UFC 81: BROCK LESNAR! BROCK LESNAR! BROCK LESNARRrrr!!!

I really hope Lesnar gets knocked out, but I have a sneaking suspicion he'll win.

His sheer size can be an advantage. Even though he probably used steroids to get to that size, strength is strength.

His punching/kicking/etc. are gonna suck, but if he actually lands a few hits... that's all it'll take.

So...because he didn't like the wrestling lifestyle/work schedule he is a bitch? I guess Jericho and RVD are bitches too as they left for the exact same reason, right? I am not a Brock mark, but at the same time the man made a decision for his life. Made a decision so that he won't be all broke down at 50 and barely walking around. So that he won't need 2 hip replacements like Piper. I am fine with it.

The thing about MMA is that anyone can beat anyone in a match. A lucky punch, a lucky kick, catch someone in a submission and it can be over quickly. Most knowledgable MMA fans know this, but if Brock loses it will be a big blow to his reputation. But if he wins, and wins overwhelmingly, he will be a HUGE star.

Actually no. If you don't know what you're talking about, please hush.

Brock Lesnar signed on to work with New Japan Pro Wrestling. It was a a cushy as hell "schedule". In fact, he was given their title right off the bat and maybe wrestled TWICE after that in the span of 3-5 months. He was then called to defend and drop the belt to a NJPW wrestler and Brock, being a bitch, pussied out and did not fulfill his obligation, said no and STOLE their belt.

It wasn't until a year later where he finally got in the ring and wrestled Angle and "lost" the belt, which is the stolen belt Angle has now (in which NJPW made the best out of the situation and will use Angle to drop the title).

Brock was given the world and couldn't even play ball with NJPW which screwing them hard. I'm not even talking about his WWE days (their schedule is just silly, but if you're under contract you fulfill it. I believe he was out of contract or on his last match when his Goldberg match took place).

holy shit, he took their belt?

I just came into this thread to say, Lesnar should have played the role of Eddie Brock.

Not in a Sam Rami garbage Spider-Man flick, but in an alternate universe where James Cameron fulfilled his life-long dream of directing a great Spider-Man movie.

i hope nog destroys tim, but i doubt it :(

the mir/lesner fight should be cool. i'm excited as hell to see if brock lives up to the hype or is just a very strong guy with no fighting skills as i suspect. i'm picking mir, but obviously my confidence in any prediction at this point is suspect

I hope Brock crushed Mir, but I expect to be disappointed yet again. LOL @ him F5-ing the shark though. Never saw that before. :lol PEACE.

I predict the Lesnar/Mir fight goes one of three ways:

1) Mir by armbar in the 1st
2) Mir by TKO in the 1st
3) Lesnar by blanket lay n pray decision

I think the first option is most likely to happen.

He's coming into the thread where id wager the majority of the people here saw the weigh in live, and then posts pics that say DYNAMITE USA in the background.

Courtesy of sherdog indeed.

So the more I think about Nog/Tim, the more I want Nog to win. First off, if Nog wins, it'll likely be by a slick submission finish. And another thing, Nog winning gives more incentive for the ufc to keep Andrei and set up Randy vs Fedor. I would give Nog the advantage over Randy but Tim is just a bad matchup for him. Nog will spend a lot of energy to get Tim down and when he eventually does, Tim will stand it back up leading to Nog having to go through the difficult process of getting Tim back down again. And if Nog gets knocked down like he did in the Herring fight, I'm gonna feel bad for him cuz Tim is very good at pouncing on downed opponents.

One girl smiles for Mir...the other for Lesnar.

Lesnar vs Mir - I keep going back an forth on this one. But in the end I cant go with a guy who got his ass kicked by Marcio Cruz. One punch from Brock would be like 25 from Pe De Pano. So Brock by TKO in the second.

Nogueira vs Sylvia - Big Tim by boring 5 round decision.

Griffin vs Tibau - Tibau just hasnt impressed me. Basically all he has done at LW is control his opponents. Tyson wont be so easy to control....or get down at all for that matter. Tibau is just outclassed in this fight.

Martin vs Eastman - Someone is very likely getting knocked out in this one. I think it'll be glassjaw Martin.

K-taro vs Emerson - Rob is a tough dude but for a guy who is supposed to have a kickboxing base is stand up was laughable on the show. K-taro got off to a slow start in both his fight at WW and was controlled early by a couple of good wrestlers(Larson and Fickett) but came on strong at the end of both fights. I dont think Rob will give him anyone to worry about on the ground...or the feet for that matter.

Horn vs Marquardt - I like Horn but I think he's on a downslide. At this point I think Nate is better at just about everything. This one is either gonna be really good or really boring.

Lytle vs Brady - Lytle has looked really good in his last couple fights and I know nothing about Brady. I'm going Lytle by first round sub.

Heath vs Boetsch - Heath is a tough bastard and Boetsch looks like a fat slob in his picture.

Yudnt vs Almeida - Yudnt looks like a big strong ground and pounder and Almeida is bound to be very rusty. My upset special. Still sucks Belcher pulled out.

i'm kinda mixed on how i should feel about brock. on one hand i think he can be an exciting fighter if he trains the right way and may have a future in mma. on the other hand i don't want him having to much success since that will make mma look kinda bad. who is brock training with?

Why would it make the UFC look bad? He's got better pre-mma credentials than half the people than step into the Octagon and he's been training for nearly 2 years now.

I'm not sure whether the Mir-Lesnar fight is beneficial for either fighter. If Mir wins, he was fighting a super inexperienced MMA fighter, if Lesnar wins, he's fighting someone that is past his prime.

I suppose Lesnar is in a more favourable posistion but i'm not so sure he'll win.
I've noticed he's gone from his initial super confident arrogant stance "i'm gonna drop him on his head!?!" to a much more reserved state, I think the realization has set in for him.
I'm looking forward to this fight and hope Lesnar doesn't get sloppy and caught in an arm lock or something too early.

A few other notes. Lesnar's hands are the largest for any combat sports athlete in the history of the state of Nevada. He needed 4XL gloves, and even they were slightly on the small size. The only fighter ever to wear 4XL gloves was South Korean giant Choi Hong-man, who is 7-3 and 367 pounds. While we didn't get the exact number, people were also stunned by Lesnar's reach, as it was longer than Tim Sylvia's. However, that probably won't play much of a part because boxing at range probably isn't in his strategy.

RIP Frank Mir :lol

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Tim Sylvia

* Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (-200)
* Tim Sylvia (+160)

* Over 2.5 rounds (-120)
* Under 2.5 rounds (-120)

Does this mean that neither of those round outcomes is favored? How is that possible? One of those has to happen.

Dude is super pasty

Fucking knife tattoo on your chest? WTF?

He's gonna demolish Mir though. It's not gonna be pretty.

For those who don't know, UFC puts up great websites for each ppv.

One of those has to happen but neither have to be favored.

Wow, I got violently sick at work last night, and the asshole made me stay the whole shift. Thats about the worst I've ever felt :( However they did give me tonight off to recover, so I actually get to watch this, woohoo. Sure Lesner have the body, but how is his jaw? I think a good unexpected shot to the face and he may go.

Excited for this one :D Fun to see if Lesnar lives up to the hype. Hopefully Timmah won't be his usual boring self, but if not I'll just use that fight to put me back to sleep since I'll get up at 3:55 AM to watch :lol

Surprisingly I'm a little more pumped for this than I thought I would be probably because I'm also a wrestling fan. I like Brock's shit talking so hopefully he can deliver tonight.

I was much more excited for the last show. Most of the fights tonight have the potential to be very boring. Hopefully that turns out not to be the case. Wouldnt be the first time a card that looked boring turned out great but I'm not getting my hope too high.

lol
there was in interview with Mir on sportsnet.. he says he doesnt expect brock to tap so has been training with wooden dowels to get used to snapping bones. :lol

Didn't Cameron want to have Spiderman fly?

Anyone know if any commerative lamps will be available?
Sylva bores the hell out of me but hopefully the last couple fights can balance out the overly weak card.

The card isn't much but Nate the Great vs Horn should be a real technicians match. I'd love to see it and Big Tim vs Big Nog. I think that fight'll go to decision with Big Tim winning
