Traveling with your PS4. Tips?

Going home for a couple of weeks for the holidays and kinda wanna bring my PS4 with me. Good idea to carry it around and move it like that? Any tips?

Depending on how you're carrying it around ( airplane, car ride, etc. ) a laptop bag actually works very well, especially one that has a bit of a harder shell than just fabric. Other than that, maybe its' original box?

Treat it like any piece of fragile electronics. Don't drop it or get water in it. Not sure what else you need to know... don't move it with a disc in it is always a good suggestion too.

If you're in a hotel, just make sure to have access to the TV's HDMI ports.

Last trip to Tokyo I did, I brought my Vita TV with me, and the TV was NAILED to the wall, with the HDMI ports inaccessible.

Also, if you go overseas, you may want to do a declaration of ownership at the customs at your origin contry. That way, when you come back, in the rare case they check your luggage, they won't accuse you to have bought it at your destination country.

Edit: sorry. I missed the "going home" part, silly me.

I've travelled 2 long plane trips with my PS4 (and Wii U) in the last few months.

Wrap it in a t-shirt to avoid scratches and pack it neatly in your suitcase with clothes surrounding it. Don't put any more hard objects in the direct vicinity to avoid them getting pressed against the console.

Both my consoles survived well.

I've came across this bag on Amazon. I haven't personally used it myself, but the reviewers seem to like it and it can hold a decent amount of things. Yeah it's a bit pricey but it's better than having a console that is scratched up to hell.

I don't remember if they do this frequently but at least in my local airport TSA asked people to take out any gaming consoles for scanning over the holidays. Just a heads up if you want to wrap it in clothes in your suitcase, as you might have to undo all that packing and redo it right at the airport.

The only part that can get scratched is easily replaceable so I don't think it's worth it.

It is a fine standalone carrier (albeit not discreet) if you need one to carry just the console somewhere.

Also, if you are flying, avoid putting it into checked in luggage. Especially during the holidays costly stuff (and gifts) get stolen.

Bring it in your hand luggage.

I have had mine in a checked suitcase for at least 10 flights this year. I basically just line my suitcase with clothes except for the center, throw it on, then layer the rest of my clothes on top of it so it's surrounded by 40 lbs of fabric. Haven't had an issue yet.

Targus 16" laptop backpack works best IMHO. It has two large compartments, and within the larger of the two large compartments there's a slot for laptops up to 16", which a PS4 would slide right into very nicely and be pretty snug, with plenty of room left over for your controller and cords, and some socks and skivvies. If you're flying this bag fits within the size requirements for carrying onto the plane as a 'personal bag', so it won't even take up your carry-on slot (which most people use for wheeled smallish suitcases which I still think are too large to be considered a carry-on).

Then just don't throw the backpack around like it's full of dirty laundry and you'll be fine.

In America they check the contents of your checked baggage? Not judging, just wondering, because I've never been there and here in the EU never happened to me. They just weight it, tag it and bye bye, cya in destination.

i don't think i'd ever travel with mine. already too afraid to wipe the dust off the glossy section lol i can only imagine the scratches i'd get in a backpack :\

would just bit the bullet and buy a second one for my fam heh

Wrap it in a towel (or in some clothing if you aren't bringing a towel) and put it on your carry on bag. Never had an issue when doing this.

I had my PS4 in the upper pocket of my duffel bag during a 3 day greyhound trip. Ya know, down below the bus where other peeps' bags tumble on top of it. It's worked perfectly since the trip.

This especially. There have been stories about TSA stealing shit from people's luggage. Try to bring your PS4 in with your carry-on bag if you don't want to take the risk. It would suck for something like that to happen.

I've done this with my PS3 and laptop and everything came out ok. I taped my DS3 down so that the analog sticks wouldn't get loose as well.

When I travel with my consoles, I usually pack the console in the same bag as my clothes, with the clothes packed around the console. But I've never taken a console on an airplane. I would probably just use a laptop bag.

My real recommendation is to just leave the console behind. Bring a handheld for the trip and any downtime (I like to play for an hour in bed to unwind). Even if the console isn't going to eat into your family time, a little time away from the game you're hooked on will make it that much sweeter when you get back home.

I got one of those gaming laptop backpacks when I bring my laptop for a quick lan. Fits comfortably :). For Xbox I bring a duffle bag cause I'm working out with its PSU brick lol

They only do it for carry-on items, and only for "large electronics" (e.g. game consoles, laptops, etc.). Anything else can stay in the carry-on luggage as they scan it. They don't typically scan checked baggage but "might" for whatever reason. I've personally never had anyone open a checked bag but it does happen, and someone else in the thread said in some rare cases expensive stuff might "mysteriously" go missing.
