Trunks is useless (DBZ Thread)

Everyone was useless by the same metric.

Except for Goku, obviously.

I dunno

Piccolo manages to stay relevant in every arc, and the side characters go through varying amounts of usefulnesss (like Gohan and Trunks). Goku didn't even beat Cell!

Vegeta was truly useless after the Namek saga though. No scratch that, the Prince of All Jobbers was outright detrimental. (He's the reason Cell and Buu managed to go as far as they did)

Everybody was useless.

Especially when poor writing reached nirvana and every human is useless. I think, in the dub, tien or yamucha even said "we're just here, but we can't even do anything". Like the biggest slap in the face to people who watched these guys in dragonball.

Yamcha was always useless, even in Dragonball.
Tien was probably the most prominent character outside of Goku, even though he wasn't even in the first half of it. (Strongest outside of goku and piccolo, too).

I dunno man, returning to the future was pretty awesome. "Oh hey, I see you lurking in the shadows. You're not going to the past Cell"

Cell: "whut"

Plus the history of Trunks is cool. It has the coolest Gohan.

Bahahahhahaha

Watching DBZ Abridged, I saw him wipe out Mecha-Freiza, and since then I've been waiting for him to actually do something except make vague warnings about androids. I thought this guy was supposed to be cool.

Trunks gave heart medicine to Goku. Only something he was able to do since he came from the future. This ultimately led him to having the ability to instant transmission Imperfect Cell to blow up King Kai's planet instead of planet Earth.

Unbeknownst to him, he saved Earth by saving Goku's life.

Obviously it was the hair

my favorite character Piccolo at least managed to stay relevant for a long while (since his intro way back in the original Piccolo arc all the way to his Android fight)

i disliked how he became such a jobber in the Buu arc.

He becomes quote badass after he leaves the time chamber. Plus his USSJ transformation was cool (or whatever it's called). He looked like Broly

Shame he wasn't too much use in the final battle with Cell

Yeah, Future Trunks with the longer hair was the best. Looked awesome when he went SSJ.

Spiky.

We all know that Oolong was the true hero of DBZ.

Or would YOU like to be ruled by a blue midget, a wimpy shiba inu and a plain looking, bland girl?

Are you kidding me? Watching him go back to his own timeline and kill Android 17/18/Cell was extremely satisfying. Especially after watching the movie History of Trunks.

I like him

Hes no fucking yamcha pal

Tenshinhan was only really relevant in his debut, his first villain battle involved him getting owned by some dude that Goku killed in one-hit.

I still feel that the series should have ended at Freeza. Goke defeating the bad guy who destroyed the Sayans while dying in the process. It really was the perfect ending for the series.

This is why the original Dragonball will always be my favorite. Dragonball was all about getting stronger through different techniques, not all that power-level shit. DBZ introduced Trunks and I thought he was gonna continue being this badass Super Saiyan who would go along with Goku. But nope, later sagas he is relegated to basically spectator status and praying alongside everyone else that Goku saves the day lol.

They created a character, backstory, cool-ish design and the whole point of him was a plot device to make you go "oh SHIT" when he was scared of the androids after you just watched Goku struggle on Freeza for like 3 months.

This kid shows up and absolutely mullered Freeza, so he knows his shit.

But then again, the whole point of DBZ was to make little kids go "oh SHIT" when someone stronger shows up and just cockily destroys everyone, and then you go "oh now you dun it" when the weighted clothing comes off.

That's basically DBZ in a nutshell.

Trunks was a cool way to spice up the formula, though, with his time travel and unexpected heritage. Plus, he was the first Super Saiyan that wasn't Goku, and somehow that was an even bigger deal than Goku's original transformation because it wasn't at all hinted at. Goku was hinted to be capable of transforming throughout the entire Freeza arc. It was also implied he was the legendary Super Saiyan. Trunks subverted all of our expectations in a number of different ways, but then got shelved almost right away. He is the epitome of wasted potential, and especially of the flaws in Toriyama's writing.

So true, one armed Gohan was too real. Also Trunks transformation scene was so sad and beastly at the same time.

One armed gohan was a boss. I was happy to play as him in budokai tenkaichi 3 back in the day.

I actually liked trunks throughout the whole saga. It's the GT version that I truly can't stand.

DBZ Abridged is not really all that funny, but rather an impressive re-dub for the most part. However, that was the single funniest gag they ever did. The expression sells it so well.

Speaking of Chi-Chi, did anybody else find Goku's loveless marriage a bit depressing? I hate her in the Z series.
