I only recently learned what Austin 3:16 meant after seeing Kevin Love wear a shirt of it after winning the finals and its fucking hilarious.

oh, you didn't know?

YO' ASS BETTER CAAAAAALL SOMEBOOOOODYYYYYYYYY...

wait, wrong wrestler.

Undertaker got me interested in wrestling in the early 90's but Austin, his match against the rock when he drove his truck down to the ring in particular, is what got me obsessed for many years.

And now we have Auston 20:16

I hate it now but really shows how big a star Austin was...

The fact a decade plus later the crowd still chants "WHAT" during segments.

I remember coming to school on Tuesdays and discussing with everyone what jackass thing Austin did the night before.

Moments
Backlash 2000
Austin is one of the kings of hype surprise run ins (see also helping foley win the title in 99 and the night before WWF Invasion) but this one, hot damn. Rock's getting crushed by ridiculous odds, Austin arrives for the first time since his injury looking a bit chubbier but he has a chair so it balances out and everyone eats steel.
Rock wins the title arena implodes, then the two biggest stars of the attitude era drink some beer.
.

This was one of those peak WWF moments right there. The huuuge crowd pops for Stone Cold's return, and The Rock's spinebuster/people's elbow. The commentary was mad entertaining, JR and King are hilarious. Authority being a bunch of villainous shits etc.

So much excitement in a short clip.

What were some of your favorite Stone Cold matches?

Top 5 for me:
vs Bret Hart Wrestlemania 13 (also the best WWE/F match ever)
vs Bret Hart Survivor Series 96
vs The Rock Wrestlemania X-7
vs Kurt Angle Summerslam 2001
vs Chris Benoit Smackdown May 2001

Also, I have to say, the Owen Hart match at Summerslam was fucking fantastic until Owen completely fucked that match.

Also, I love a lot of Stunning Steve when he was in the Dangerous Alliance. War Games~!

It's crazy to think about if Trips hadn't fucked up with the curtain call, where Austin would be. He probably still would have blown up. He was destined to be GOAT.

It would have been interesting if Bret didn't get screwed with his contract. I wonder if Vince would've ever been the biggest heel in the company. I also wonder if Bret was supposed to main event with the Boy Toy at Wrestlemania 14. I'm so glad he didn't.

His 96-97 stretch as a heel then a tweener is untouchable. Best character in wrasslin history. Incredible promos mixed with the perfect TV presentation and booking = Mega star.

"You better give your soul to the lord or somebody, because your ASS IS MIIIIIIIIIIINE."

Austin, most likely, saved the WWF from bankruptcy and is an absolute legend in every aspect. His match against Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 13 is easily one of my favorites of all time.

If the MSG Curtain Call incident doesn't happen, then HHH wins KotR and gets his push, no Austin 3:16, and Austin stays in the midcard for at least another year or two. The wrestling business looks a lot different.

It's amazing how much modern wrestling seems to originate from HBK, DX, and his Kliq.

WCW possibly wins.

Hall and Nash created their own defeat 5 years before it happened lol.

That's the cool thing about learning the inside baseball of it. It's always fun to think about how things would have turned out. Wrestling is full of that stuff.

In elementary school all my friends were all Goldberg fans and I was the only Stone Cold fan.

That era of the WWE was magical. It was amazing. I don't think we will ever see a Wrestler like Stone Cold ever again. Austin will always be my favourite along with Mankind, Sting and The Rock

This guy got me back into wrestling after the terrible gimmicks of the mid 90's. We really will never get someone like Austin in the over scripted, sterile environment of modern WWE.

I don't know about that. WCW really started to lose steam after the Hogan/Sting match...if the WWF was able to get by without going bankrupt, and they were able to last through WCW's creative implosion in 2000, the WWF might still have been victorious in the end. WCW destroyed itself near the end, even if WWF was killing it in ratings.

People talk about King of the Ring making Austin, bullshit. Bret Hart made Austin. That feud was a masterpiece, and their Mania Match was one of the greatest matches of all time.

Pretty clear that both -- King of the Ring and Bret Hart -- were instrumental in Austin's meteoric rise, daddeh.

Pretty much the reason I got into wrestling and one of the major reasons I stopped watching when he left and the company changed.

Both of his podcasts also tend to be really entertaining. Dude's really funny and really insightful when talking about wrestling.

Without the 3:16 promo it wouldn't have provided the impetus for Vince to turn Austin face with the WM13 match because of his rising popularity. I'd say both of them were instrumental for his success.

Ever since I was a kid I always thought Austin 3:16 meant that he won the World Championship in 3min16secs.

Only in the last couple of years did I find out what it was really about.
