Trayvoning, The New Facebook Fad

I don't understand why this would be funny in any way, shape or form. I guess I just don't understand overprivileged, upper-middle class white teens anymore.

It's not white people, it's young people in general. This 17-22yo generation is fucked. I've heard my own (black) brother use the phrase "I hope I don't get Trayvon'd" (as he was shopping for some snacks at night)

You know you're old when you're calling out young people on the shit they do.

Every generation before us has been saying this. It's just that social media magnifies the idiots.

Wow. Is this really something worth making fun of? I mean, I realize that the Internet is not the place for tact or respect for others' feelings, but this meme is just purposefully disrespectful and offensive. Why does it even need to exist?

Do these people not care at all about Trayvon's parents and how they'll feel if they ever catch wind of this? Something this offensive is sure to get coverage on some news outlets eventually. Ugh.

Using the name and the event as a verb is one thing. Posting a Facebook picture mimicking his death is something else on an entirely different continent on its own.

Yeah, it's not like other generations haven't acted like idiots from time to time. Not to mention these people don't reprisent majority of their age class.

Quite offensive.

Yup, he looks white to me.

Racist.

extremely disrespectful to the family and this whole issue.

i'm not sure i understand why this is declared racist though. can someone explain it for me? i'm not trying to offend.

Maybe I missed it, but did someone here call it racist?

He made an offensive statement I'm sure he thought was funny at the time. Did he upload it on the internet though?

It is kind of weird how we can make these kinds of jokes about dead celebrities, but when it's a private citizen it's somehow over the line.

Just an observation, not excusing what these people are doing.

There's a difference between a celebrity, who usually dies as a result of their own self-destructive behavior and an unarmed teenager murdered by someone.

JC, that's the most disgusting and vulgar thing I've ever seen. These people (and their parents) should honestly be ashamed of themselves.

You don't see any sort of difference between a public figure and a private citizen - lest one that was murdered?

Naw, there have been tons of jokes/imitations of dead celebrities that didn't die by drugs. Natalie Wood, Payne Stewart, JFK Jr. all come immediately to mind. I'm sure there's dozens of others if I think about it.

I think there comes a point where a private citizen becomes so famous, so fast they cross over in the minds of some people.

I'd be so incredibly pissed if I was one of his family members right now. To see people make light of a situation that has no inherent humor whatsoever is incredibly idiotic.

Not sure how this is super offensive or anything. Just taking the whole hoodie (where you would take a close up pic of yourself in a hoodie) one step further. It's dumb, no doubt, but nothing to throw a fit over.
