Transformers: Age of Extinction reviews

Will watch it when it's out of the theater. Dark of the Moon was marginally better (the last forty minutes were pretty damn watchable) because of the special effects, but man, even the Dinobots can't help me feeling a bit enthousiastic about this movie. Thanks Bay.
 
I imagine in 5-10 years Bay will be just be doing giant robot mayhem with porn in-between. Maximize what the audience wants.
 
I do not understand why these movies are so damn long. You would think they would want this series to clock in at a nice even 2 hours to fit in more screenings opening weekend.

Ah well... for people who want to see robot dinosaurs, I'm sure it'll be a blast. I'll look forward to Mark Kermode's inevitable mental breakdown trying to review the film.

technical issues and artistic disparity are two different things. If a ton of people artistically liked a dumb game then its the same thing and its fine.

And yes they are reviewing it wrong. It's a fucking dinosaur robot explosion movie and never said it would be anything else. It's like reviewing little kids movies and complaining about compelling stories. Its 123 ABC.
 
I don't really expect an Academy Award winning, thought provoking story from Transformers. Just give me something coherent with lots of robot violence and explosions, and I'll be satisfied with it.

You have way too high expectations already. This series and even just competently shot action scenes are a rarity.

Batman and Robin was not technically sound, or beautiful. Michael Bay films are.

he'll continue to make films that will entertain audiences. he doesn't cater to the random internet forum dweller.

I wish Bay hadn't completely lost any trace of self-control in recent years. The Rock is a genuinely great action movie and even the first Transformers movie is pretty decent. Transformers 2 and 3 were hideously bloated, tedious and visually incomprehensible, and the trailers for Age Of Extinction looked like suffering exactly the same problems only, even more ridiculously, now 10 minutes LONGER than movies which were already drastically overlong. If these movies were 100 minutes long, without all the pointless supporting characters and a more palpable sense of humour and they'd already be infinitely more bearable. These movies don't need to be clever or respectable, but good action movies should be concise, clear and well-paced, which is pretty much the opposite of everything Bay's been making after the first Transformers.

Right, the source material where Optimus Prime is a noble, principled leader and not an unhinged, psychotic murderer who wants to tear off faces? The source material where the robots are all in blocky, identifiable, iconic silhouettes and not confusing, jumbled, spikey junkyard scraps stuck together? The source material where all the robots are not offensive racial stereotypes that make jokes about being unable to read and call people "pussies?" The source material where the humor is toned down and kid appropriate and you don't have shots of John Turturro's asscheeks, Bumblebee pissing on John Turturro, Ken Jeong jumping on top of Shia LaBeouf in a toilet stall and calling himself "Deep Wang," or a shot of Devastator's testicles? The source material where women aren't just treated as sex objects and shot with blatantly pornographic sensibilities? That source material?

What does the source material have to do with it ? Bad writing/directing is what it is .

Who would of thought a mythology of a man who dresses up as a Bat versus a man called The Joker would be so endeared by critics and audiences alike.

Or a mythology that consists of Wookies and The Force could be so loved especially it's first two entries with one of them often regarded as one of the best films ever made.

You can give anything character, heart and purpose when it's well written and directed. Even a bunch of robots that change into vehicles
 
Leave it to Transformers and TASM 2 to be the sole marks on a otherwise great summer of blockbusters. I think they are legit the only things to end up with rotten ratings so far lol. I'll still trade that over a summer of mostly shit with a few gems tho.

Even as someone who didn't really watch much Transformers cartoons, LOL. Still waiting for a Transformers movie with not groan-worthy dialogue or toilet humour, competently shot and exciting robot-on-robot action choreography, likeable human characters, more focus on the bloody robots, and not to be completely forgettable an hour after you've seen them.

Modern Prime is the best, he actually acts like a general in a war. War makes you do bad things, sometimes jsut to survive sometimes for the greater good. G1 Prime was an idiot. When Cosmo told him teh construcons were on an astestroid doing dirty shit. He told the little guy that isn't proof they were up to no good. No wonder dumbasses liek Megatron and Starscream had him on the ropes.

Yeah... no. I disagree. Optimus Prime is kind of like Superman... he's got his principles and ethics and he stands tall because of them. The moral courage he displays is every bit as important to the character as his courage in battle.

I have no emotional connection to an Optimus Prime that goes around yelling "Give Me Your Face!" That's just a mad dog that needs to be put down.
