Ubisoft opens Ubisoft Club....

Uh, the moment where they all violently shake their controllers at crotch level might seem like a bad idea in retrospect.

"Extra in-game content". They are gonna slice games into more pieces now. Already really tired of hearing playstation / gamestop exclusive in-game content.

Wonder if this is XBO only, like EA Access. The Uplay app already updated to say Ubisoft Club last week. Haven't checked if it did the same on PS4.

they already kinda do this with uPlay... i vaguely remember elephant skins or something for Far Cry 4

Oh, they're separating the reward system from U-Play?

You know that it's already the case with the reward system from U-Play right? Theyre are some contents (like skin or extra bullet slot) that you unlock with the reward system.

edit: already lvl 28

It sounds like it's only a re-branding of the uplay service/app for now. Beta access through it might be new, otherwise it's all the same stuff.

UPlay already gave 'extra in-game content', that's not something new unless they're planning to add to it.

The system at least used to be an achievement-based 'currency' which could be spent on content. I recall an Assassin's Creed (2?) had a tomb that was only available through that mechanic. I've no idea if it's still the case, but it used to be that getting all the achievements in a game would give you enough currency to buy all the items. I should add that at the time there was no way to purchase that currency with real money - has that changed?

I would rather have them ditch Uplay and just use Steam so I don't have to avoid their PC versions any more.

I've never understood this hate for Uplay. Granted, my only Ubisoft game on PC was Child of Light, but whenever I launch it through Steam, it opens Uplay on the background and it doesn't disturb me in-game whatsoever. When I'm done playing, I only have to exit Uplay once and it's gone for good until I reopen Child of Light.

It's really a non issue. You're probably also shitting on Origin, are you? sTeAm MaSTeRrAceee

I liked I uPlay when it was a simple optional service that let you earn points that to could use to unlock extra things in Ubi games of your own choosing. That was a nice concept.

Reminds me of EA'S Gun Club. Will be dead within a year or two I suspect. If it ever takes off.

My word, I'd forgotten Gun Club. I guess we could possibly bundle CoD Elite (or whatever it was called) into that as well, couldn't we? Or is that still a going concern?

There seems to be a desperation to get some sort of meaningful 'service' tied to the big brands, I presume for future marketing plans.

I'm not shitting on Origin because it works. You are also using Uplay through Steam, which means you are not experiencing the worst it has to offer: that installing and patching system - or the lack of one.

To install Far Cry 3 on Uplay, I must let Uplay download an installer and then wait about 15 minutes for the game to install after the download. But that's only version 1.0! Now I have to do the same for each patch that has come out since the game's release! If only I had Steam (or even Origin) to do it for me, but no.

To get an Uplay game on Steam, I have to buy it on Steam. That's not an option with Steam's European prices being as horrendous as they are.

Ah, shit.

I'm getting really tired of having Steam, Battle.net, UPlay, Origin and GoG all taking up mind-space on my desktop. Sometimes I literally can't find a game because I've forgotten what platform it's for.

Compared this to just putting a disc in a PS4... Le sigh

In most of Ubisoft games, they ask you to log in U-play even on console. That's how they track achivement for their cross-platform reward system (now called Ubisoft Club)

Maybe because it's installation it's primitive, it was hacked, the store is horrendous, it doesn't have a community like Steam. Uplay sucks to the point where it makes Origin look tolerable.

PC gaming would be better off if everyone just put all their games on Steam and didn't require their own shitty clients.

Origin and uplay have been nothing but trouble and were actively detrimental to my experience. And while there's nothing wrong per se with gog galaxy or the battle.net launcher, they're also just completely superfluous for me. I gain nothing from them, so they just end up being an additional layer that stands between me and the game.
