I'll take Rosie over whatever the hell that's supposed to be on the right. The one on the left is
was
pretty damned hot though.
You have bad taste and you should be ashamed of yourself, sir.
One hour for me until I see if this is the 3D that will either save 3D or help kill it off. I hope for the former, mostly just because it would annoy the shit out of Roger Ebert (and to an extent I like 3D movies).
I honestly can't tell if I like him more or less. On one hand, wow, is he cocky and having a way with words and being honest with reality in the hollywood system. On the other, it's kind of a dick move to be airing laundry like that for no reason. Then again, his dick-ishness is part of the appeal. It's all a very circular conflict.
I went to watch Super 8 today and when I left the theater at 9:20pm I didn't even know there was a 9-something pm showing either, but there it was some people where lining up, but it wasn't a huge line.
That being said, the midnight showings were sold out at my theater also.
Was better than 2, but it did drag at parts and really it was all the fault of so much garbage Shia scenes and the movie was full of yelling, even in non action parts. Comedy was toned down a bit from the goofy shit of 2.
Some great action sequences, the effects were great, but by the end it was just getting kind of boring.
The last hour was fucking amazing; not even sure how they shot some of that shit.
First 1.5 hrs was pretty mediocre; exposition in a Michael Bay movie is cringe-worthy and the TheBeef-Rosie scenes with the corny as fuck musical choices were wahjah. None of the 'jokes' were any good, just incredibly cheesy like TF2. Story? Also dumb.
Overall, a good movie only because the last hour is incredible especially in 3D+IMAX
Just came back from 9pm showing. Brief impressions:
First half had some ups and downs but holy shit everything in the last half was ridiculous. Props to all the technical artists who contributed to make that happen.
Definitely better than RotF as a film, first one still probably best in terms of story but Bay sure is going out with one hell of a bang.
Just got back from the 9pm showing. Easily so much better than the second film and on first watch my instinct is to say it is better than the original. The action is much easier to follow and the story was actually kinda fun. Some good (if childish) humor and despite my desire to think otherwise, the new chick looks pretty hot on film.
Very fun movie, saw it in 3D and the action was fantastic. Rosie shits all over Megan Fox (one is dirty fucking shitty girl and the other looks like an angel, so theres not even a contest here).
It was much better than ROTF and in generally so spectacularly dumb I couldn't help but enjoy it. It's completely tone deaf, with some of the same kind of out of nowhere surreal comedy that the first two had, but a lot of it actually kind of worked to me because Shia LaBeouf was playing Sam almost like Ben Browder played John Crichton towards the end of Farscape at times (i.e. Pretty much just losing his goddamn marbles and taking every exponentially insane, ridiculous situation in a "i don't even fucking care anymore" kind of way). A particular scene with Alan Tudyk did this in a hilarious way.
On the flipside the
Chicago destruction sequence
was almost like the Terminator movie that Salvation should've been. More violent than I expected, and pretty damn grim.
The 3D was great, but almost too subtle at times (really when there was no action). The
Just got back. My overall impression is "first half dragged on way too long, second half was amazing." Have some problems with the continuity and with rather abrupt deaths, but it's definitely way better than RotF.
Just got back from the 9PM showing. Dark of the Moon definitely washes away the horrible taste of Revenge of the Fallen, and is on par with the first film.
What I found surprising was that the Transformers have a substantial amount of dialogue. But as in the other films, they play second fiddle to the humans. In particular, I had a problem with
Megatron. As in ROTF he's actually a secondary villain to a more powerful one (Sentinal Prime) and it diminishes his standing as the most menacing of all the Decepticons.
All in all, this film has the same flaws as the others (annoying comic relief characters), but the last hour has to be seen to be believed. Quite possibly the greatest scenes of mayhem and destruction captured on film.
Movie delivers in the "it's the best Transformers movie yet". Action delivers, robot on robot action delivers. Less awkward "comedy" moments from the 2nd one. The girl was not as annoying as I thought she would be. 2nd act was GODLIKE, almost on the level of that final Avatar scene.
I appreciated the
Call of Duty Chernobyl sniper mission cameo. I am pretty sure Michael Bay is a COD fan but I guess this might be pay back for when COD totally ripped that one The Rock scene in MW2 so they are both pretty even now.
If you hated the Transformers movie before, then you will hate this. If you loved them... lol what you doing reading this post for?
Just got home from my 9pm showing. I thought the movie was fantastic. While many may disagree I would say it is better than even the first.
From my earlier posts in this thread, you should know that for these movies I am interested in the action first and story second. Boy did the action bring it's A-game! Honestly, some of the best action scenes I have seen in a movie, and it's not really that close. The last hour is basically what every little kid who used to play with transformers has dreamed of. Battle after battle after battle between the factions. The military was used more than in previous films, but I thought it was pulled off well and they still had to use a lot of tactical strategy to actually be effective. If you want to just veg out and watch some really cool special effects and basically Bayformers-porn, it is perfect.
As for the story, it may not have been as well rounded and had clear definite arcs to it as TF1, but I thought it was nicely put together and was present enough for me to continue to enjoy the movie without pause. The beginning intro was very well put together I thought, even though some of the acting during it(
especially the white house oval office stuff
) was questionable. It did have some twists and turns which kept me engaged, especially during the slower parts, but when it ramped up, it RAMPED up! As soon a
Sentinel Prime turned on them, it was full go
. Despite what everyone else on GAF thinks, I thought the movie was funny and actually enjoyed much of the humor. As just a student in college, I guess the humor is more geared toward the younger audience so it makes sense for me to find it enjoyable. That same humor kept me involved in the story during the hour or so of setup time.
Acting has always been something that Transformers could always have used to improve, and I think it is actually not bad in DOTM. Rosie is a vast improvement over Megan Fox in my opinion, and I think her and Shia had a pretty good dynamic going for it being their first outing. Of course, there were some lines that were intended to be serious, but came off as laughable(on a theatre wide scale at time), but overall it seemed to be improved, and didnt make me cringe as much.
But really, this series is all about the Transformers after all, and they finally got their time to shine. So many epic occurrences took place and the CG was simply stunning(props to the user that is on the team for DOTM). People had asked about if there were a lot of actual transformations in this, and I was actually stunned by just how many full on transformations we saw.
I saw this in 3D after failing to never see Avatar in 3D, this was my best 3D experience to date. I had previously seen Pirates 4, Toy Story 3, and a few others in 3D but this really blew me away. I didn't even see it in an IMAX 3D theatre(Real D 3D), and I had a great viewing experience. If you do end up seeing this, make sure to view it in 3D as it is used in great effect and is never too over baring on the viewer.
Clearly, I enjoyed the movie to great extent. Enough extent to explain why in this great of detail. I think it is miles ahead of 2, and would actually but it over 1 because the last hour is simply exhilarating, and the first hour didn't kill me like many other users. Most definitely one of the best summer action flicks I have seen, and reinvigorated my desire for more 3D showcases. I will most likely see this again in theaters(tried buying a midnight showing right after it, but it was sold out) because I can't wait for the Blu-Ray release of it without seeing it some more.
Tldr;
Loved it
+Amazing Action
+3D
+Rosie>Megan
+Comedy was enjoyable
+Tranfromations/CG goodness
+Little kid's sandbox dream
-Some cringe worthy lines
-Better acting, but still not great
TF3>TF1>>>>TF2
My spoilerific thoughts
At some moments, they really had me going. I honestly thought bumblebee was going to die because he isn't integral to the ending of the film, and I was actually really depressed when it was happening.
The way the autobots showed back up after the spaceship explosion was pretty sweet. The crowd actually cheered when that happened.
When Optimus took down the giant snake machine, it was great CG and fillming.
Bumblebee's transformation during the chase and then catching Sam mid air and converting back was awesome to watch. Along with after Sam killed the Deception and he catches him and Lennox midair
Thank god for Megatron being power hungry and saving Optimus from Sentinel at just the right time! But how bad ass is Optimus? Like, really. Taking down Megatron with one arm and in one swing while obliterating his head, then proceeding to shoot Sentinel into oblivion. Great stuff right there.

Them making Megatron appear weak was done on purpose, hence the insect bot things fucking with him in that desert and him generally getting his ass kicked by Sentinel.
The theater atmosphere was weird for me, people were cheering during the movie. Clapping and shit. Is that normal for you guys or is this an IMAX thing?

I was at the theater for a 7 pm LOTR showing, and there was no one getting tickets around 9pm or lining up for the show around that time. But when we left around 1130, the theater lobby was insane. Guess the 9pm show didn't get tons of press.
