anything from GFWL.

Glad to hear to about the Steam version being okay, though. I was thinking about that last night.

Look at the formatting, guys. DLC gets nuked for everyone. Why would the same codes bought from different stores, which are for the same game running on the same service, transfer to Steam from one store but not another?

I downloaded SSF4AE and played around with it for the first time yesterday. GFWL didn't want to sign in my account, so I wasn't able to save. While I think the Bioshock 2 transfer was handled better, I think this is better than nothing, which is what I fear we'll get for GTA IV.

Thankfully I never actually purchased anything directly from GFWL. Terrible service all around, I'll be happy to see it gone, even if I do lose my DLC for the Steam version.

Holy crap, you're right. I was expecting the GFWL DLC to be screwed but I was under the impression that the DLC for the Steam version, being already bought off of the Steam Store (and AFAIK fully integrated into Steam via your purchase history etc) was fine.

All PC DLC is dead.

They didn't have to do anything - this doesn't rip you off. MS is ripping you off. It could have been better but there are quite a few games that are just not even bothering to get GFWL out of their code.

Because DLC bought in Steam is tracked by Steam, and the game is moving to Steamworks. Now, if Steam-bought DLC really doesn't transfer over, then Capcom royally screwed up (and it looks like this might be the case?).

The Street Fighter DLC is currently listed in my Steam purchases. Will it really disappear from my Steam purchases? I really don't see why that'd happen :x

It sounds like the new Steamworks version is a different listing in the Steamdb though, so I dunno if the tracking would apply.

No, it will still work with the GFWL version. It just won't carry forward to the Steam version.

i.e. you can have the GFWL and Steam versions installed at the same time and chilling next to each other in your library. Someone let JaseC know he gets a free +1.
